I snap my head in their direction.
I stand, walking over I give Ruby a hug.
"Hello love." I whisper in her ear and she just hugs me back harder.
"I heard you were back bu-" she was interrupted by my niece and nephews.
"Auntie beks!" A chorus of voices scream. With a soft smile, I pull back from Ruby and hug Beth's children after saying hi to them they all runoff. Some getting ice cream. I give Annie a hug.
"We haven't seen each other for a couple of hours and I already miss you." She whispers in my ear and I pull away from her.
"Rebekah-" beth tries to hug me but I step away from her with a flinch.
I sit next to Rio and he puts his arm over my shoulder, Beth sighs.
He looks up at her. "What's up? You miss me?" He asks her and the three girls sit down on my other side.
"No." Beth says cautiously.
He smiles in amusement. "So, crazy thing, turns out we have a mutual friend." He says taking out his phone passing it over to me. He motions for me to show them. I do. It shows a white guy who looks creepy yet he looks like he's in a rush.
"That's your homie right?" He asks.
"No, he's not my homie. I don't know why everybody keeps..." Annie says but Rio interrupts her.
"He's talking to the feds now. Which could be bad for all of us. So, yeah, I'm gonna need you to take care of him." He finishes.
"That's insane." Beth says and I scoff quietly.
"Is it?why?" He asks her.
"Because we don't do that." Beth says.
"Yeah, that's not what we do." Ruby says and I give her a look to shut the hell up. But Annie starts talking instead.
"Besides don't you have anyone who's a little more experienced in that particular arena?" She asks him.
"Sure but that's not on him that's on you." Rio says as a little boy runs up with a football or soccer ball called by Americans.
"Daddy." He calls.
"Rio leans forward and gives him his attention.
"What's up pup?" He asks.
"You said five minutes." The boy says.
"Your right. No, I did. I did. Hey, what's the thing I always tell you when you make a big mess?" Rio asks him and I give the boy a soft smile as he looks at me.
He gives me a smile back with a wave. Then he answers.
"That I need to clean it up."
"That you got to clean it up." Rio says looking over to the girls. Beth looks at him like he's crazy.
"All right, come on. No more grown-up talk." He says picking the boy up over his shoulder. He takes my hand and pulls me up looking back at beth he says one last thing.
"That's for you." As we walk to a field rio puts his kid down.
He leans down to meet his height. "Marcus this is Rebekah she's my girlfriend." He tells him and I raise an eyebrow. "Rebekah this is Marcus, my son." He tells me and I squat down to Marcus's height.
"Hello Marcus, it's lovely to meet you." I tell him and he smiles big.
"I like your voice it sounds pretty." He tells me and I smile big.
"Thank you." I tell him.
"Are you gonna play with me and daddy?" He asks and I stand up straight. Rio follows after.
"I could but I've got to warn you. When I was in high school I played soccer." I say as I grab onto Rio's arm to steady myself as I pull off my heal boots.
"Oh look at you taking your heels off." He says mocking me.
I give him a playful glare. As I stand up I grab the ball out of Marcus's arms and start to kick it around. I do a bunch of tricks I learned with it and Marcus laughs.
After a while, I Drive off home and go to bed.
