Chapter 1
“Daniel?” Kira asked as she walked into Daniel's modest apartment. The lights were off which was a little usual, making fear creep into Kira's spine as she took tentative steps into the house.
“Who is in here?” Kira asked again, beads of sweat starting to form on her forehead, Daniel, her boyfriend had called her to see him.
Suddenly the lights came on and Kira squinted to adjust to the lights, when her eyes steadied, her jaw dropped at the surprise in front of her.
She saw helium balloons with imprints that said ‘WILL YOU MARRY ME?’ with flowers and gifts carefully arranged in his bedroom. Considering Daniel's financial status she knew he'd spent a fortune to put this up.
This was the least of the things Kira had expected when she came to see Daniel tonight, even if it was against the rules of her household to leave the house at odd hours and she could be put on lockdown for leaving the house by 6 pm.
Kira didn't mind. She'd always broken the rules when it came to Daniel.
Nothing would have prepared her for something that's looking like an engagement surprise.
She was startled, though she also felt a rush of adrenaline. Call it intuition or instinct but something made her turn and she saw Daniel on one knee behind her.
Holding a ring box, Kira's eyes began to water. Her hand flew to cover her mouth. She opened her mouth to speak but words felt stuck in her throat.
Being a billionaire's daughter was one of the hardest things Kira has had to deal with. She lived a life where her family had certain expectations from her but Kira craved to be decent and normal, not bitchy like typical rich people.
She got the genes from her late Mother.
“Daniel…” Kira said with a croaky voice before sucking in a sharp breath to steady her voice, “Daniel, you didn't have to do this!”
Daniel had a start-up tech company that he had been investing a lot into, Kira had been supporting him in every way she could and she wanted his success more than anything in the world.
She'd given him all her savings and she'd rather him add to his business than spend a dime on her. One of the reasons she wanted him to progress was so that they could be together in the future before her father sets her up to marry someone she doesn't have feelings for.
“I had to. I had to do this, you've supported me all this while. You've been there for me, you've cared for me, believed in me, more than my parents have, the least I can do is show you that I love you,” Daniel's throat was clogged with emotions as he said the words, but he wanted Kira to hear the words from his lips.
It wasn't much but it was his little gesture of love and that he wanted this to be forever.
“I know you love me,” Kira agreed.
“Then…please…marry me,” Daniel held the ring higher in the air. “Because I want this…” He pointed between them, “Forever. I want us to be together forever.” This was a bold step from Daniel's end. Because he knew the chances of marrying a ruthless billionaire's daughter with his financial level looked impossible.
Kira held out her ring finger, pushing back tears and giggling, her joy knew no bounds, and all that mattered to her was Daniel. He was the only one who made her feel loved and at home.
Daniel slid the ring on her finger and they hugged each other.
After sharing their happy moments, Kira looked at the time and she knew it was time to leave.
“Daniel, I need to go before my dad notices I'm not at home and starts looking for me,” Kira got up from the sofa.
“Yeah. I know.” Daniel had already seen the time, even if Kira was carried away with happiness, he was aware that time was running out and Kira would soon leave, though a part of him wished she wouldn't, “I can't wait for you to start living with me. That way I don't have to watch you leave,” Daniel aired his greatest anticipation as he waited for her cab to come.
“One day,” Kira said, smiling at Daniel.
Daniel returned her smile and kissed her on the forehead, now more than ever he wished for things to speed up real fast as the cab took Kira away from him.
He dropped his gaze on the floor staring absentmindedly at his old shoes before waking back inside.

“And where are you coming from at this time?” Kira almost stumbled as she heard the voice.
She'd successfully passed the guards and she'd thanked God she didn't see anyone on her way inside the house. She just let out a breath of relief before her father's abrupt voice pushed it back into her lungs.
Kira summoned courage to look her father in the eyes and she wondered to herself why her father would come into her room.
“Father…” The stern look on Kira's father's face made her look even more stupid and she wished she hadn't said anything at all.
“Kira,” His tone was icy, “Where are you coming from?” He'd asked her again, there was no dodging the question.
Kira stylishly hid her right hand where Daniel had put his ring on her back.
“I…went out with my friends,” Kira stuttered, she wasn't a good liar.
“You went out with friends?” Her father repeated sarcastically, standing to his feet, and taking menacing steps towards Kira, she also stepped back knowing what her father was capable of.
“You are just like your mother. Carefree and useless, do you realize you're a daughter of a billionaire? You can't be seen around nuisances…”
“My friends are not nuisances,” Kira retorted, she'd never talked back to her father, not once since she was born but she hated it when she spoke ill about her mother and now he had to take it to her friends.
Her father's glare tightened and she swallowed.
“You now talk back to me? And you expect me not to believe your friends are rude bunch of fools.” He straightened his dress shirt, “Well, you won't be meeting then after today because you're getting married tomorrow and leaving this country,”
