Maddie's Revenge. Chapter 1 Maddie's Pov My name's Maddie Trueman, the lone child to my late parents. My life was like a tale of two chapters. The first chapter was filled with warmth and love. My mom, God rest her soul, was my guiding light until I turned 14. A year later, my dad remarried, bringing Mira my new step mom and her prickly daughter who's around my age into my life. While the typical drama of a stepfamily unfolded, I find myself missing my mother every single day. Seeing the way Mira pampers Jane didn't help things out. I questioned my father's rash decision to remarry within a year after mom ascended to heaven but, I wasn't selfish. I just wished he had chosen a better woman. I really don't know what he saw in the wicked witch of the west. Even though I wanted to hate him, I couldn't, he's all I had, especially during these trying times. Dad was my anchor, always assuring me that everything would be fine. And for a short period of time, I became used to the new living arrangements and things were slowly getting better. But, as they say, good things never last. On my sweet 16, life dealt a brutal blow. My dad collapsed, a heart attack claiming his soul. My sweet 16 would forever be etched as the day I lost everything. My stepmother, Mira, and stepsister, Jane, were more like wolves than kin. A week hadn't passed when Mira, proved to be the wicked queen of my story. She snatched most of my belongings, handing them over to Jane, while she gave me clothes that were nothing short of rags. That, however, was just the beginning of the nightmare they concocted for me. Infact, a nightmare would have been a hundred times better than what I went through - Life in Hell. The darkest chapter unfolded when they denied me my rightful share of my father's wealth. Instead of living the life I was meant for, I became a maid in my father's mansion, surrounded by the memories of a happier time. The walls echoed with my father's laughter, now replaced by the haunting silence of deceit and betrayal. *** 6 Years Later... The day started like any other – dusting off fancy antiques and polishing silver spoons. But that evening, I was bubbling with excitement because Jacob, my fiance and I had a date planned. He wasn't rolling in dough like my stepmom and sis preferred, but he treated me like a queen. As I was getting ready, Mira blocked my path in the hallway, her perfectly coiffed hair hiding the venomous thoughts brewing within. "Maddie, sugar, we need to talk," she drawled. "Spill it, Jane. I'm in a hurry," I snapped, already sensing trouble. "My my, is that a way to talk to your big sister? I really just wanted to talk." I responded with a stoic silence and a death glare. "Fine, I'll get to the point, no need to b***h around. I overheard some high-society ladies gossiping, sweetie. Seems like your Jacob isn't up to our standards, financially speaking," she said, her eyes narrowing. As if on cue, the wicked witch of the west, Mira chimed in, her voice dripping with honeyed malice. "Maddie, honey, love ain't paying the bills. You need someone who can give you the world, not just sweet nothings. That's what your father would have wanted." "Is that so? I'll keep that in mind, now if you'll excuse me, I'm done with my daily chores and I have a date." I brushed off their comments, determined to enjoy my date. *** The restaurant was buzzing with life when Jacob and I arrived. We walked hand in hand as we approached our reserved table. "Jacob, you didn't have to go big with the date, I'm not even a fan of fancy outings." "Neither am I babe, but my woman deserves the princess treatment every now and then." He shared exciting news that he's finally saved enough for a house. I was ecstatic over the very thought of leaving that hell hole. We enjoyed ourselves the rest of the evening and Jacob dropped me home not before we agreed to meet tomorrow. The next day, reality hit like a freight train. "Why Maddie? Why would you do that to me?" Jacob held up a piece of paper to my face. "Explain," he said in a cold tone. The contents of the paper depicted a test result for fertility and my name was on it. It didn't take a second to know who would go their way to forge fake hospital papers accusing me of being barren. I stammered a bit before I could speak," Jacob, I know how it looks, but you have to believe me, that test is fake." "When I asked you if you wanted a child, you said no. I hoped i could convince you after marriage, now I understand why. You're barren. And you kept that from me." He paused, breathing excessively. I've never seen him so unhinged. His pride was shattered. "We've been together for 2 whole years, I was in a pitiful state before you came into my life, I had no one. Please, don't do this to us." I pleaded with all my might. The very thought of losing someone I loved again was eating at my heart. "I'm sorry, but It's over, I can't be with a barren woman, take care." My heart sank. Just like that, the one person I let into my life after so many years living in hell - abandoned me. I stood still on the street, unable to move, unable to think anything else but what I'll do to Jane. *** "Let go of me!" I was being held back by the real maids of the mansion on the orders of Mira. My fangs were set on Jane, I wanted nothing more than to smash her face in. Mira smirked, "Darling, I'm sure Jane was just looking out for you. You deserve someone who can give you a life of luxury." "You mean someone who can give you a life of luxury. I refuse to be a tool for you." "It's for the sake of the company, your father's company. Marry Mr. Greymond and our two companies will merge." "With you as the head and me living as the s*x tool of a 60 years old man! Why don't you marry your daughter then?" Jane, twirling a strand of her perfect hair, added, "Its obvious silly, I'll be getting married next summer. Face it, Maddie, we're just helping you upgrade." Anger surged through me, at this point I thanked the servants that kept me in check, because I would have definitely committed murder. "Upgrade? You've been trying to sabotage every chance I have at happiness!" Mira chuckled, "Well, darling, maybe you should've claimed your share of your daddy's wealth instead of playing maid in his mansion." "Why? Why me, I've never done anything wrong to you." "Yes, because you are born to suffer, cursed to be useless. Your destiny is to be our maid till you gets old and die. No body will ever marry a potential barren wife." That was the last straw. There's so much bullshit one can take and I have had enough! I've made up my mind. I was done being their pawn. The rage burning within me wasn't just about Jacob; it was about reclaiming my life, my dignity, and making them pay for every tear they forced me to shed. "I swear, I will pay you back a thousand fold for what you both put me through." Through the tears and heartache, I took a vow- To rise from the ashes of my shattered life. In their attempt to break me, they unwittingly unleashed a force they couldn't comprehend – the force of Vengeance. I will take my destiny into my hands, I will rewrite my story and reclaim what was rightfully mine. No matter what I have to do, or how low I stoop - I will bring them down to their knees.
