Cecilia Henry walked into the casino with her chin lifted and her pearls perfectly aligned, as if she hadn’t pawned half her jewelry two months ago. Beside her, Vivienne Langford floated in on a cloud of perfume and privilege, waving at the staff like she owned the place. “Cecilia, darling, I haven’t been here in ages,” Vivienne said, linking arms with her. “Let’s have some fun.” Fun. Cecilia forced a smile. “Of course.” She wasn’t here for fun— she was here for her car. The casino had repossessed it after she failed to pay her credit line. She had come today hoping—praying—that the owner might reconsider, or at least let her negotiate. But Vivienne didn’t know any of that. Vivienne thought Cecilia was still the wealthy, untouchable Henry matriarch and she intended to keep it that way
