Rain hammered against the windshield, relentless and angry, but I ignored it. Lagos nights were never quiet, but tonight felt different too heavy, too sharp, like the air itself was warning me. His fingers brushed my wrist just a whisper of touch but it was enough to make my knees weak. Electricity sparked, hot and deep, and settled low in my stomach. Then, suddenly a loud crash. People screamed. Security rushed. A fight had broken out near the entrance. But he didn’t flinch. Not once. His gaze stayed locked on me. “Leave here. Now,” he ordered. “Why? What’s happening?” I asked, panic clawing at my throat. He leaned close, lips grazing my ear. The air between us crackled. “Because the night just changed,” he murmured. “And you don’t know it yet… but so has your life.” Before I could respond, he grabbed my hand firm, warm, commanding and pulled me through a hidden side door just as chaos consumed the hall. Chioma called after me, her voice drowned in screams. “Ada! Wait!” I didn’t look back. My heart raced. My breath tangled. And all I could think: Who is this man? And why does it feel like my life just became his?
