Chapter 38

I'm so pissed with Isaac a while back, that guy was so possessive when it comes to Anika. He is so on guard to the point that she even gave 3 bodyguards to her walking and following her around the hospital, which is so absurd, as if Anika was a three years old girl who needs nanny everywhere she goes. I sigh and  shook my head thinking those things, I should erase them both on my thoughts. 

"Thinking too much?" Anika suddenly appears in front of my table, or she was there for a while already without me noticing her. 

"What?" I said in irritation. 

O c'mon your displacing your anger towards Isaac to Anika, I said in my thoughts which makes me sigh again. 

"Is there a problem?" She asked again, worries flash her eyes, her green eyes are like ocean full of wonders. 

I know Anika since school days because we attended the same school, I was popular at school back then but she was way too popular, first because of her age and background plus her great intelligence, she was like a grand prize no one can afford. She was never interested in male or relationship before and after medicine days, after school, she became popular in the country for her great works and expertise, I know those because I was an avid fan of her, that's why I was surprised when she suddenly got out of the picture, no media, magazines or any news about her until one day my dad told me she was with Isaac. I keep asking myself if she was abducted or what but when she joined our hospital, she was completely fine and seems in deep love with that arrogant Isaac. Isaac's family has great relationship with my family but we know that we don't like each other, ever since, specially now that Anika is here in my hospital, as if I'm going to take Anika away from him, am I able to that? 

"Hey! Stephen" Anika snap her finger in front of my eyes that pulled me back to present. 

"Are you even listening?" She asked, now she's the one pissed, I honestly can't blame her.

"What were you saying again?" I said rubbing my head, this is embarrassing, I said to myself. 

"Are you okay? Because if not, I can discuss this some other time." She said holding into a CT scan images. 

"I'm just preoccupied but you can continue, go on" I said gesturing my hand for her to continue talking. 

"No, just take a rest, I will get back to you later." She said then turns her back to me and started walking. 

"I'm fine, you can --" I shouted but she just left and close the door, she didn't even let me finish talking. I rub my hair in irritation. 

I really need to pull myself together, I need to wash out those thoughts for me to focus on my work. 

I started my daily routine by checking my patients, I need to finish before my meeting at 10am. 

After a few rounds with my team, my phone started ringing, when I check it, it was my father, I know he will remind me of the meeting again. 

"Yes, I'm on my way." I said upon clicking the answer button. 

"Go to the emergency room at the VIP, bring Anika, ASAP" He shouted on the other line which means this is really urgent. He didn't even waited for my response, he hang up the phone. 

I run while dialing Anika's phone, the hospital alarms which means many casualties, I saw Anika picking up her phone but she put it immediately in her pocket when she saw me and run towards me. 

"What is happening? I felt unease" She said, but I grab her wrist and we started running towards the emergency room. There are also other doctors running after us. 

"How can you be at unease at this kind of situation, as a doctor you have no right to feel so." I said but actually I also feel uneasy, it seems something was wrong. 

"I'm actually not like this, this is the first time you know." I wanted to say I also feel the same but that will not benefit the both of us so I just keep quiet. 

As we enter the VIP emergency ward, a lot of bloody man wearing black suits was lying on the hospital bed, the other doctor's started checking them, I directly went to where my father is, Anika suddenly stop walking as we go near the last bed, I look at the man lying on the bed and it was no other than Isaac, the last man whom I expect to be at the hospital, taking a bath on his own blood. I look at Anika and she was just standing and dazed with the situation. I grab her wrist and pull her closer for us to check on Isaac. 

"Pass me the scanner" I said to her but she just stood there. 

I look at her and tears falling from her eyes. She can't help here, I can't focus on her being here so I asked the nurse in-front of me to call one the goons. 

The nurse came back with a guy whom I guessed one Isaac's men. 

"Take her out, she's no longer needed" As soon as I'm finish, they escorted her out of the ward still dazed. 

As soon as she left, we transfer Isaac to the operating room.

After an hour or couple, we can finally leave the room with a relief, the bullet was finally removed. The first person I wanted to see after the operation was Anika, so after cleaning, I will look for her, as soon as I open the door, Isaac's men rushed to me to asked for his condition. 

"How is he?" I tall tattooed man asked. 

"Where is Anika?" I replied with a question. 

"You better know your place doctor" He said trying to control his anger. 

"Mr. Carson is fine now, we will transfer him to his private room in a while, just follow the nurses once they will be out" My father answered them as he walks out of the room. 

I'm sure these men will not answer me so I just left them with my father, I still can feel the glare coming from behind, it seems like I started a war with them. Let's see where will this take me, I said to myself. 

I dialled Anika's number but it was out of coverage, so I went to the security control room to check her location, I found her at the rooftop. I waste no time so I walk run going to the rooftop, as soon as I reached the rooftop, a man who always follows Anika around whom I assumed Blake stop me from going outside. 

"You are now allowed to go near Anika" He stands in-front of me, blocking my way. 

"I'm the first person Anika wants to talk to as of now, I'm sure she wants to know what happened to Isaac" I said but still he stood there, all my words fell on deaf ears. 

"Your boss was alive, thanks to me" I said raising my hands. 

Now he was at ease. I know he will not step aside so I just walk passed through him. 

As I enter in the rooftop, Anika seems to be looking far, her back is the one facing me. She don't even notice I'm here. 

"He's now fine" I said to get her attention, she immediately looks at me, her eyes still in sadness. 

"How can I act like then when someone is in danger?" Tears suddenly fall from her eyes. 

"Why did I let myself be eaten by fear, Why?" She said while sobbing

"Specially now, he was the only person who stood by me, the only person whose willing to die just to make me safe." I don't know why, but next I knew, I'm hugging Anika, comforting her. 

I felt like I knew her pain, I just don't understand if the pain she felt was the same pain I feel right now. It was odd. 

Blake interrupts us by clearing his throat, he was a meter away from us, glaring at me like he wanted to punch me at that moment. 

"Jake might have been looking for us, we better go to boss's room now before they call the police." Anika wipe her tears while nodding like a kid. 

"Besides, you are not safe here" He added glaring at me, I know what he means. I can read between the lines. 

"I'll see you at his room." Anika said before she walks guarded by Blake. Blake shot glares at me before they go inside. 

I was left alone at the rooftop. I decided to stay for five more minutes, spare time to reflect. 

"What are you up to Stephen?" I utter to myself. 

It pinch my heart knowing Anika recognized that bastard Isaac as a man who can stood by her, whose willing to do anything for her. I can also stood by her through ups and downs, if I was given a chance. I can also take care of her. 

I suddenly shook my head with annoyance. 

"Stop it man, you can't fall for Anika, not again"
