"Is the matching outfits compulsory?" Ryan asks for the third time in a row. "Yes, it is. You need to show that you're a couple, or about to become one, in your case." Ryne answers his brother in the dressing room, whose face looked like a mashed potato.
"Let's get this over with, man." He continues, looking at his brother's reflection.
They both left and joined the starting party, patiently waiting for Isla to arrive.
In no time, Isla arrives in a simple but elegant sage green gown, matching Ryan's suit. She did a simple makeover and glossed her love-shaped lips. She steals gasps from the crowd, as she walks towards the twins.
"Took you long enough," Ryan says with a lopsided smile.
"You look stunning, Isla," Ryne says with sincerity.
"I forgot that men do give compliments. Thank you, Ryne" Isla says, side-eyeing Ryan.
"It's time for the couple to open the dance floor with their first dance." The emcee says, interrupting their discussion.
"I'll see you around, Ryne," Isla adds, before walking out to dance with Ryan.
The dance is quick and short, with each one of them not knowing the basis of dancing.
The party continues, as Isla finds a comfortable stool, and makes a companion with the cocktail served to her.
"Oh, for the love of Christ!" She mumbles as she sees a flock of persons walking towards her. To make matters worse, Nora was in the lead.
"Congratulations, Isla. You've finally gotten what you wanted. Heads-up, darling. Next time, don't pretend to be what you're not." Nora says with a forced smile. "Thank you," Isla answered in an equal tone and stood, looking around for Ryan.
She finds him outside the party, drinking a glass of wine. "Everyone sees me as a threat now. Just so you know, you have a fan-based group at work, where everyone practically drolls at you." Isla tells him, watching his face for any reaction.
"Why don't you 'practically droll' at me?" Ryan asks her, still looking ahead into the cold night.
"Well, because..."
"Now here you are. I was looking all over for you two." Ryne says, cutting Isla's answers.
"You two will have to sit at a place I designed specially for you. Let's go." Ryne says, leading the way towards the seats.
"Sometimes I hate him," Ryan whispers to Isla.
"I heard that. I love you more, bro." Ryne says with a smile.
Isla laughs gently until she gets to the seat which she uncomfortably shares with Ryan.
"This is so boring," Isla says with a sigh.
"Don't you like parties?"
"No, I don't. Parties are uncomfortable events for me."
"So, why were you at the club that night... The night I..." Ryan asks uncomfortably.
"I... I went..." Isla was cut short by Ryne's sudden appearance.
"You won't believe it, Ryan. Ava is back." He says with a toothy smile.
Ryan chuckles for the first time. "Finally, the prodigal cousin comes back home."
Isla is confused until she sees two girls, dressed to the skin, advancing towards them. The first girl walked towards Ryan with a smile. "Hello, Cousin. It's so nice to see you." She says, kissing his cheek. She points towards her friend. "This is Mia, my best friend." She continues, taking no obvious notice of Isla.
"Hi, Mia and Ava, I'm..." Isla says politely. However, Mia cuts her short.
"Hello Ryan, I've heard so much about you," Mia says flirtatiously and tries to advance towards him.
"I can't say the same," Ryan adds in a cold voice.
"This is Isla, my girlfriend. Welcome to our engagement party, and if you would excuse us, we would love to dance." Ryan says and drags Isla towards the dancing floor.
"Why did you drag me here? I can't dance." Isla says angrily with wide eyes.
"I expect a "thank you." She was sizing you up and trying to flirt with me." Ryan answers her.
"And why do you care?"
"Because you need to get used to being my girlfriend. You can't convince people we're about to get married when you are acting like a doll all the time. Don't be a pushover." Ryan adds with a bored expression.
Isla says nothing but continues the dance. Mia on the opposite side watched furiously, as the two danced at the center of the party. "Ryan will be mine, just wait and see." She mutters and grabs a drink.
