CHAPTER TWO.
The Tension. At the Dinning table was quiet. And suffocating.
"Freya", Mrs Dams called out, her hands set on the distinguished meal in her hands, chewing it down her throat.
"Yes, mum," Freya answered. Her gaze landed on her mum, as she sat at the right edge of the dining table. She leaned down, her hands slid to the faint mysterious scar on her left foot.
"You know the Fated Bound Ceremony is today." Mrs Dams said.
"I'm not going," Freya said without hesitation.
Isabella and Alexander burst into huge laughter.
"Who would want to be fated to blubber weight?" Isabella spat out. "Look how ugly she is, Mom. She should sit at home and not tarnish our family's name."
"What did you just say, Isabella?" Freya sneered; her hands trembled as her body boiled in fury. Although she knew what Isabella said was true, she wouldn't let her get away with bullying her.
"I said, who would want a weak wolf like you?" Isabella repeated those words. Loud and clear. Freya could hear them.
"Hey, runt, you think the moon goddess would find a fated bound for you? Damn, you are ugly." Alexander's voice cut through, right after Isabella's.
Before the two could finish. A slap landed across their faces. Mom had slapped them.
Mom was the one who didn't make me feel less of myself. Well, she thought they were actually right.
She had been attending the FATED BOUND CEREMONY for five years. And she hadn't found her mate. Well. She was heavy and what else, runt.
Unlike Isabella, who was a beta and had been fated to Ronan, one of the most powerful Alphas. Alexander was also an Alpha who had his own pack.
Freya was the only one in the town who had less power, curvy. She was also the shame of their family, has isabella would say. She wasn't a match for either of them. Though she got a marriage proposal from Kalean, the most ruthless alpha, the most powerful alpha in town.
Everyone claimed he killed his mate and would drink their blood, use their bones for rituals to make him more powerful.
So she rejected him. Because she wasn't that desperate to find a mate.
Alexander's eyes were on Freya; his gaze locked on her, boiling with rage.
Isabella stood up from the dining table, stomped right in front of Freya, and before Freya could say a word, she slapped her across the face.
Freya didn't hesitate; she stormed up and tore a hot slap across the face.
"Stop! " Mr Dams' voice cut through from the dining table; he had been quiet the whole time.
"How dare you two disrupt my peace? Get the hell out of here." Mr Dams' voice tore through.
Freya stormed off immediately to her room and fell flat on her bed, tears streaming down her face.
She was tired of Alexander and Isabella. Treating her like trash, like she didn't belong here.
Her phone by the bedside beeped.
She raised her face, pale and tears still streaming down her eyes. grabbed it and turned off the Alarm. The one she had set for THE FATED BOUND CEREMONY. She wasn't going.
Her wolf kept screaming.
"You have to go, Freya. I know the Moon goddess is preparing something special for you."
"You have been saying this for five years, Lyra." Freya's voice cracked as she rumbled around the bed.
What if you were to, Thorne? " Lyra said.
Freya fell silent. Like a name she wanted to listen to, was thrown down like a bomb. She always attended the fated bound ceremony because of him. She had a huge crush on him since sixteen in high school. He was the stepbrother of Kalean.
" You use this every time, Lyra. I won't fall for this. She said, covering herself up with the blanket, blushing underneath. Her weakest vital was Thorne. And Lyra knew it.
In a swift move, she stormed out of her bed.
She had to also show Isabella that she wasn't just a runt.
A few minutes later, Freya is impeccable dressed in a black flared gown. With a glittering earring to go with it. Her soft-painted lips glittered more as she applied her lip gloss.
She was what they defined as beauty.
AT THE FATED BOUND CEREMONY.
Freya stood in the midst of the crowd; her black flare gown caught the dim light of the moonlight. He had arrived early, waiting patiently for Thorne.
Suddenly the oak doors flew open.
The crowd fell silent.
Thorne and Kalean stepped in.
"Thorne." The ladies in the crowd kept whispering. They sighed; he was breathtaking- six feet of lean muscle, striking blue eyes that matched Freya's own and a soft, devastating smile.
Beside him walked Kalean. The temperature in the room dropped. Nobody dared look at him twice. He was a towering shadow, muscular, lethal, with dark, coily hair and a set of piercing grey eyes. His eyebrows were carved perfectly. He swept the room like a predator scanning a cage. He was terrifyingly handsome. But he radiated unadulterated danger.
Freya kept her eyes glued to Thorne.
His lips were sexy; she often imagined her lips brushing against them.
Attention, all wolves, we are ready for the fated bound ceremony. The High priestess announced, ringing a sacred silver bell.
Above them, the full moon reached its zenith. A mystical luminescent bob began to roll across the ballroom floor, carrying the will of the Moon goddess. The air grew thick with a suffocating, heavy magic.
"Today, wolves. Alphas, betas, Omegas, you shall be bound to your life mate. Each divine light will be released on every wolf bound to another. This bond will be marked by a subtle scent. They can only detect it, pulling them together. The High priestess announced.
Freya clutched her fingers tight. Her heart was racing in utmost fear.
She hoped that Thorne would be her fated bound. Her eyes shut, feeling the sound of her heart racing and making a light wish.
One by one, the pillar of divine light began to rain down from the glass ceiling, striking pairs of wolves. The scent of cedar and ocean breeze filled the air as mates recognized each other, some wrapping themselves in joyful embrace, while others rejected their mate.
Minutes ticked by. The light beam began to slow down. The hall was clearing out.
Freya opened her eyes; the space around her was empty. No light touched her.
You are a fool, Freya. What were you expecting?" She whispered, tears streaming down her face. Her teeth were cutting through her lips.
Turning on her heels, she prepared to walk out of the hall. But as she stood at the threshold, a massive, crimson, divine light crashed down from heaven. Her breath cut instantly.
And suddenly, a scent held her breath; it held an overwhelming, dominant, suppressive aroma of cedar and burnt ozone. Her eyes slammed shut; It was intense it drove her straight to her knees. Unable to move.
"Freya, what's happening?" Lyra called, worried.
And in the second... the suffocating scent stopped. She slid her eyes open. In front of her stood Throne; her breath stopped.
His gaze locked on her.
"Mate" Those words ripped her heart apart.
