Tomorrow came faster, than she expected with the late-night party and all, she felt the need to sleep more. But work, dragging herself out of bed, she went through her usual routine, shower, wear the clothes Lisa laid for her, have her usual skimpy breakfast which earns a disapproved look from her mom, who constantly tell her to eat more. And rush to work, driving past the snail pace driving limit her Dad gave to beat time. With all her checkup routine done for all her patients, she sat in her office doing all sorts of various work. Her head doctor piled all her files and asked for the report later today. But with the look of things, she finds it hard to think she might be through with this today, she might forgo the report today. A dull pressing ache nabbed the sides of her head causing a strain on her eyes, her break was due but she didn't find it necessary with the workload present on her desk. And what was the need for a break if your friends are not around? Neither George nor Melisa came today, they were both off, only her was present. It was no wonder, why she felt she was sent to the kingdom of boredom, and paperwork, her friends were starting to indispensable to her. Without them, her life suddenly seems dull. Deciding she needs pain medication to relieve her of the headaches, to make her focus more on her work. She stood up from the chair, not appreciating the fact her bum felt flattened and numb. How long has she been sitting for? Her legs eat up the stride to the door, and she turned the knob open leaving her office. Taking a pain packet from the staff's medicine cabinet, she uncapped the water bottle in her hands and took a huge gulp to swallow the drug. Leaving the staff's lounge area, she walked out into the public aisle deciding to go out for some lunch and fresh air. All she smelt all day was disinfectants, and the smell of hospitals, it was tolerable at first but now it was sickening. She walked towards the waiting room for patients, just a little more steps and she would be out in the open sky. Coming closer to the exit door, she heard the commotion coming from outside. It also drew the staff and patient attention. Gabriela was curious as to what was causing this commotion, her legs walked towards the scene of the noise. A crowd of people stood around the pavement preventing her from seeing what was happening. That didn't deter, she pushed her body through the slimy bodies of people, squeezing through the little spaces until she reaches the scene. It wasn't a group of men fighting, as she imagined in her head. It also wasn't an emergency. What she saw was a group of men in a black suit and little black glasses. They looked like bodyguards, forming a perfect horizontal line. A man came to the front speaking to a nurse. This wasn't a good reason for such disturbance in a hospital. A group of black men that looked like a member of a gang asking for enquires. "I tell you nobody is answering Ms. Vincent here," the nurse replied, that statement alone caught her attention. She was Vincent but everyone knew her as Gabriela, Ms. Gabriela not Vincent. "She is a doctor here, she works here." "I told you several times, there is nobody here that fits your description or name. Could please leave our premises, you causing a scene. Leave or I call the police," the nurse warned, already pissed off. True she was a new doctor, she only started last year, but it was surprising she wasn't well known by other staff's, even her last name is written there, Vincent. Yet they don't know who Gabriela Vincent is. She pushed her way forward, it was scary these men wanted something to do with her. Why are they asking for her? Has she done something wrong? She eyed them thoroughly and came forward to the main leader of the Black Men. She good in front of him, her hands at akimbo. "What do you want here?" She asked, he quickly turned his focus to her ignoring the nurse standing there. Maybe he felt that she can help. "What do you want?" She asked once more irked by his silence. "We are here for Ms. Gabriela Vincent." Now he calls her by her first name, there were several widened stares and murmurs. "I am Gabriela," she replied. "Your father asks for your presence, he asked us to lead you to his office." Okay! This was a very good moment to yell out in frustration Her dad sent a group of mean-looking men to tell her this. He needs to see her. Scaring the hospital staff and patients. What happens to the use of a phone? Just dial and call. She turned towards the curious crowd growing by the moment, "This is a personal issue, I would speak to these men, for now, you all should get back to your work, duties... Erm, whatever you were doing before all of these." Despite their protest and mild gossiping, they dissipated like steam in the air, one by one. Till the hospital premises was empty and scanty. "Go back to my father, and tell him I am going nowhere, I am still on my shift, and I'm working." "He ordered us to not leave your side till you come with us." "I am not even sure you guys are from him, you might be a terrorist or... uh...Bad men, w-who wants to harm me." She knows how lame this sounds, but she was desperate to get these men off her tail, Why does father want to see her so bad? The silence of these men angered her even further, they were so bent on taking her with them. "Let's do one thing? I would go back into my office, call my Dad and let's see if he sent you." She gave him a brief awkward smile, and went back slowly, far enough. She turned her steps forward, and walked into the hospital, halfway to her office, she noticed a man, in black clothes escorting her. He was one of the bodyguards, maybe his boss sent him because he doesn't trust her. His presence was scaring some of the patients in this aisle, but telling him to go away from the hospital would only waste her time and another round of argument. She should get over this issue with her Dad for clarification. She entered her office, asking the man to stay outside, he seemed to have trusted her and did as she said. Hurriedly she rushed to her bag and brought out her phone, dialing her father's mobile no. He picked, "Dad, Did you send some men in black outfits to come to get me?" "Yes, those men are your