CHAPTER 10 —Invisible at Dawn Carolyn Dawn finally broke, as the early morning sun smiled above us. It didn’t arrive with warmth or comfort, only a thin, pale light bleeding slowly into the sky, diluting the darkness without completely banishing it. The forest looked different in that hour between night and morning. Less monstrous, maybe, but more exposed. I stood in the witch’s compound, shaking so badly my teeth chattered, I struggled to get a grip of myself. The witch raised her staff slowly and deliberately, the carved runes along its length glowing faintly as dawn touched them.
