Chapter 1
The rain splattered in tiny drops on Larry's umbrella as he knelt by the grave and caressed the tombstone slowly. A writing “beloved mother” was carefully carved on it was the final and last thing that came to his mind. “Rest well, mom” He mumbled slowly and tiny drops of water from the rain settled in his mouth. It's been ten years but the memory will never be erased. Here he was standing in his general uniform and different medals attached to his chest but he felt he hadn't done enough. He had made himself into this for this moment and he still felt it was like when he was sixteen as he watched her die. The two guards escorts that followed him kept their eyes straight and he felt the empathy they had for him, immediately he noticed their standing posture and he hated himself for this. “Sir, well get the car immediately you're ready.” One of them announced. The rain was getting suddenly heavier but Larry wasn't eager to leave very soon. He lingered on the tombstone for a long time on his mother's grave and the bitter memory of ten years ago kept running in his head like it was yesterday. He reached out of his wet coat pocket and pulled out a crumpled piece of photograph, it was a younger version of his mother, his sister and him. His father died in the war as his mom had said but he never made any confirmation about that because he was young. He and his sister had been brought up singly by his mom. He later grew to know his father had a company to his name which was run by his mom after his death. She had been in charge of the company affairs and done incredibly well in management of the company, everyone commended her for that. His mother made sure as children they never lacked anything, to even feel that they never had a dad. She filled up the gap so perfectly well. But all was now a memory. He pressed his fingers on the picture slowly and an unnoticed tear drop came down from his wet face. “I'm coming for you Lira.” He said fumbling with the photo. He had spent ten years turning his grief into discipline and had hustled hard to get to the top. He had commanded men and killed men, he had buried enough enemies and had become a monster he never intended to become. But all that didn't matter now if he couldn't destroy the source of his grief and the cause of his pain. His uncle Damon. But to erase Damon wasn't an easy task, because he was a general himself and he could do that in an eye blink but Damon isn't an ordinary man. He commands generals. How did Damon get this powerful command of Generals? That was ten years ago. Larry could remember like he was just walking straight into a room. ******ten years ago**** Martha, his mom was driving, while Larry and his sister Lira sat at the back busy moving their heads to the tune “happy holidays” playing on the radio. Larry was sixteen then while his sister was eight. They were exhilarated and anxious because they're going to spend their Christmas at Grandma's. Mother even teased the kids with the way they moved their heads as she watched from the rear view mirror which got them laughing. That ended in an instant, something unexpected happened. A truck came out of nowhere and smashed their car. For the next few minutes the car rolled and everything shattered, glasses, rubbles and everything came down on them. Then it stopped just as it had started. Everything became blank. Then Larry woke up and realized he was stuck then he heard his mother's voice. “Larry” His mother's scream came from outside the wreck. He never knew if she had been thrown out of the car, or she crawled out, all he knew was that he heard her voice. “Larry, baby, I need you to take my hands, Lira….” He could remember he was in severe pain as his mom tried to drag him out and also pulled his sister out at the same time with blood running down her temple and her hands were shaking. Then an unexpected voice came through the entire place. Larry had thought it was an ambulance or someone that would help them, but it turned out to be his uncle. “Well, this is unfortunate” Damon came out of the dark with his hands in his pocket and didn't even take a second look at the horrible sight. “Damon please, help us….My son…he's stuck.” Martha cried out with a desperate voice. “I will only help you, once you sign.” Damon said and pulled a paper out of his coat pocket, it was already prepared and waiting like he had been holding it with him and waiting for this exact moment. From the rubble, Larry watched his Mom gasp with horror and confusion written all over her face. “With Damon, so this is all you're doing….” “What if I did it, you have no use inheriting the legacy our father built, your husband doesn't have the full right to do that after he died, the company needs to be run by men not by a woman and her children.” He blurted out with rage in his voice. “You know you never deserved to be the heir, you were once given the chance and you gambled away with the money now, now you're asking for what doesn't belong to you.” Martha replied. “It's my family business and it belongs to me, now sign this and your children leave, you refuse and I leave you all here to die.” He said and crouched down to her level with a gentle and monstrous gaze. “Never! This company has my husband's name on it and it belongs to my son in the future, I would rather die than let you have it.” Martha said with a solid and determined expression even as blood ran down her face she never broke “Then so be it .” Damon replied and brought out a pistol towards her head and shot her within the blink of an eye. The gunshot was louder than Larry had expected and it echoed in his head even as he was stuck under the car rubble he felt more pain. Damon adjusted and tucked the g*n away then stared at the wreck like he was looking at a mess and found Lira. She was crying and covered in dirt and blood and couldn't just bear the sight of her mother being shot dead. Then he immediately found Larry under the car. “You are going to grow up and thank me for this someday, how can a company be wasted on a boy who cries in a wreckage.” Immediately he dragged Lira by the wrist and took her with him. Lira screamed at the top of her voice for her mother but it was of no use. Larry never got the chance to scream her name back, he remained silent and bore the grief of his mother's death with him and he cried in silence and pain. It was minutes later before the ambulance came but the deed had been done, it was already late. And that was how his story changed entirely. ********** Sir a hand tapped him in his back and he blinked back to the graveyard, his mother's tombstone and back into the rain, ana back into a body that was now built into something stronger. “Sir everything is okay.” The guard asked. “Yes I'm fine.” “We need to get out of here sir, the rain is getting heavier.” The second guard announced. As they approached the car, Larry made his final decision, he won't stop till he gets justice for his mom and save his sister.
