"I woke with a gasp, the metallic taste of my own blood still lingering in my lungs.

In my last life, my husband—the underboss who poisoned my father to seize power—pulled my security detail so he could take his mistress shopping, leaving our four-year-old son to die in an alley.

When I opened my eyes on the morning fate was set to repeat itself, the obedient mob wife was gone.

In her place stood the true daughter of a Don, armed with my father's hidden ledger in one hand and a loaded pistol in the other.

I had one mission: protect my son, expose the viper at my husband's side, and reduce his empire to ashes.

But salvation arrived wearing a far darker crown.

Because the most dangerous man in the underworld was coming for everything my husband had betrayed—including me."

Chapter 1: Rebirth & Safety Protocol
The smell of blood was still thick in Vittoria’s lungs. Coppery, warm, and endlessly suffocating. She gasped, her eyes snapping open as her body shot up from the mattress. Her hands violently clawed at her own chest, expecting to find the gaping hole where her heart had shattered, expecting to feel the slick, crimson tide of her son’s blood on her fingers. Matteo. A breathless sob tore from her throat as she frantically looked around. The room was bathed in the soft, golden hue of early morning sunlight filtering through the heavy silk drapes. This wasn't the cold, grimy pavement of the harbor. This wasn't the alleyway where the gunfire had echoed like the drums of hell. This was her bedroom in the Romano estate. The opulent cage where she had spent the last five years of her life playing the dutiful wife. Vittoria threw off the velvet duvet, her bare feet hitting the cold marble floor. She ignored the trembling in her legs as she rushed across the hallway to the adjoining room. She threw the door open, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. There, tucked under a blanket patterned with cartoon sports cars, was Matteo. Her four-year-old son. His chest rose and fell in a steady, peaceful rhythm. He was whole. He was unharmed. Vittoria collapsed to her knees beside his bed, burying her face in the edge of his mattress to stifle the agonizing sob that wracked her body. She reached out with trembling hands, gently stroking his soft, dark curls. The warmth of his skin sent a jolt of electricity through her. He’s alive. I’m alive. The memories of the past life crashed into her mind like a devastating tidal wave. It had been this exact day. Marcello, her husband and the current Underboss of the syndicate, had walked into her room and claimed he needed to reassign their personal security detail for a "high-level negotiation." Like a fool, Vittoria had believed him. She had taken Matteo out for a simple walk in the city, thinking the lingering shadows of her father's empire still protected her. But there was no negotiation. Marcello had pulled the guards so he could take his mistress, Camilla, shopping for a diamond ring in the city's most exclusive boutique. Camilla—the sweet, innocent civilian who was actually a viper, an assassin from a rival family planted to destroy them from the inside. And because the guards were gone, a rival cartel had ambushed them. A stray bullet. A scream. Matteo’s tiny body going limp in her arms. Vittoria’s grief morphed into a cold, hardened rage. The sadness that had paralyzed her in her past life vanished, replaced by a dark, simmering fury that belonged to the daughter of a true Capo. For years, she had suppressed her nature, trying to be the perfect, peaceful wife Marcello demanded, believing that violence only bred more violence. But pacifism hadn't saved her son. It had only made them prey. She stood up, her posture straightening. The reflection in the mirror caught her eye—a pale, terrified woman in a silk nightgown. But her eyes... her eyes were no longer those of a victim. They were the eyes of a predator waking from a long slumber. I am Vittoria Rossi. Daughter of the late Don. And they will pay in blood. A knock on the door pulled her from her dark thoughts. "Vittoria?" It was him. Marcello. His voice was smooth, a velvet lie that had once wrapped her in false security. Vittoria took a deep breath, smoothing her features into a mask of calm indifference. She cracked the door open and stepped into the hallway, pulling the door shut behind her so he couldn't see Matteo. Marcello stood there, dressed in a sharp, tailored charcoal suit. He looked every bit the powerful Underboss—handsome, imposing, with a charismatic smile that hid the rot in his soul. "You're up early," he said, adjusting his cuffs. He didn't lean in to kiss her. He hadn't for months. "Matteo had a bad dream," she lied smoothly, her voice eerily calm. "What is it, Marcello?" He cleared his throat, not meeting her eyes. "Listen, I need to borrow your personal security detail today. Carlo and the boys. I have a highly sensitive sit-down with the Russians at the docks, and I need every capable gun I have." A sensitive sit-down. At Tiffany’s. Vittoria felt the bile rise in her throat, but she swallowed it down. In her past life, she had argued, begged him not to leave them unprotected. It had only annoyed him. "Of course," Vittoria said, her tone light and unquestioning. "Take them. The estate is secure enough. Matteo and I will just stay indoors today." Marcello blinked, clearly taken aback by her easy compliance. A flicker of suspicion crossed his face, but his arrogance quickly smothered it. "Good. That's a good girl. I'll be back late tonight. Don't wait up." He turned on his heel and walked away, the sound of his expensive leather shoes echoing down the marble hall. Vittoria watched him until he disappeared around the corner. Enjoy your time with the