Mia thought she had finally found stability when she accepted a position at Crest Corp.

She was wrong.

When the powerful and ruthless billionaire Adrian Morgan took control of the company, Mia found herself on the wrong side of his attention. Their first encounters were marked by tension, resentment, and a clash neither of them was willing to back down from.

Then Adrian made her an offer she could not easily refuse, a contract designed to serve his own purpose.

What began as a calculated arrangement soon became dangerously complicated. Beneath Adrian’s cold exterior to Mia was a man who was influenced by his childhood friend that was jealous of the way he related with her. Mia carries secrets about her family that she had never been allowed to understand.

As their boundaries began to blur, none of them were prepared for the feelings that develop between them.

But when buried truths resurfaced and revealed a connection neither saw coming. Mia and Adrian had to decide whether their contract was merely a business arrangement or the beginning of a love powerful enough to survive the secrets that brought them together.

Sometimes, the most dangerous contract is the one that makes you fall in love.

CHAPTER 1: DON'T SAY MILLER
Mia, the rules were simple. Don't look over your shoulder and forget the past. The second rule was the harder one. For years, she had lived by those two rules not because she wanted to but because it was mandatory to abide by them. The bus dropped her off in front of a tall glass building. Navy blue letters stretched across the front with a logo at the top. Crest Corp. She stared at the building for a moment before taking a deep breath. After years of cash jobs, temporary apartments, and a name that wasn't really hers, this was supposed to be another start. She tightened her grip on her handbag and walked through the glass doors. The lobby was cold, almost too cold and spotless. People dressed in expensive suits hurried across the polished floor, speaking quickly into their phones or to one another. She suddenly felt very aware of the simple blouse and skirt she had chosen for her first day. “Mia Gray,” she said confidently. The name still felt strange on her tongue but strange was better than dangerous. Her mum had told her that the former surname represented danger. The receptionist checked something on her screen before nodding. "You're right on time. Human Resources is expecting you, take the elevator to the fourth floor." "Thank you." She smiled politely and walked toward the elevator. As the doors closed behind her, she caught her reflection in the mirrored wall. "Don't mess this up," she muttered. The elevator doors opened on the fourth floor, and she stepped into the accounting department. Her supervisor, Mr. Bennett, greeted her with a firm handshake before introducing her to several members of the department. Eventually, he stopped beside a young woman working at one of the desks. "This is Clara,” he said. "She'll help you get settled. "The woman looked up from her computer. "New girl?" She laughed softly. “Yes" “What's your name” “Mia Gray,” she responded Clara smiled. "Don't worry. You'll survive." "Is that supposed to reassure me?" "Not really." She laughed again. It was a small moment, but it mattered more than she realized. It was the first time in a long time that she had laughed without forcing herself to. Clara walked with her to the cafeteria during lunchtime. Her first day wasn't particularly exciting because there were lots of forms to complete, company policies to read, passwords to memorize and enough paperwork to make her question whether she had accidentally applied for a job as a professional document signer. For the first time since leaving home, she felt as though she could build something new. This time around she wasn't going to live in her past, she was going to live for herself. Her small desk became her own little corner of the world. She kept a tiny plant beside her computer and a photograph tucked inside the top drawer. The photograph was of her and her dad. She rarely looked at it anymore. It wasn't because she didn't miss him but because she didn't know the mystery behind the person in the photograph. One afternoon, Clara appeared beside her desk. "Mia, lunch." Mia continued typing. "Give me five minutes." "You said that twenty minutes ago." "I got busy." Clara looked at the screen. "You've been staring at the same spreadsheet for at least ten minutes." "I was thinking." "About?" "Nothing." Clara narrowed her eyes. "You're terrible at lying." Mia smiled. "Go ahead, I'll meet you downstairs." Clara shook her head and walked away. As the months went by, Crest Corp became more than just a place where Mia came to work. She learnt which elevator stopped working whenever it rained, which meeting rooms were always occupied, and exactly how much Mr. Bennett hated late reports. She also learnt that Clara considered coffee a basic human necessity rather than a beverage. Little by little, she became familiar with everyone in the office, their names, their habits, their personalities, and even which employees mysteriously disappeared from their desks whenever the boss walked through the department. She began to understand the rhythm of the office. Mornings were usually filled with hurried footsteps, ringing phones, and employees arriving with cups of coffee in their hands. By midmorning, the entire department would settle into