(VIOLA’S POV)
“Well well. Who do we have here?” Charlie said as he looked me from head to toe.
I got over my surprise from seeing him and then shaking my head at him, I kept on walking straight.
“So let me guess. You were here to snitch on me weren’t you?” He called after me.
I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at him.
“Excuse me?” I said to him rhetorically.
“You went crying to Mr Kay to say that I bunked off right?” He said to me.
I held his gaze for a while contemplating what to tell him and then realizing that I would rather not have this conversation with him incase I said something stupid, I turned around to leave. Then I changed my mind and turned to him giving him an icy smile.
“Everything is not about you Charles.” I said to him and then I kept on walking.
I purposefully added ‘Charles’ knowing fully well that he would not like it and just as I suspected, he did not like it.
“I told you! It’s Charlie!” He called after me but I did not stop.
I was satisfied as I walked away. I held close my backpack and just as I was wondering how I was going to get home, my phone rang. It was my boyfriend. I smiled just as I picked up the cal.
“Hey Baby.” He greeted and that made me smile even more deeply.
“Hey.” I said shyly even though I was one of the few people walking in the school halls and I was sure that no one was paying attention to my conversation.
“Where are you? I saw Pat a couple of minutes ago and she said that you are still at school. She said you went back to see Mr Kay.” He said to me and I could hear that he was out of breath.
“Oh yeah I did.” I said hoping that we did not dwell on the matter for long. I did not like that I was going to have to lie to him.
“Is everything okay? Are you sure things are fine with Mr Kay?” He asked and he was still sounding out of breath.
“Yes baby. I am sure.” I said to him. “Everything is very okay. I just had a few things to settle with him that’s all. But there is no problem at all.”
As I was taking, I was thinking of the folded paper in my bag that I was supposed to give to my father after I had made my decision on what to do with this whole matter . I hoped that, that would not be a problem.
“Okayy then.” Jake said but he did not sound like he was convinced. I could almost bet that he wasn’t.
“So where are you anyway?” I asked him desperate to get away from the conversation we were having and curious to find out why he was out of breath.
“I’m making some rounds on the field.” He said to me and I figured before he even made his sentence complete.
“You all are firing up so early. It is just the first day of school anyway.” I said to him.
“It is never to earth for me and the boys to get our groove on.” He said to him and I could imagine him smirking playfully at me.
I laughed then.
“Yeah whatever.” I said to him.
“So are you done with Mr Kay.” He asked. “Or am I going to have to come over and whisk my woman away?”
“Ther won’t be any need for any whisking Jake.” I said still laughing as I turned to the corner that would lead me out of the school building. “I am leaving school right now.”
“You are?? Can’t you chill a little.” He said to me pleadingly.
“No sir, I can not chill a little.” I said to him teasingly. “I have to go and see Pat, I promised her that I would stop by.” I said to him.
“Well hold on so that I could drop you off or something.” He said but I did not want to stress him.
“But that would mean that you would have to cut short your practice.” I pointed out to him.
“Yeah. I can live with that.” He said and i could picture him shrugging.
That earned a smile from me.
“I am fine baby.” I assured him. “Why don’t you go on with practice, go home and have a bath and then have your nap. Then later in the evening, you could stop by at ours and say we could have all the fun we want.”
“Ooooh I really like the sound of that.” Jake said and I laughed.
“Plus Dean really hopes that he can get to see you. And I think Dad won’t mind seeing you either.” I said to him.
I heard Jake groan. “Your dad is around? I am not sure he is going to be so happy about that.” He said
Not wanting to go too much in to talking about the relationship between Jake and my dad, I quickly diverted the conversations.
“How about we talk about this later. Like maybe when you are over at my place.” I said to him.
“Okay babe. I will come over and see you later.” He said to me
“All freshened up and rested?” I asked him and he laughed.
“Yes Baby, all freshened up and rested.” He agreed.
“Good. Now I’ll be waiting for you.” I said to him
“I love you.” He said to me
“I love you too.”
I had just ended the call and I am not ashamed to say that I was smiling sheepishly when someone cleared his or her throat behind me. I knew who it was before I turned around and heaven knows that I was not in the mood for this.
