Chapter 17

Liana was given a room at the end of the hall on the second floor, Jake was to stay downstairs with the other men. Liana sat on the bed holding up the candle the cook had left with her. She looked at the room. It was very nicely furnished with a comfortable looking handwoven couch, which was overlaid with soft linen stuffed with feathers, a wardrobe, a desk and chair which doubled as the dressing table. The wood they were made of was glossy and probably smooth to the touch, Liana imagined. She hadn't the strength to get up and actually feel them. But the floor was also smooth and cool. This could ascertain as she had walked right on it. The windows had bright cheery, yellow curtains which matched the sheets on the big bed. Liana garnered up strength and went over to the window. She wanted to see the view. There, outside, illuminated by the moonlight, she saw him again. The very male version of Glenda that got her pulse racing. When she first saw him at the borders, she was struck at how good looking he was. If she had been informed that Glenda had a brother who looks a lot like her, she would have disagreed, on the grounds that the soft blooming facial structure of Glenda was one no male could pull off. But she would have been wrong. Very wrong. Because Sin wore the looks all too well to show, that Glenda was the copy. She noticed also that he had a proud and arrogant bearing about him, which of course became clear when she learnt he was the son of the Alpha King. This made him the Alpha Prince. As the Alpha Prince, he was the next in line as the Alpha king. Sinclair. That was his name. But as the cook who she'd asked for the information had warned her, he doesn't appreciate being called by the name. Except for his father, everyone else called him Sin. Even the Gamma and his female. Liana had then wanted to ask of the Luna. But she did not want to come across as nosy. So she decided to put off the question. For the moment. This was only her fist day here. She would find out, soon enough. She would also find out why Sinclair, much preferred to be called Sin, and she knew just the right way to do that. Currently, Sin stood outside on the field overlooking the men who were getting ready to go for patrol. Oberon stood at his side. She smiled. They were a funny pair. At the stream, Liana had felt a strange sort of comfort and affiliation with him. While she had been there talking to him, she had not felt even a cause to fear. Her very good intuition which she had cultivated as another coping mechanism for living amongst Shifters, was all very mellow around Oberon, someone she just met. She concluded he was a good person. Maybe it was because he had weird colour of hair and eyes like she does. She smiled. Oberon was talking with Sin and Liana watched, entranced by how Sin's hands moved gracefully as he gesticulated. She held her breathe willing him to look up at her. As if he had heard her, Sin looked up just then and Liana released a huff of breath. She stared straight back at him, and resolved not to be the first to look away. His blue haired friend said something to Sin, and finally, he looked away. Liana sighed and moved away from the window. She looked round again at the room. The sudden realisation that this is where she'll be for some indefinite time made her remember the pain from the past days. She slid to the floor, brought up her knees to her chin and cried. She mourned the home she had lost, the parents she lost, and maybe even the ones she never knew. * * * * Sin knew he was supposed to be taking the direction to his safe house, but his feet found him on the path to the Pack house instead, and he wasn't fighting it. He was just going to see how the men were doing. It was true! They'll be just about going for patrol soon. Between the way from the stream to the Pack house, Oberon left him. He was having somewhat of a field day from his newly discovered powers. When Sin got to the Pack house, he saw that the men were already outside. He decided to stand where he was, some metres away to watch them. He didn't need to go up to them. They knew what to do. Soon after, he regretted his decision when Oberon comes to stand beside him. "Ugh! Can't I have some peace and not have your blue hair mar my vision whichever way I turn?" Sin said to Oberon. "Oh come on! You love my company." "I don't. In fact, why don't we put it to the test right now?" "What do you mean?" "Move over to the other end of the field Oberon" Sin said pointing his hands to the far end of the field. "Give me some space." "Tsk, you're insufferable." Sin looked to the sky as if looking for some sort of help. As his eyes made their way back down, they landed on certain gray ones and stayed there. Liana. Sin mentally called her name. She was standing by the window of one of the rooms on the second floor and she was looking right at him, unfazed. Just like she had at the border today. Sin couldn't place what made her so bold. But he would admit, he was floored by it. Throughout dinner, before she left the table, he had observed her. He wondered, if anybody else noticed her sudden discomfort when Jake mentioned her sickness. Why was she not comfortable? Maybe it was contagious and she didn't want anybody finding out. She did not look at all like her brother too. Were they really siblings? But then, why would they lie? Was Glenda in on it with them? Was that the missing puzzle to the story of her a*******n? "You know its rude to stare for such a long time." Oberon said from behind him. "And What's your business with that?" "Oh my business, is to make sure you find your mate, so you can quit looking at other females like that." Sin sighed. "Leave the looking to me." Oberon says jokingly. "As a good friend of yours, I'll strongly advice that you stick with your celibate life. What with your hair and eyes, you'll probably end up scaring all the girls." "Really? Maybe I should try it out with the new girl. After all, she has crazy hair colour and eyes like me." "Her hair's not crazy and eyes are a good shade of grey." "Oh! Is that right?." Oberon teased. Deflated, Sin turns to leave. "And where are you going now?" Oberon asks after his back. "To the safe house." Sin replied without looking back. "To get some quiet or some girl?" Sin chose not to answer that as yet without turning around, he flips Oberon 'the finger'. This time Oberon actually laughs out loud.
