“I'm sorry, what?!”
Anderson's eyes widened and his jaw hung open. Maybe he misheard what the queen said. She might have been talking about the other guy who just left.
“You heard me.” Ella glared at the Alpha standing before her.
The nerve of him to boldly make such a declaration. The guards rushed towards Anderson to grab him. He struggled to free himself from their grip wondering why he was been arrested for telling the truth.
“Please believe me, my queen. I am your mate. And you are mine as well. I felt a strong connection towards someone in this pack. I didn't know who it was. That is, until the day I met you. The day you decided to graciously allow me into this pack. I am telling the truth my queen, please believe me.” Anderson said, his tone clear and earnest.
The guards holding Anderson seemed to be contemplating what to do as they looked in Ella's direction, waiting to see her reaction. She tightened her fists beside her. Could what he was saying be true? The whole courtroom was filled with murmurs at what was just declared.
“I have no reason to believe what you are saying is true. You are a liar. You are not my mate and that is all there is to it.” Ella scoffed before glaring at Anderson.
“But I am. I knew you were the one from the moment I saw you. I swear on my life that I have no reason to lie to you, my queen. You are my mate.” Anderson freed himself from the guards and started walking closer to Ella who was still seated on the throne.
“The one that is my other half. You alone hold my heart, Queen Ella Archer. I do not think I can be anything without you. There's only you and there would only ever be you. Believe me, my queen. We are mates. I can already feel a deep well of love in my heart for you. My inner Alpha screams and begs to be by your side, Queen Ella. Please, accept me. Accept me as your mate and let our hearts unite as one. Let our souls find peace in each other and let me give you happiness that overshadows all the sadness in your heart. Allow me to love you, my mate.”
The entire courtroom was silent at Anderson's bold declaration of love towards Ella. Ella herself was speechless as she didn't know what to say. Was this for real? Hypha rose from his seat and cleared his throat. He gave Ella a bow before turning to address the courtroom.
“My queen. Esteemed elders and high-cabinet members in this courtroom. This young man has just declared himself to be the mate of our queen, the head of Starfire pack. This is something that is both astounding and pleasing to the ear as it means we finally have a mate for our Queen who will help her rule this pack.”
The courtroom erupted into excited murmurs as everyone was excited at the prospect of Ella finally finding her mate. Ella tightened her fists so hard, she was sure they would draw blood. They don't know what she had been through. They knew nothing.
Anderson still stood before her, a small smile on his face. His blue eyes seemed to stare right into her soul, like he could hear all her thoughts and see all of her. She hated it.
“Silence.” Ella's voice boomed making the courtroom descend into the silence. She alone was in charge here. She'd be damned if anybody made decisions for her concerning her life.
“Anderson, was it?” Ella asked, with a passive expression.
“Yes, my queen.” Anderson smiled, pleased that she remembered his name. “Anderson Hunter.”
“I reject you as my mate.”
The whole courtroom was astonished by Ella's rejection. Even Anderson looked confused and heartbroken as he wondered why his mate wanted nothing to do with him.
“But why, my queen? You do not want me as your mate?” Anderson asked, his tone filled with sadness.
“No.” She answered.
“So you don't want it?” He asked, his head facing down.
“Yes…No…Maybe…” She huffed in frustration at her confusing line of thought. What was she saying? Of course she didn't want him.
“Yes? No? What are you saying?” He chuckled at her confusion.
“I don't know, okay?!” Ella yelled out, a growl emanating from her throat. The whole courtroom was dead silent. Ella cleared her throat before addressing the court. She had to get herself together. She was the queen.
“I, Ella Archer, reject Anderson Hunter as my mate.”
The courtroom fell in murmurs again wondering what could be going on in Ella's mind. Anderson wore a sad expression on his face. He was probably trying to control his emotions as he was before a courtroom. Hypha stood up again to speak to Ella.
“But my queen, you need a mate to rule by your side and produce heirs with you.” Hypha tried to reason with Ella.
“I know that. I will get a mate but it will not be an Alpha.”
The elders and cabinet members discussed almond themselves, wondering what could be the reason behind her proclamation.
“Who do you have in mind then, my queen? Hypha asked.
“Thank you for that question. As I've said, I do not want to mate with an Alpha which is why I decided to reject Anderson Hunter despite his declaration that he is my mate. He is not my mate. I refuse to believe that.” Ella paused, looking at all the members before her gaze landed on Anderson. They stared into each other's eyes for what seemed like a long time before Ella finally spoke again.
“I will be mating with an Omega slave by the name Raymond Cullen.”
The elders all stood up astonished with petrified expressions. Even Hypha seemed short of words with nothing to say. Anderson couldn't say anything but stare with widened eyes.
“What?!”
