CHAPTER 20—The Lie I Told Myself

“Carolyn! Carolyn!!” Rowenna called and I woke up to see her holding and tapping me, my heart was pounding in my chest and I was shivering with cold and fear, I felt dampness from my thighs downward and my clothes were soaked and when I looked down I was in the river near the forest.
For a long, disoriented moment, I didn’t know what was happening or what was real, I screamed and pushed Rowenna away from me with fear trying to stand but my legs betrayed me.
Rowenna hugged me tightly trying to calm me down. “It wasn't real, it was a dream!” She said holding my shoulder, “you're safe now, I won't let anything happen to you.”
