Seventeen-Pride from both sides

Gabriela tried to ignite her car again the sheen of sweat becoming more visible on her forehead. Hissing softly she stared at her wristwatch, she was running late, she came out of her car. She opened the bonnet and stared warily at it, the engine components staring her back in the face. She isn't a doctor for cars. Her SUV served her fine throughout her stay back at home so why should it start having problems now? When last had she taken it for maintenance? She could hardly remember that shouldn't be what bothered her now. How would she get to work? The stress of finding a cab and the probability of finding one is very unlikely. An Uber cab can work but she has no time for that now. Her clock hand on luck is anticlockwise today. She sighted Nicholas and Kelvin walking along together observing her for a second. It has been a while since she last saw Nicholas. Maybe a week or so, they had different jobs, she had shifts, morning and night. If she gets back from her shift in the morning, at night when coming back she only has Kelvin to greet her, the rest of the house already asleep. And her night shifts, he might have gone to work upon her arrival in the morning. Rachel informed her Kelvin was his personal security guard, it was no wonder he followed him everywhere he goes. She observed Nicholas for a second he wore a crisp purple shirt and a jacket. His hair looked damp and styled in his usual style. The sight of him made Gabriela throat way too dry for her liking, he was good-looking she gets it. He came to her, she pretended to concentrate on the task on her hand, one she has no expertise in. He stopped almost a little distance away and stared hard at her. He whispered something to Kelvin who nodded glancing in her way. A frown immediately etched on her face. What were they talking about? "Gabriela!" The sound of her name from his mouth was strange, almost alien. All she could think about was his voice wanting to annoy the daylights out of her. "Why is wrong with your car?" he asked. "My Car?" She feigned ignorance. "Yes," he replied rolling his mind eye at her behaviour. "Nothing...nothing just a few...erm adjustment would do. Nothing I can't handle." "You sure?" he asked again raising his brows, does he seriously want to help? It was weird if he wants to, maybe it was a charade to find a reason to argue with her later on. She liked her new territory with him, that way she doesn't seem too guarded about him, and collecting any form of help from him was detrimental to her stay in his house. Three hundred and fifty-five days more, and divorce, she anticipated. "Sure... Sure. I am fine." Ask for help. Do shut up, reprimanding her persisting mind. She would regret this later. Nodding he left her standing like a confused person, regretting her decision and replaying the consequences of her actions, like getting an earful from her director or getting benched. She went after him. "Nicholas! " she called. Eat your pride Gabby. He stopped but didn't turn to her. Checking his wristwatch was offensive to her, was he trying to tell her she was wasting his time? "Erm... Can I lend one of your cars?" she asked. Please say yes. "Why? Nothing is wrong with your car."he retorted. She was tongue-tied now. "The thing is that my car- car..." "Could you hasten up with what you are saying" he cut her up rudely? She gets it. She injured his pride so why not rub it at her face when he gets the chance to. "My car got bad this morning. And I am late for work?" "So?" Is he really going down this path? "I need one of your cars" "No, not lending" he started walking to his car with Kelvin opening the door for him. "Wait. Don't go, please.. please," she begged. He ignored her pouring his attention to his mobile phone, "The only help I can give you is to offer you a lift that's all." She frowned at his proposal. "No," she said firmly. "Suit yourself" He motioned Kelvin to start driving. Was he leaving her here? "Wait!!!" She yelled, picking up her purse from her car. Kelvin halted, the brakes screeching loudly just before the gate, Nicholas sighed loudly. "What?" his tone was sharp. "I accept the offer of a lift." "Apologize" he demanded. "What? Why?" her forehead creasing in annoyance. "You want a Lift?" "Yes" "Apologize, the world doesn't rotate around you Ms Gabriela, apologize or I leave you here stranded." She narrowed her eyes into a slit at his request, the last time she did that he refused her, leaving her with no option than to use a window as a door. "It doesn't deserve my apology, besides we would be even, the last time you didn't honour my apology." The tinted window slid upward till it closed, with the car resuming its move out of the gate. She waved her hand gesturing to the car to wait. "I am sorry," she apologized half yelling. Rolling his window down, "What?" "I am sorry, for being rude earlier." she gritted. He gestured for Kelvin to open the lock to the doors, she opens the door and got in. "That wasn't so hard was it? " a smirk strewed across his lip. She ignored him.
