First Date..
Katherine sat awkwardly on a high stool at the mahogany bar. The tight pencil skirt she wore pressed her thighs together and made it difficult to get comfortable. Her chin rested on her hand as she bounced one stiletto pump off of her petite foot.
She absently stirred her martini that she had no intention of drinking and waited impatiently. This was the third date this week and was looking more and more likely to be the second one that did not show up.
Minutes turned to an hour and the young bright eyed bar tender approached. The cosy, high-end bar was growing packed with men and women in business attire seeking the bottom of a cup after a long week in the city.
"Did you not like the drink?" his voice startled Kathrine from her wallowing.
She smiled despite the clear pity on his face. "Oh no, it's fine. Just not meant to be drank alone I suppose." as soon as the words left her mouth she could see the young man become uncomfortable and she cringed.
He murmered some pleasantries and backed away to concentrate on wiping an already clean spot on the bar, presumably to avoid eye contact.
Katherine huffed, put a crisp note from her purse on the bar under her untouched drink, and hopped off her stool. Just as she was about to sweep her long blonde hair into a ponytail and put on the trainers in her bag, she heard a deep voice apologising and excusing himself as he moved through the crowd.
Suddenly panicking and inwardly cursing herself for agreeing to this date, she struggled back onto the bar stool intending to look relaxed in case her date had finally arrived.
Before she could even properly sit back down, her heart dropped. She had seen photos of her date and this was not him. Instead an exceptionally tall, imposing man stood before her. He was older than her, maybe 10 to 15 years older, with a shaved head and a beard with a serious peppering of grey. His tanned skin looked so smooth and Kathrine licked her lips a little as he leant forward to speak to the barman whilst bearing his muacular forearms below the rolled cuffs of his crisp white shirt.
He turned his head briefly towards her giving her a glimpse of his large, rich, chocolate coloured eyes. She let her eyes roam down his exquisite body and took a moment to appreciate his expensive looking suit and shoes. A watch on his thick wrist that she recognised as Paiget, worth thousands, glinted in the light.
She slipped the rest of the way off of her stool with a small squeak. As she looked back up she could see the serious looking faced stranger had quirked the side of his lips into a small smile causing her to blush deeply.
Now sweating slightly and feeling idiotic, Kathrine grabbed her bag up and made a beeline for the door.
"Wait!" She felt a large warm hand envelope her wrist and she looked at her arm as a sensation of fear and excitement washed through her. On the other end of the hand was the handsome stranger holding her little pink sparkly bag with rainbows on it.
Without thinking she snatched it back and gave a look of horror before finding composure and thanking him.
