Chapter 8

864 Words
Liana wakes up to see that the world is upside down. She was hanging upside down from the tree branch she had slept on the previous night. She rights herself and turn around to find Jake Sleeping on the branch beside hers. It was late into the morning already. When they left their park the day before, Jake shifted and Liana climbed on him, with their meagre load. She smiled as she remembered how glorious it felt, as they sped through the night. Still delirious with sleep, she settled her makeshift backpack pillow and was about to lie back down, when she saw the bushes from afar off, move. "Jake, Jake wake up." She said alarmingly. Jake got up yawning. Liana pointed out the still moving bushes to him and all signs of sleepiness on him quickly waned. "Do you think its someone from our pack coming to get us?" Liana asked. Jake sniffed the air and said it didn't smell like any of their pack members were nearby. The bushes were still moving and getting closer. Jake concentrated all his senses and said "Its a wolf, or wolves, and they are not from our pack." Even as he said this, the bushes cleared and a lone black wolf came through. From the lithe and elegant appearance, the wolf was clearly female. Liana was about to say something when Jake signalled her to be silent. Three other wolves, all a deep shade of brown, came through from different sides. These were all males and somehow Liana thought they didn't look right. This was clear when they approached menacingly on the first wolf and attacked. It was an unfair fight with three against one. Liana merely felt a cool rush of air to see that Jake had shifted to Join the fight. His own copper brown fur stood in contrast to the lone wolf's black. It was now two to three and Liana couldn't help but mourn the fact that it would have been even if only she could shift. The fight was still going on well and strong for the enemy. Liana didn't know any of the three attacking wolves, but they were against Jake and so, they were the enemies. She silently whimpered when one of the enemy wolves bit into Jake's wolf shoulder blade. She looked around but it didn't seem like there was anything she could do. Jake was a great fighter but these wolves were strong and outnumbered him and his partner. She thought desperately on how to help. Then she remembered. She took out her second favourite weapon -- a dagger from her bag and made a target of the wolf she deemed the strongest from among the three. When her aim was clear, she struck and the dagger got the wolf on the side. A loud wail brought the fight to an end as the two other wolves retreated in the wake of the their leader who was already making his way out the clearing, with the dagger still stuck to his side. At this, the first lone wolf collapsed on the ground in complete tiredness. Jake looked up on the tree at Liana. He looked at the tired wolf lying on the ground, then started to shift. Liana looked away. She did not want to see his nakedness. She scrambled for his backpack, threw it down and waited a few minutes, only looking down when she was sure Jake was already dressed. Jake was dressed. Liana grabbed a hold of her backpack and began the climb down. She and Jake were used to climbing and sleeping on trees, during Jake's night patrol trainings with their father. Liana walked over to Jake who was now in a squat beside the wolf still on the ground. "Is she okay?" She asked Jake. "Yeah, just really exhausted. I think she already had a spar with them, before she got here." They remained there like that for a few more minutes before the wolf stood up and shifted to a very, naked beautiful girl. The a young girl was probably about Liana's age. With golden blonde hair and pretty green eyes and very shapely body, she was truly gorgeous and Liana saw the apparent lust in Jake's eyes, which made her very uncomfortable. But shifters were comfortable with each other in their own skins, literally. Liana reached out for her backpack, took out some clothes and handed it over to the girl, who accepted them with an appreciative nod. She got dressed and Jake handed her a bottle of water he fished out from his own backpack. The girl drank all of it and with her energy seemingly revived, thanked them and asked who they were and why they helped her. "I'm Jake, this is my sister Liana, and...you looked like you needed the help." "Thank you." The girl said again. "So.... do you know who the bad guys were?" Jake asked her. "No I don't." She replied frowning. "What's your name?" Jake asked again. "I'm Glenda." "Where are you from?" Jake asked still "I'm from Red Moon Pack." A pause. "I'm the daughter of the Alpha of Red Moon pack."
