PART ONE
PROLOGUE The cool evening breeze turned chilly and the inhabitants of Crystal moon pack promptly shut their doors and windows as they settled in for the night quickly approaching. Everyone but one little girl seemed to care for the impending storm. She sat calmly on the front steps of the brown house that was her home. The little girl loved the rain. She loved its icy cold drops as they landed on her body. She loved the sound the raindrops made when they landed on the pebble stones beside the beach. They sounded so musical that she loved to listen to them. She occupied herself looking over the meadow at the trees and flowers as she waited patiently for the rain to fall. Finally the first drops landed on her nose. She leaped up excitedly and walked a little over to the left, where a brown woven cane chair resided on the wall. She bent down, looked under the chair and carried out a little green bowl. Just as she got up and wiped the dirt off her knees, someone called her name, from within the brown house. "Liana, where are you? " "Over here, dad" The door opened and a man came outside to the porch. His jet black hair was a stark contrast to Liana's almost white hair. And so were his blue eyes to her grey ones. "What are you doing out here in the cold? Come on inside." "But dad I have to listen to them" "To what?" The rain had now started falling in earnest. "To the rain hitting the pebbles." "What pebbles?" "The pebbles from the beach, we don't have any here, so I brought them. See?" She thrust out the little green bowl which was filled with white grainy pebbles, for her father to see. Bilan looked at down at the bowl his seven year old daughter was presenting to him. "Alright, so what are you going to do with them?" "I'm going to put them out in the rain and listen to the raindrops fall on them." Bilan looked outside at the rain which had now grown quite heavy. "Well, alright but be real quick, or you'll get a cold." "Yes dad! Thank you, thank you" Liana said excitedly as she ran outside, placed the bowl strategically and ran back inside. "Come here, let me clean you up." Bilan said to his daughter. Liana moved over dutifully to her father, who took hold of the hem of his jacket and proceeded to wipe the rain water off her face and arms. He then moved over to the cane chair, sat down on it and placed Liana on his lap. They sat down quietly for all of ten seconds when Liana jumped up excitedly and said to her father, "Can you hear them father, can you?" "What?" "The pebble music" "No child, I don't." "What! But it's so loud and beautiful." Liana said sighing expressively. Bilan did his best at listening but heard nothing still. "Are you sure you......." his sentence ended midway as at that time, the door opened and Eulena his wife, came outside. She was a tall slender woman with brown hair and equally brown eyes. "What are you two doing out here? Jake and I have waiting for you inside, dinner is set." "Mum I was.. " "Why's your shirt wet? Were you playing out in the rain?" "No mum." "Come on, let's go inside" Liana's mother took hold of her arm, and together they walked towards the door. "You too Bilan, dinner's set." Eulena threw back at her husband as she closed the door.
