CHAPTER 1- CAUGHT IN BED
VANEA’S POV
I hurried down the hall, my heart beating in my chest from excitement and an overwhelming sense of joy. The sound of my sea-green satin dress drowned away the clamors of the people downstairs preparing for the wedding of the century; between Vanea Reis, the heiress to the Reis family, and Theo Bowen, the son of Duke Bowen.
My parents were neither Dukes, Lords, or Princesses; but we were one of the prominent and leading families in the Holy Aliese Empire founded by our Queen and First Emperor Vashti XI of Aliese. The Segots were known for their brute military strength and holy aura; they make the best knights in the empire and are known to be born blind. I hurriedly climbed the stairs heading upstairs. "Slow down, Meeka (Sweet)," Aunt Millicent said, but I didn't listen to her. Seeing Theo and informing him of this good news was far more important. I got to my room where I had left him; the door was closed. I stared at the vermillion box in my hand, breathing heavily as excitement coursed through my veins, arteries, you name it.
I pushed the door open, walking in. "Hey Theo, guess what? I got us a—"
I paused, stunned at the sight before me. The ring box in my hand fell on the wooden floor in a loud thud. My pupils dilated; my pulse spiked. My heart was dancing to an unfamiliar rhythm. "Theo? How—"
