CHAPTER 12

(VIOLA’S POV) Mr Kay looked so excited to see me that I wondered if I was doing the right thing by coming to see him for this. Perhaps he would change his attitude towards me once I told him the reason why I was here. He offered me the seat opposite him to sit and I did so preparing myself for what I planned on telling him. He looked so cheerily that I reconsidered what I had to say. “How was your first day of school Miss King.” He asked setting aside the papers that he had seemed to be working on and putting his hands forward as he now focused on me. “Oh! It was very well Mr Kay.” I said to him with a forced smile trying to act relaxed . I could not tell him how my day really went could I? I could not tell him that I was distracted throughout the day because my mind kept on going to the tutor that he had assigned to me earlier this morning. Of course I could not tell him that. I did wonder what his reactions might be if I told him how my day truly ent. “It was fine. Thank you for asking Sir.” I said to him with another fake smile plastered on my face. “That is good to hear.” He said to me and then he looked like he was searching the table for something. Finally he picked up a paper and then handed it to me. “It is good that you came here. I was going to find a way to get this to your father.” He said extending his hand so that the paper was now directly in front of me. I looked at it as I collected it gently. “Could you help me give it to him?” He said to me. Without a word, I began to nod my head at him while my eyes went over the word on a paper. In a few seconds of glancing quickly over the paper, I knew what it was. I swallowed. “Mr Kay.” I said now sitting up. “This is about the tutoring? Me, tutoring the bik- sorry the exchange student.” “Yes it is.” He replied me nodding his head at me as his face now got more serious. “Is there a problem?” “Um yes there is.” I said going ahead to say it despite the huge lump that had formed in my throat. “What is it?” He said to me now looking more concerned than serious. “Actually I am not so sure that I would be able to do this Mr Kay.” I said to him getting ready for whatever reaction he was going to throw at me. “I am not sure I would be able to tutor this student Mr Kay.” “Is there any specific reason that I should know of?” Mr Kay asked his eyebrows up in question. I swallowed again. There were so many reason flying in to my head. At the top of the list was the fact that my head seemed to be spiraling in nuts and confusion because of this biker. There was another reason which was because we seemed to have some friction between each other. This came from our first meeting at the waterside of course. And then there was the fact that he was uninterested. Out of this reasons, the first two were not ones that I could tell Mr Kay but the first two were. So of course I went ahead and did what anyone would. Pushed forward the reason because it was the most suitable and not because it was the true reason. “I think Um- he may not be interested Mr Kay.” I said to him shifting uncomfortably in my seat. “He may not be interested?” Mr Kay treated as if he did not fully comprehend what I said. “Yes he may not. I don’t think he wants this. And that would make it harder for me. I can not force him to do what he doesn’t want to do.” I said to him. Saying these things out loud made me see that it was not such a bad reason to put forward. Charlie truly was showing that he was not interested and I could not lie. I was almost going to tell Mr Kay that Charlie had bunked off today. On his first day! And that probably meant that he planned on doing it a lot more often. But something held me back from reporting this to the principal. Maybe there was a little part of me that was trying to cover up for this biker. Mr Kay took off his glasses and then he set it on the table carefully. After which he put his hands forward and sat up more straighter than he was doing initially. “I very much understand where you are coming from Miss king.” He said to me and I almost belived him. “In fact you are probably right. He may not be interested in this. But it does not mean that we will give up on him now will we?” I kept quiet unsure of the answer to give Mr Kay. I just twisted my fingers together absent mindedly. What he was saying was beginning to make sense and knowing my principal very well, I knew he had more sensible things to say. “We should not.” He answered himself holding my gaze. “Now I understand any fears that you may have with this arrangement which is very understandable but you should know that sometimes it is good to indulge in things like this. You are also doing your part in contributing to the society, now that is very good you know. We should not call the bikers outcasts or treat them that way.” Mr Kay did not fully understand my point, he probably he thought that I did not want to be associated with Charlie because this is the biker. But that was far from the point. I was not raised to treat someone differently because they were different from me. The only problem was that there was something about him that made me fell a little bit off. And I hated that I could not be direct with Mr Kay about that. “Look Miss King.” Mr Kay said in a calmer tone. “I understand that this is a lot for you and I can’t force you to do it. I can only plead with you because you are the most eligible student for this and I can only tell you that on your own part, this would be very good for you.” I listened to him carefully. “So you can go ahead and think about it okay?” He said with a kind smile as he nodded at me. “I would be waiting for your reply but I just want you to think about it.” I hesitated and then I nodded my head, folding the paper he had given me neatly and putting it in my bag. I then gathered my things as I prepared to leave. “Okay Mr Kay. I would do that. Thank you very much sir.” I said to him politely. “That is okay. Thank you too and do have a nice night okay.” He said to me. “Yes sir.” I said and then after goodbye, I let myself carefully out of the office. As I sighed, I turned and gasped and jumped as I saw someone standing there right out side. Charlie.