the quiet hum of computers and occasional conversations. Mia learnt who preferred working in silence and who couldn't go an hour without talking. She learned which meetings tended to run longer than expected. There were stressful days, of course. Deadlines piled up, reports came back for corrections, and sometimes she stayed long after most of the office had emptied. But somehow, she didn't mind as much as she thought she would. She had people to talk to now. Clara had become a constant presence in her life, the kind of friend who could turn an exhausting workday into something bearable with a single joke. Even Mr. Bennett, despite his strict nature, had begun to trust her with more responsibilities. Slowly, she stopped feeling like a new employee. And for the first time in years, she allowed herself to imagine that maybe this life could actually last. Her work was good, and she took her responsibilities seriously. She stayed late when necessary, submitted her reports on time, and rarely complained. Her efforts eventually paid off. She received a promotion. It wasn't a huge change, but to her, it meant something. She had worked for it, earned it, and most importantly, she had built it without anyone's help. A year and a half passed. Crest Corp continued to grow. New clients came in, new partnerships were formed, and the company seemed to be heading toward an even brighter future. Mia had begun to believe that perhaps she had finally left the past behind. She was wrong. One morning, she walked into the building and immediately sensed that something was different. Employees stood in small groups around the lobby and corridors, speaking in hushed voices. Their expressions were tense, and nobody seemed willing to explain what had happened. She spotted Clara near the elevators and walked toward her. “Clara, what's wrong? Why is everyone talking in groups?” Clara looked at her with an expression that immediately made Mia uneasy. “Haven't you heard?” Mia frowned. “Heard what?” “The company was sold this morning.” Mia stared at her. “Sold?” Clara nodded. “Apparently, the deal was finalized before most of us even arrived. Nobody seems to know who the new owner is yet.” Mia's stomach tightened. Just when she had finally begun to feel secure, everything had changed again. “Do you know who bought it?” Clara shook her head. “No. But we're supposed to find out soon.” The Conference Room At exactly ten o'clock, the conference room was packed. Employees filled nearly every seat. Low conversations filled the room as everyone waited impatiently for an explanation. For the first time, Mia realized there were still people working in the company whom she had never met. At the front of the room stood Crest Corp's director. He looked nervous. Somehow, that made everyone else even more nervous. “Good morning, everyone,” he began. A few employees responded quietly. “Most of you already know that Crest Corp has recently been acquired.” Whispers spread through the room. The director waited until everyone settled down before he continued. “The new owner has made it clear that he intends to personally oversee the transition.” Mia folded her arms. That didn't sound reassuring. Immediately, the conference room door opened He was tall and dressed in a dark suit that fitted him perfectly. He carried himself with the kind of confidence that suggested he was accustomed to being obeyed. He didn't smile. That alone seemed to make the employees even more nervous. The director stepped aside. “Everyone, I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Adrian Morgan.” Mia's attention sharpened. “Morgan?” she repeated silently. Something about the name made her chest tighten. She had spent three years making sure nobody connected Miller to Morgan. She couldn't remember where she had heard it, but something about the name stirred an old memory she couldn't quite reach. But the memory disappeared before she could even fix a piece. Adrian walked to the front of the room. “My name is Adrian Morgan.” His voice was calm and controlled. “I understand that a change in ownership can create uncertainty and I want to make one thing clear. I didn't acquire Crest Corp with the intention of destroying what had already been built.” He paused, his gaze moving across the room. “I acquired it because I believe it can become something much bigger.” Mia listened quietly. “There will be changes,” Adrian continued. “Some departments will be reorganized, and some policies will change. However, there are no immediate plans to lay off any staff.” A wave of relief moved through the room. Mia noticed the managing director's expression, however, he didn't look relieved at all. If anything, he looked as though he had just realized that his position might be the first thing to change. Mia glanced at Clara, who leaned toward her. "He looks terrifying." Mia smile "Very." As though he had heard them, Adrian's gaze shifted toward their side of the room and Mia straightened immediately. Their eyes met and for some reason it felt very awkward. Something strange passed through her which she couldn't explain. There was something familiar about his face, although she was certain she had never met him. The meeting continued, but she found herself paying more attention to him than she intended. She didn't know who Adrian Morgan really was but that name “ Morgan” always sent chills down her spine. Neither of them knew that the past had already found them.
