Seven-thoughts of her

1880 Words
Nicholas Damien strolled to his leather office chair and sat on it. He drank his coffee from the mug his PA brought to him and relaxed further into his seat. He took in the aroma from his freshly brewed coffee and sipped again. Its warm content was gulped down as it landed on his tongue. He took his office phone and called in his secretary for the reports. After a minute, he heard a knock, with his command she got in, dropping the files on his desk, she stood a bit away from it, awaiting his next order. He took one of the files his secretary brought and flipped it open reading its contents, his nose flared up a bit and he threw her an annoyed look," These files are not complete and up to date," he snarled. 'These are the recent financial report sir, I checked them myself," she said, her voice a bit shaky "This is s**t' he yelled she jumped in fear. "I pay for a job you have no experience for." He threw the file catalogue and the paper got scattered everywhere. 'I... I checked it myself sir, the company financial reports and all the budgets plan are all recorded there," she gulped down the fear stuck on her throat. Mr Damien has a reputation of sacking someone for the slightest mistakes, she hoped her mistake wasn't that grave, she cross-checked all the files before she came to him. "I want the current financial reports in ten minutes or you are fired." He motioned her to leave and pressed his finger pads on his temples. She bent down and hurriedly picked the files and shuffled them in an unorganized manner, straightening herself, she hastened in her steps and walked briskly out of the office. He could only hear her drowning clicking the sound of her cheap footwear on the polished wood as she was in a haste to leave his office. It had been an hour since he drowned himself in work his arm muscles flexing as his long slender fingers typed flawlessly on the keyboard. He reviewed the financial report and matched them with the one he was preparing, it was perfect. He stopped a moment to prevent a neck cramp and walked over to the window, to view the city beneath him through the huge glass windows. He thought slightly about his father. He was disgusted by his actions, a crook would always remain a crook. His father had a way of surprising him each day, he smirked dryly at the marriage contract, it was silly. One Mr Vincent company was in perfect shape, he worked with them a couple of times and they had more investors than his father's company. Enjoining your company is when you probably don't have any other choice or alternative to solve the issues of funding in your company, and you desperately need an investor. Mr Vincent doesn't seem too happy with the agreement, if there is anything he looked like it was pissed off. There is a secret between the two, that pushed Me. Vincent to go into such agreement with his father, or simply he doesn't want to invite his daughter to all that mess, so he agreed to do his Dad's bidding. Over his years he has built quite a reputation, as Nicholas Damien the ruthless, heart breaker. The playboy, the arrogant businessman. That wasn't a good characteristic for a husband, and Mr Vincent knew just that. His daughter caught his attention. He was surprised to see a bi-racial lady representing herself as his daughter, Mr Vincent and his wife are of different races, and she? She had the most beautiful lush curly hair, her golden skin would cause a man to have his mind infiltrated by thoughts of her. They were so golden they shimmered in the sun and radiated off her skin, what spoiled her whole look was her conservative nature, who wore sandals these days? He had dated women, high-class women to know that an influential woman won't go for such a simple look. Her hair was tied in a clean loose bun, she put hardly any makeup just some transparent lip gloss that made his gaze settle at her soft plump lips. On her ears, she wore a cheap bud earring for accessories. She was the daughter of Vincent, yet she could pass off as an average teacher in a public school, overall she looked extremely nerdy. No fashion sense, no style, but she wasn't shy, he could feel her confidence radiating off her, she made it clear with her feisty eyes, she is no girl to mess with. Probably a spoilt daddy's girl, she doesn't look like one, but his mind begs to disagree, she doesn't seem pressing and whiny, she is very independent, given that she has a job at this age. A doctor, he thought. Doctors often come across anyone as extremely intelligent, she looked intelligent, too smart with questions she kept asking. It is surprising the amount of interest he took upon her at their first meet, he continued thinking of her. What was her name? Gabriela. She doesn't look pleased with the contract, it was clear she wanted nothing to do with it. He recalled she refused to sign any of the papers presented to her, but after a little persuasion from her Dad, she came around. To him, the marriage of both of them doesn't register well with her. She seemed almost afraid of marriage. Well, that makes the two of them. Except