On the flight heading overseas, Conrad Gibson suddenly suffered a severe asthma attack. Fortunately, the passenger beside him, Humphrey Blake, sprang into action with first aid and saved his life.

Once Conrad caught his breath and started to thank him, Humphrey waved it off with a warm laugh. "If you want to thank anyone, thank my wife. She's the one who taught me all those emergency tricks."

He grinned and waved a pregnancy test slip in his hand. "My wife is expecting. I cut my business trip short just to rush back and see her. Saving you today feels like a little blessing for our baby."

Conrad noticed the sparkling diamond ring on Humphrey's finger and could not help but sigh. "You two really have a wonderful marriage."

"Yeah, you have no idea how much she fusses over me. Even this sweater I'm wearing, she knitted it herself." Humphrey's face lit up with a mixture of sweet affection and playful exasperation.

Conrad thought of his own wife, Maeve Barnes, and a tender smile softened his features.

They had been married seven years. For their anniversary, Maeve had given him a one-of-a-kind custom ring and promised she would love only him for the rest of her life.

This time, he had kept his trip secret from her, hoping to surprise her on her birthday.

His heart filled with anticipation. The moment the plane landed, and he stepped out of the arrivals gate, he spotted a petite figure in a fitted long dress waiting ahead.

Joy flashed across his face. Before he could call out, Humphrey threw his arms wide open, pulled the woman into a tight embrace, and planted a loving kiss on her forehead. "Honey!"

In that instant, Conrad felt as if ice had flooded his veins.

He stood frozen like a statue, watching Humphrey kiss Maeve's forehead with such tenderness.

"The weather turned chilly today. Why didn't you wear more layers? What if you catch a cold? I'd be heartbroken."

Maeve handed him the coat draped over her arm. As she did, her gaze landed on Conrad standing just a short distance away.

Their eyes met. Conrad's eyes reddened with unshed tears.

As she did, her gaze landed on Conrad standing just a short distance away. Their eyes met. Conrad's eyes reddened with unshed tears. "I did a good deed on the flight today," Humphrey noticed the tension and winked. He reached out, grabbed Conrad's hand, and pulled him closer. "This is Conrad. He had an asthma attack on the plane, and I helped him out. We hit it off right away. Honey, let's all have dinner together later." "Sure," Maeve replied. Her expression flickered for a split second before she regained her composure. She extended her hand to Conrad with a polite smile that carried a clear warning in her eyes. "Hello, I'm Maeve." Conrad pressed his lips together and said nothing. Maeve continued smoothly, "Are you here to visit family?" At the mention of family, Conrad snapped back to reality. His body began to tremble uncontrollably. His mother had been battling a genetic illness overseas for three years, and Maeve had covered every penny of the treatment costs. She was using his mother to threaten him. A dull pain stabbed through Conrad's chest. For a moment, he could barely speak. Finally, his voice came out hoarse. "Hello." Humphrey chuckled. "He's actually here to find his wife. Maeve, you won't believe the coincidence. Your birthdays fall on the exact same day!" "Is that so? What a small world," Maeve said lightly. She slipped her arm through Humphrey's and tugged him gently. "Humphrey, go ahead to the car first. I prepared a little surprise for you." "Great!" Humphrey nodded happily and headed out. Maeve lingered for a moment. She lifted her gaze to Conrad, her voice turning cold and sharp. "You've grown bold. You actually investigated me." "I didn't..." "Don't say a word about us to Humphrey. His career is at a critical stage, and I won't let anything disrupt it. We'll talk about everything when I get back." Maeve cut him off firmly, issuing orders without room for argument. "My assistant has already booked your hotel and return flight. Go back early and stop following us." With that, she turned and walked away without a backward glance. A short while later, Humphrey appeared at the car window holding a vibrant bouquet of red roses. He waved at Conrad with a regretful smile. "Conrad, since you've got things to handle, let's catch up next time." Conrad's heart felt as if it had been sliced open. Yet he forced a stiff nod, his lips twitching into something resembling a smile. The car sped away, leaving Conrad standing alone on the cold winter street. He fought hard to hold back the tears burning in his eyes.
