Chapter 3. Not picky.

In a luxurious booth, everyone looked happy and had a smile on their face. The Withers and Bernards were having another dinner party again, and they were getting along well. Even Elina had a smile on her face. She then proposed a toast with an apology, with a glass of wine in her hand.

‘Mr. Withers, Mrs. Wither. I apologize for my reckless and rude behavior last time. I am deeply sorry about it.’

‘There, there, Elina. It is just a trivial thing. No need to apologize for that.’

Ted Withers laughed, he knew Carl Bernard would not give a way an opportunity like that.

‘Yes, Elina. Soon we will be families. How nice is that! I am looking forward to it!’ Said Mrs. Withers.

The fat boy was just smiling at her, and his eyes were glued to Elina. Elina smiled back at him, but she couldn’t help to feel sick when she looked at him.

‘Excuse me, but I need to use the bathroom.’ She put down the glass of wine, and walked out of the booth. She needed some fresh air in desperate.

In the booth right next to Elina’s, there were six of the younglings hanging out with booze on the table. They were having a good time. Four of them seemed like couples, and the rest of the two were playing with their cell phones laughing.

‘Hey yo, I just remember something. Check this out. Guess who I saw a minute ago?’

Chuck Hans was saying it like something big, but no one paid him any attention. So he had to keep running his mouth:’I saw Paul Withers, that moron. He is just right next to our booth.’

‘So? What is the big deal? A retard can have dinner in a hotel. They didn’t put a sign which says ‘no retards’.’ Jason Matthews didn’t raise his head from the phone, but he did respond to Chuck Hans.

‘Of course this is no big deal. I haven’t got to the point yet. Guess who else I saw? I saw Elina Bernard. I heard that she was there to meet the Withers. She is about to marry that retard. Man, I can’t believe she agreed to do that.’ Before Chuck even could finish his words, he successfully drew everyone’s attention.

Samuel Adler was still staring at his cell phone, but his screen was black. The air was frozen, and Chuck Hans realized that he might have said the wrong thing, so he shut his mouth.

‘Chuck, who is Elina Bernard that you were talking about?’ Chuck’s girl asked in curiosity.

‘Nothing. I person of no importance.’ Chuck Hans shook his head, and then he stood up again: ‘I need to take a look and see what is going on with this chef! We have been waiting for like forever. I am starving!’

As Chuck spoke, he took off and fled away. Samuel Adler put his cell phone away and spoke to Rania Layne:’I need to use the restroom.’ Then he left the room. Rania didn’t say anything, she was aware that the man was in a bad mood.

‘There is a bathroom in the booth right here.’ The girl was puzzled, she stared at Samuel Adler’s back.

It took Elina Bernard a while to pull herself together again. But when she walked out of the bathroom with her head low, she saw a pair of shining suede shoes. She looked up slowly, and she took a deep breath, when she saw the man who stood in her way.

‘I am just surprised by your taste, Ms. Bernard. I heard that you are about to marry a retard.’

Samuel Adler was staring her at a condescending way.

Elina Bernard felt like her heart got hammered, and there was a lot of pain. She took a deep breath, then she smiled to Samuel Adler with her head up.

‘It has nothing to do with you, Mr. Adler. Mind your own business.’

Samuel Adler dragged his face, and he was just like a volcano before an outbreak.

‘Sam, what are you doing here, I have been looking for you all day… Chuck said…’ Rania Layne held Samuel Adler by his arm, but she acted like she just spotted Elina, so she asked in surprise:’ Ms. Bernard, when did you get back? I thought you went abroad.’

‘I just got back a few days ago.’ Elina replied to her.

‘Let’s go, Rania. It is a waste of time to talk to a woman like that.’ Sam Adler got back to his senses again when Rania Layne showed up. He smiled gently and held Rania Layne into his arm. They turned around and left.

Elina stared at their back. Samuel Adler and Rania Layne just looked amazing together, they made a perfect couple. If Elina didn’t show up, they should had lived happily together.

Elina and Samuel Adler were just come from different world. But Elina saved Mrs. Adler by accident, and Mrs. Adler said that in a return for this huge favor, she was going to wed her single grandson to Elina.

Elina thought that the old lady was just making a joke to her. But she would never thought of the possibility that she would fall in love with Samuel Adler, the first moment she set eyes on him. She never believed fall in love at first sight.

Mrs. Adler was not making a joke. She was really planning on getting her grandson and the lovely girl together. And Elina also wanted to be his wife, and she just did everything she could to please him.

They got engaged by the witness and blessing of Mrs. Adler, and Samuel was not unhappy for doing so. The two families got together and had dinner, they didn’t throw an engagement party. But Elina didn’t mind, she was not for his money. She thought that though he didn’t like her, he didn’t hate her as well. And he was getting closer to her. She believed that things were getting better.