viper, Marcello. It will be your last. The moment the front gates of the estate closed behind his motorcade, Vittoria swung into action. She didn't have much time. Marcello's loyalists and Camilla's spies peppered the household staff. She needed to move before anyone realized what was happening. She walked over to the grand fireplace in her bedroom, her fingers trailing along the intricate stone carvings until she found the hidden seam. She pressed hard, and with a soft click, a small compartment popped open. Inside lay the remnants of her true legacy. A sleek, silver 9mm Beretta, fully loaded. A stack of burner phones. And a thick, black leather-bound ledger. Her father’s ledger. Her father hadn't died of a sudden heart attack, as Marcello had claimed. In her past life, just before she died, the truth had surfaced—Marcello had poisoned him, slowly, systematically, to seize power. But her father, ever the paranoid king, had left a contingency plan. A safety protocol meant only for her. She picked up the Beretta, the cold metal grounding her. She checked the magazine, the mechanical snick of the weapon a comforting rhythm. She pulled out one of the burner phones and dialed a number she hadn't called in five years. The line rang twice before a gruff, gravelly voice answered. "Who is this?" "The sky over Sicily is bleeding," Vittoria said softly, reciting the old code phrase. A long, heavy silence stretched over the line. Then, a sharp intake of breath. "Donna Vittoria. We thought... we thought you had forgotten us." "I was asleep, Dante. But I'm awake now," Vittoria replied, her voice turning to ice. "Activate the Omega Protocol. I need extraction in twenty minutes. Clean, quiet, and untraceable. Have the old guard ready." "Done. We are your shadows, Donna." Vittoria hung up and crushed the phone under the heel of her boot, tossing the pieces into the fireplace. She moved efficiently, packing only the essentials. A small duffel bag with cash, forged passports her father had prepared years ago, and a few sets of clothes. She didn't pack toys or pictures. The past was dead. She went into Matteo's room and gently shook him awake. "Mommy?" he mumbled, rubbing his sleepy eyes. "We're going on an adventure, my little lion," she whispered, dressing him quickly in warm, dark clothes. "A secret mission. But you have to be very, very quiet. Can you do that for me?" Matteo nodded solemnly, his big dark eyes wide with childish excitement. Vittoria slipped the Beretta into the waistband of her jeans, pulling a long coat over her frame to conceal it. She grabbed the duffel bag and took Matteo's hand. They didn't use the main stairs. Vittoria knew every secret passage and servant corridor in this house. They slipped through the walls like ghosts, avoiding the gaze of the maids and the remaining guards loyal to Marcello. When they reached the hidden service exit by the old wine cellar, a nondescript black van was already idling in the alleyway. Dante, a massive, scarred man who had been her father's most loyal enforcer, stood by the sliding door. When he saw Vittoria, he immediately dropped to one knee, bowing his head. "Donna." "Get us out of here, Dante," Vittoria ordered, her eyes scanning the perimeter. "Before the rats realize the cage is empty." Dante helped Matteo into the back seat, then closed the door firmly. Vittoria climbed into the front, her gaze fixed straight ahead. The van pulled out of the alley, blending seamlessly into the morning traffic. As they drove away from the opulent estate, Vittoria didn't look back. The woman who had lived there was dead. Only the Queen remained. Ten Hours Later. The heavy oak doors of the Romano estate slammed open, the sound echoing like a gunshot through the silent foyer. Marcello strode in, his tie loosened, a dark scowl marring his handsome face. He was angry. Camilla had been overly demanding today, and the supposed "surprise" attack by the rival cartel downtown had left his men scattered and paranoid. "Vittoria!" he barked, expecting his wife to scurry down the stairs, full of anxious questions about his day. Silence answered him. "Vittoria!" he shouted again, his voice echoing off the high ceilings. One of the housemaids scurried out from the kitchen, trembling. "S-Sir... the Madam... she is not here. We haven't seen her or the young master since this morning." Marcello froze. "What do you mean, she's not here? Where the hell are the guards?" "You... you took the guards, sir," the maid stammered. A cold sense of dread washed over Marcello. He shoved past the maid, taking the stairs two at a time. He burst into Vittoria's bedroom. It was immaculate. Too immaculate. He threw open the closet doors. Her expensive dresses were still there, her jewelry untouched on the vanity. But a subtle emptiness hung in the air. He rushed into Matteo's room. The bed was made. The boy was gone. Marcello's breathing grew heavy as he walked back into the master bedroom. His eyes landed on the grand fireplace. The hidden compartment—a secret he had spent years trying to find—was wide open, hanging off its hinges. It was completely empty. "No..." Marcello breathed, the reality of the situation crashing down on him. Vittoria hadn't just left. She had vanished. And she had taken his leverage—the boy—with her. His face twisted in a mask of pure, unadulterated rage. He reached under his jacket, drawing his customized Glock, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the handle. "Find her!" Marcello roared, his voice shaking the very foundations of the house. "Lock down the city! Find my wife, or I'll put a bullet in every single one of your heads!" The game had changed. And for the first time in his life, Marcello realized he wasn't the one playing it.
