CHAPTER 9 —The Witch's Gaze Carolyn My breath came in desperate gasps, cold air stinging my lungs as I looked up at the woman who stood before me. Her emerald eyes pierced through me, and the sharp end of her staff gleamed like a predator’s fang. From the deadly look in her eyes I could tell she meant game, she wasn't messing around. I could feel the weight of her gaze more than I could see it, as if her eyes could carve their way through me, picking apart every truth, every lie, every fear.