for this time she was the perfect stepping stone of collecting his inheritance from his Dad, he was against the idea of marriage initially but after some thorough thinking. He convinced himself it was the best decision, he doesn't care which way, he has to go to get his inheritance, for now, heartbroken Gabriela seemed like the only way and he has to take it. His eyes met the cold stale coffee on the mug to the east of his work desk, he needs a distraction, but his mind kept going back to her. His contracted wife, what about her that seems to draw him in? A woman has never looked at him with those expressions. So disinterested. He was familiar with the type of looks the women he changed each week, had in their eyes when with him, they felt privileged, and content. But she?... She looked like she was cursed with the worst luck ever. His present girlfriend Elena would have loved the idea of a marriage with him if it was thrown to her. That reminds him, he has to tell Elena he is breaking up with her. A text would do, after that, he would block her number to cease her call that might come after his heart-shattering text. Not now, maybe later when he gets back home, now he needs to finish this work. He glanced back to his work desk. The stride he took ate up the ground as he drew the chair and sat down. As if on impulse, his incompetent secretary knocked and poked her head through the opening in the door. 'You have a visitor sir' her voice croaked a bit. His eyes never left the screen as he resumed his typing. 'I am busy send the person away' he ordered. "It is Mr Damien," she announced. His head snapped away from the laptop at the mention of his father's name. What does he want? He seethed, anger slowly building up in his veins. 'Let him in.' he adjusted himself and waited for his father to come in. The door came ajar and he laid his eyes on his father. He walked in confidently, as usual, his signature grin plastered on his thin lips. Always cunny. He wore a grey tux with his hair smothered with hair grease, it glistened under the light making his hair appear darker. He was still a good-looking man at his age, ladies both old and young were constantly throwing themselves at him. But after his mother's death, he abstained from any relationship of any type and kept to himself. But that act was not enough to cover up for his past sins, what he did to his mother, he pushed her to the wall constantly until she finally gave up on fighting him. They both gave up on him. Drawing a chair, he sat down ignoring Nicholas's glare, "What are you doing here?" He asked closing the file he is working on. His indifferent look irked him more, he cared less about his son's brusque tone. "Remember I am still the owner and CEO of this company do watch your tone, it doesn't bother me anyway." He stated, 'I told you, I would set you right. It was a great idea to convince Mr Vincent to let his daughter get married to you and yours truly actualized it." "Did you convince him or you threatened him?" Nicholas could not help but laugh inwardly at how flushed his father looked right now, he was a mimic of a ghost, his face pale. "Watch what you say, Nicholas, I made quite a sacrifice to get you these companies. Gabriela is the only child of the Vincent's. That girl is your key to your inheritance and my key to well-deserved retirement life. You are well aware of Vincent's wealth, he has different shares all over the business world. And all of that wealth goes to that girl, you should take her inheritance, once you get married to her ." "That's the main reason I got her enjoined with you. Also, I know you are bound to get burnt by her fiery nature if you don't tread carefully." Nicholas had a sarcastic expression on his face. "Don't try to underestimate her, I got her married to you because she would tame your wild ways." A large smirk stained his lips, his eyes flinting with pleasure. Tame? That is a pretty strong word to use, Nicholas thought. "Tame me?" He couldn't help the eyebrow raise. His father relaxed more into the chair, his smile maintained, "Do you doubt me?" "You seem to forget father, we are the same, the same blood flows through our veins. Surely I am using her to get what I deserve, what you robbed me off. Trying to tame me, won't do any good would it?" "What if I treat her the same way you treated mom?" Mr, Damien narrowed his gaze, his lip upturned in annoyance, "Remember, that girl is Mr Vincent's daughter, anything happens to her he is coming after your head." "Daddy's princess, huh?" He mocked, his lip curly with pleasure. Nicholas raised his wrist observing the golden wristwatch wrapped around his wrist, "So you finally admit you treated mother bad, tell me father do you enjoy the ladies you laid with behind her back. I am sure Gabriela wouldn't mind if I treat her in the same way." He paused, lost in his thoughts. "For one, she isn't mom, who made the mistake to fall for you." That was all Mr Damien could take, he got up straightening his sleeves. With one last glance, he walked out of the office. That left Nicholas purely satisfied.