bodyguards," But she doesn't have bodyguards. "Dad, what are you talking about? I don't have any bodyguards, we agreed I don't need extra security," she argued. "That doesn't mean I don't send security to follow you, discreetly." That was very shocking but revealing news, she can't believe her Dad went out of their initial agreement to keep the guards away. All her life, she lived in the oblivion of these weird men escorting her to places, "That is a breach of our former agreement." "There was no agreement sweetheart, I did that to make you happy, I do have rivals and I am quite rich. For goodness sake, you think you are invisible some people who you barely know are aware you are my daughter ." His voice was annoying like he was the Dad and she the Daughter. He keeps a rule over her head. "Why are they here, saying to ask them to take me to you," she asked heading straight to the point. "I need you, Gabby. You need to be here, there is something you need to know." "That can wait till I get back home, I am at work and seriously the paperwork is not favoring me." A loud sigh followed from his side of the line, "Not at home, You are needed here at the office, If you have ever trusted me, please come." His plea broke her, she doesn't want her Dad to beg her to get something done, but she was at the receiving end here. If her director finds out, she might be benched or worst suspended. Things her Dad makes her do, she slung her purse over her shoulders and straightened the simple loosed jumpsuit, which creased at its edges with her hands. She came out locking the door behind her, deciding to meet her Dad. She would just sneak out, the director might not notice, then she would be back in a jiffy. Entering her car, she drove off to her Dad's company, looking at her rear mirror she noticed the black cars following. It probably belongs to the bodyguards. After a good twenty minutes, she parked, and hurriedly got down. Luckily the guards were with her, so she won't have to stop by the reception office requesting she wants to see her Dad. In the elevator, crammed with seven mean-looking men. She can't help but wonder what her Dad suddenly wants to tell her that seems so important. He couldn't tell her over the phone, he insisted on her presence. She hopes she doesn't lose her job over this. The elevator door slid open, she got out, she stood in front of her father's office, a bit hesitant to push the door open, one of the guards helped her. He pushed it open, and what she saw next stunned. A group of men, were in the office, scanning their faces she noticed they were rather serious, one man caught her attention he looked extremely angered. She looked more around the room, surprised to see her Dad in a sour mood, sitting while Mr. Damien stood over him, he noticed her and smiled in her direction. Her Dad seemed to be in a sour mood, "Dad!" She called him, and he came out from his deep reverie, surprised at her presence. "Gabriela!" He said, she can't help but notice the relief in his voice, he stood up from his seat and took a few strides to where she stood. Taking hold of her hands, he took her into his office and gestured for the guards to close the door. Taking a few glances at them, she caught a man looking at her with curiosity. He looked young and different from the other men. She can't deny the fact he was extremely good-looking. He stood a good height of six feet and some inches, his hair was mainly matted black, with some brown sprinkled on his upper hair. He dressed... Well, like someone who has some affluence, she could sense an air of arrogance around him, his brown eyes caught her as very harsh in their expression, like he expected something from someone. Maybe hurt or betrayal, if not, she can't get why someone would look at someone who he hardly knows with so much distaste. She could sense the air of arrogance around him, removing her gaze from him, she focused herself on her Dad. "Dad, who are these people, and why did you ask me to come here?" She asked visibly confused. "Gabriela, do you trust me?" He asked. Her Dad has never asked her such a question. Of course, she does. She trusts him with her life, and she loves him too. "Yes!" Her voice came out as a whisper. With that question answered he took her to come with you, he gave her his office pen. What would she do with a pen? She looked at her Dad once more confused, "Dad please tell me what is going on?" It came out as a plea. It was a plea. She was brought here in a rush, leaving her duties at the hospital, and was at risk of losing her job, yet her Dad leaves everything unexplained to her. "What you are signing here, is a contract." Mr. Damien explained. She doesn't want his explanation, she expected her Dad to say something, but he looks away from her a bit disappointed. Why won't her Dad look at her and say something? "I am not part of these companies, I have no right to sign these documents. I am a doctor by profession not a businesswoman," she explained. "We know Gabriela, this contract here is the legal binding of these two companies together since I and your father have partnered a lot during the years. We have decided to enjoin the company together." Is that what her father was so afraid of saying to her, she smiled at Mr. Damien, " That is great, Why then do my father look sullen? This is great news, isn't it father?" She smiled, " But I don't get why you need my signature, Dad is the owner of the company, not me?" Though the situation has been lightened by Mr. Damien's explanation, she still doesn't understand why her signature was needed. Mr. Damien was prompted to explain once more to her, but he was stopped by her Dad. "I would do it myself," he said his tone low and dangerous, she has never seen her Dad speak to Mr. Damien so rudely. Something was not right? Why is her Dad not happy, the company was reaching greater heights? He should be happy. "Gabriela, " he started placing his hands on her shoulder like he would explaining something grave to her. "When you sign that, it not only enjoins the two companies together but it also... Joins you and Nicholas together in marriage." It sounded like a bombshell was thrown at her because she could not hear or see anything. She was simply in shock.
