CHAPTER 19 —Moonlit Deception Carolyn I woke to the sound of voices in the forest. At first, I thought it was part of the forest, the way branches murmured to one another when the wind slipped through them, but this was different, this was human speech in the voices of two males although the contents of their conversation was inaudible. My eyes snapped open and I looked at the wall clock above the hearth, it was a few minutes past midnight. The fire in the hearth had burnt into embers, casting faint shadows across the stone walls.
