I sit in my seat shocked, then I laugh a little thinking that Marian is just kidding. Werewolves? Come on. But when I glance over I realize she is completely serious. I take a deep breath, okay.... "Werewolves are real?"
Marion laughs, "Yes, young one. They certainly are! So expect to see a few wolves."
Werewolves are real. Wow. "Will you tell me about them?"
She thought for a minute, "Well, they obviously can change into their wolf form but they tend to spend most of their time in human form. Their wolf is like another part of themselves. Separate, but two halves of a whole. Werewolves also have mates, they have another person out there made just for them. Mates are drawn to each other as soon as they meet and they mate for life. Once bonded, one cannot live without the other. I think those are the main differences between werewolves and humans."
"And you're taking me to these people?"
"Yes. So just like wolves in the wild live in packs, the same is true for werewolves. The alpha wolf is in charge of keeping the pack safe and he has his second and third in command to help him. along with their mates when they find each other. The second in command is called a beta, and the third in command is called a gamma. The rest of the pack members live in their own homes around the pack house on the same property. Some live in the pack house depending on their rank and pack job. They all work together to keep each other safe. You'll learn more when you get there and become part of their pack."
Wait, I'm joining their pack? "I'm still so confused about all of this. How are you and these werewolves going to protect me? You haven't even told me who exactly is after me."
"I understand this is a lot for you to take in, but please take it one step at a time. The first step is done, we have you away from immediate danger and are hidden from the being who is after you. Next is to get you settled into a life where you are hidden. You are more powerful that you know." She stops and glances at me. "Be patient, we are still several hours away from the pack. Why don't you try to sleep, I know your hurting."
How does she know that? I lift up an eyebrow at her and she just smiles. She reaches behind me and hands me a pillow and blanket. I smile at her and try to get comfortable. I start to think about my family and what they must be going through right now. I really hope this was worth it. I soon drift off and don't wake until Marian wakes me.
She puts her hand on my head and I thinks gives me a tad bit of energy. I slowly sit up and look around. We're in the woods somewhere, but I don't see anyone around. "We are here, I spoke with patrol and they gave us permission to enter. I wanted to wake you before we get up to where the community is."
"Thank you." She nods and and then starts to drive again. It's another forty-five minutes before we start to see houses and other people. Marion doesn't stop though and we keep driving until we get to a huge building. "This must be the pack house?"
Marian parks and smiles, "Yes, young one." She gets out and I start to open my door. It's a bit warm, but I keep the blanket around me. Marion picks me up again in her arms and we start walking to the front door. All the sudden my heart starts beating a bit faster and I feel another presence. I mean on top of the pack members. This one is different than them and Marian, it's not a threat to me but I have no idea what it is. I feel it getting closer and I look to the front door to see several men come out, but one catches my eye. He looks straight at me and meets us half way. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Marian looking between us and then laughing a little bit. "Alpha, it is good to see you again."
I'm still not quite sure what is going on so I don't say anything. The alpha moves his eyes to Marian with a confused look on his face. "What is going on?"
She smiles and definitely has a gleam in her eye. "I am here for your help in protecting Helen." She motions to me with her head. "Young one, this is Alpha Haze."
The alpha looks back to me and I meet his eyes. I'm curious about him. He is gorgeous! His hair is short and black, curling around his ears a bit. Eyes green like the forest. He's tall, definitely over six feet. He is wearing business casual, so we must have caught him in the middle of work. "It is a pleasure to meet you." He gently picks up my hand and my head jerks from his gaze to our hands. There were sparks! What does that mean? Marian didn't prepare me for this!
I hear Marian say we should go inside and the alpha lets my hand go. I think I frown a little because it feels like I lost something. As if when he touched me I was whole. The next thing I know Alpha Haze was taking me from Marian. Interesting, now there were sparks in every place we were touching. "Be gentle." Marian warns him before smiling at me and patting my cheek. We then proceed inside. I look up to Alpha Haze and he smiles down at me and snuggles me in a little more. I give him a little smile too and lay my head on his shoulder. I do not feel uncomfortable with him, I have a sense that he is good...and something else.
We go up some flights of stairs and go into what I assume is Alpha Haze's office. He brings me to a couch and sets me down while placing the blanket to cover me. I smile a thank you and am surprised when he sits down next to me. Two other men are with us and Marian, but no one introduces themselves. After everyone sits, he looks to Marian, "Please explain what is going on." His voice is commanding, telling us all what he expects.
Marian raises an eyebrow at him and then winks at me. "Early this morning I discovered why exactly the demon, Marco, has been making more trouble lately." She pauses for a minute and looks at me. "Young one, you have a unique gift that not many in this world have been granted. You will not be able to have full use of it until you turn twenty one next month, but it has been slowly awakening since you were a child. You will be able to see angels and demons."
I just stare at her, I know I get feelings at certain times. Some give me comfort, some feel threatening. I want to tell her she's wrong, this is a mistake, but considering how this day has gone it doesn't seem that strange. I take a deep breath and close my eyes for a second to think, "Okay, so I can sort of sense angles and demons now, but when I turn twenty one I will be able to see them? But I see you now, obviously everyone sees you. I don't understand. And how would I be a threat to this demon?"
I'm getting tired, this day has been so much. Alpha Haze reaches over and puts his arm around my shoulders. It feels good, which is strange. I usually can't stand to be touched, especially by men. Even my boyfriend, or ex boyfriend now, couldn't get this close to me. "Young one, it is because he is your mate. That is why you can stand him being close to you." I look to her and I raise my eyebrows to her. She just laughs at me! "You and he can discuss that later, let's finish this conversation first. One thing at a time, remember?" I nod in response. "Good. Now back to topic, yes you will be able to actually see angels and demons. Angels and demons have the ability to influence humans, werewolves, and other creatures. If you can see the demons influencing someone, you have the choice to step in and try to help the person make the right choice or call on an angel to help the situation. You are a threat to all demons, but it seems specifically to Marco. Probably because he is making plans and doesn't want you interfering in them."
Alpha Haze pulls me closer, he has been quiet. I look at him and the other two men, they all look worried. I turn back to Marian, "So what do we do now? What is our next step?"
"The next step is for you to rest, visit the pack doctor, and spend time with your mate. This situation is a bit different because of your health. If you were able I would start training with you immediately, but this is different. One step at a time." She waits for me to nod and turns to Alpha Haze, she looks like she is expecting questions from him.
I snuggle in a bit deeper and begin to feel my eyes close. It's been a long day.
