Meeting An Angel
Knock! knock! Knock!
I sigh and put my book down. No one else is home so I get up and go answer the door. As I get closer, it's like I feel a presence. It doesn't make me uncomfortable though, still that's weird right? I peek through a small c***k in the door to see who was knocking and the most beautiful woman I had ever seen is on the other side. Her waist length silver hair and chocolate brown eyes catch my attention first. Her features are captivating.
"Can I help you?" I ask.
She smiles, "My name is Marian. I am here to help you." She moves to come into the house and I am feeling conflicted. Who is she? Why is she here? How can she help me? This is weird. "Do not worry young one, I am an angel."
I still feel conflicted, but I don't have any red flags other than this is beyond strange. Who knew angels were actually real?! Was she even serious. Maybe she is crazy. I lead her to the living room and motion for her to sit though. She chooses a seat in a recliner across from my seat on the couch.
My mind feels like it's going a million miles a second. There is something about her, something inside me saying she is telling the truth. Like I said before, she is beautiful. She must be in her sixties...or at least in human years I would put her in that age range. Who knows how angel age works??? Her clothes look a bit old fashioned. She's wearing a blue floral print skirt with a matching plain blue shirt. She has her hair pinned up on the sides with some curls pulled out to frame her face, but the rest hanging down to her back.
I come back to the present when she starts talking. "You are not safe here, someone is after you and will use your family against you. To buy us some time we will fake your death, hopefully the being after you will also be tricked. I will take you somewhere safe and we will hide you-."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa!! Slow down! Who could be after me? I don't recall pissing anyone off, at least not to that extent. And you want me to die?! To the world at least... What about my family and my boyfriend? This is crazy, you're crazy! Please leave." I just can't process what is going on right now. Who comes into someone's home and tells them they have to fake die!
Marian just smiles and comes to put her hand on my cheek. Instantly I feel calmer and stare wide eyed at her. She sits next to me and speaks again. "Helen, I realize this is a lot for you to take in, and in a very short amount of time. I know you sense safety with me, rely on your senses. I will be able to explain more to you later, but we have to move quickly. Your family will be home relatively soon and you need to be gone. If you do this, they will be safe. At least for a while longer. I hope you will be able to show them one day that you aren't dead, but for now this is what has to be done."
"Who is after me? What makes them so dangerous?"
"Now is not the time. I promise to explain to you later. You must trust me. Look inside yourself, your sense of me is not wrong."
She was right on the fact that my sense is she is safe, but this is still crazy. "How will you kill me?" I use air quotes when I say the kill me part.
"I'm going to make a gas line burst." She patted my shoulder then stood and pulled me with her. "Come, we have to go. I am going to shield us so no one will ever no I was here or that you left the house." She picks me up in her arms and we go out the street. She puts me in the front seat of her red corvette. Yes corvette!! I know nothing about cars, but I knew this was from the nineteen-nineties! My mouth gaped open and I looked at Marian. She gave me a mischievous smile and said, "I know people."
She got in the drivers seat and glanced at me. It was time. She snapped her fingers and if I didn't know better I would have thought we were in a war zone. The blast was so loud I had to cover my ears. I see the house I grew up in explode into thousands of pieces. I feel so guilty. What will my family do? They will think I'm dead. I know how I would feel if one of them died. We pull away and Marion hands me a handkerchief. I hadn't realized I was crying. "What do we do now?" I look over to her.
She reached over and patted my leg to comfort me. "I'm taking you to a place where you'll be safe. There will also be others around to help protect you. They don't know that we are coming so it'll be a surprise." She laughed a little with that mischievous look again.
I smiled a little and started singing along to the radio. After driving for a few hours, I realize I am still in my pajamas. I had forgotten to grab a jacket or something before we left. "Do you have a cover or something that I can wear when we get there? To cover up a little better?"
She looks over like she didn't even realize I wasn't exactly dressed to be around people. She laughed a little, "Where were going it won't matter, but yes I do if that's more comfortable for you."
I didn't understand, "Yes, it would make me more comfortable."
"Listen there is something I should warn you about before we get there." She paused with that mischief look of hers, and I began to get nervous. "You ever met a werewolf?"
