"The rogues entered at Bill's patrol spot! Nobody should have died that night! He should have sent out the call sooner!"
"That's it? That's all you got? Because he didn't call for help sooner, he's in league with the rogues who killed him and hurt his son?!"
"Rogues are known to turn on the other! They aren't in control of their wolf!"
"Why would he allow his son to be in danger then?"
"Leo wasn't supposed to be there, he admitted that he went to surprise Bill!?"
"Uh huh. And did Leo also mention that his father smiled and hugged him like usual? No devoted father would be so careless." I shook my head. Damn, we attracted a crowd again. "I appreciate you lost people that night and needed to blame someone. I've lost people to in my lifetime. But that doesn't give you or anyone else the right to blame someone who quite obviously didn't have anything to do with the attack."
"You're wrong! It was all him!"
"Was the leader ever killed or captured?"
"No, why?"
"Good, then there's a chance he's alive. If we can find him, then we can clear all of this up."
"We don't know what he looks like." He looked smug. Why would he look smug?
I was so concentrated on him that I didn't realize that I connected with him. Well his wolf. Interesting.
"Luna, I am Sargent." He bows his head.
"Sargent, I am glad to meet you. What does your human know that he is not sharing?"
"I'm sorry, Luna. I tried to stop him. He set Bill up, my human developed a liking for Marigold and wanted her for himself. Since Bill's death, he has forced himself on the she-wolf." I felt myself go down to my knees with heartbreak.
"Did he ever do anything to Leo?"
"He will beat the child often and verbally abuse both the woman and child."
I had tears running down my face, but the anger started to bubble.
Sargent never lifted his head to me. "Luna, I am ashamed of my human. I am sorry I could not stop him."
"I am not angry with you, I thank you for trying."
I let go of the connection, everyone was staring. Marian, Haze, James, and Jacob ran through the crowd and found me trying to stand while staring at Talan. He stepped back again. I have never been so angry.
"Tell them Talan, tell them what your wolf told me!" I scream at him, which causes him to take yet another step back.
"I don't know what you mean!"
"Tell them you are the traitor, not Bill! Tell them you wanted his mate and made a deal with the rogues to kill Bill! Tell them you've...you've..." I couldn't, I stop. My anger has not diminished, all I see is red.
I feel Haze come closer and grab my hand. "Keep going."
"Talon, you tell your pack how you disgraced the mating bond, and how you beat on a child."
Talon had gone white as a sheet and kept inching back. I wondered if I could make that barrier again. Instantly there was a ring around Talon that kept him from moving. The others in the crowd began growling at him, Haze walked over, but didn't touch him.
"You are charged with treason, the penalty is death! Tomorrow morning, you will be executed! Guards, take him away!" He comes back to me and hugs me. Having him holding me close helps me get a handle on my anger.
"I'd like to see Marigold, please." He nodded and we walked into the pack house. The laundry area was at the very back of the first floor. When we walked into the large room, everyone stopped to look at us.
"Marigold, could we speak to you for a minute?"
She nodded at me and led us outside through a door in the room. "Is Leo alright?"
I reassure her that her son is fine. "Marigold, had another run in with Talan. Somehow I connected to his wolf who told me everything." She starts to cry. "He won't hurt you or Leo ever again, I promise."
I go to her and hug her. She whispers, "Thank you."
Haze speaks next, "Ma'am, as your alpha I should have investigated further. I am sorry for how the pack has treated you and your son. I am also sorry that I let everyone treat you and your son so badly. It's inexcusable."
I'm so proud of him. We let Marigold go back to work, and I try to step closer to Haze.
But again, my legs give out on me and I fall. Haze picks me up and rushes through the laundry area to the hospital where Stacy leads us to what I'm thinking of as my room. My eyes begin to close and I drift off to sleep.
