Chapter 2 The News Destiny practically bounced to the library, the warm glow of the setting sun casting a golden aura around her. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the distant hum of generators providing a lively background beat. She felt like she was walking on sunshine, her feet barely touching the ground. The email was still fresh in her mind and she couldn't stop smiling. As she approached the library, she saw Funmi waiting for her outside, a curious expression on her face. Funmi's hair was styled in intricate braids, and she wore a bright yellow sundress that matched the sunflowers blooming in the garden behind her. She looked like a ray of sunshine, and Destiny couldn't help but grin. "What's going on, Destiny? You sounded excited on the phone," Funmi asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. Destiny couldn't contain herself any longer. She pulled out her phone and showed Funmi the email. "I got in! I'm going to India!" she squealed, jumping up and down. Funmi squealed back, and the two friends hugged, jumping up and down together. "Congratulations, girl! I'm so proud of you!" Funmi exclaimed. They spun around, laughing and twirling, drawing attention from passersby. They walked into the library, arm in arm, and settled into their favorite study spot. The room was filled with the musty smell of old books and the soft hum of computers, but Destiny was too excited to focus on studying. "So, when do you leave?" Funmi asked, her eyes wide with excitement. "I'm not sure yet. I need to sort out my visa and accommodation first," Destiny replied, her mind racing with the logistics. Funmi nodded, her expression turning serious. "You'll be fine, Destiny. You'll make so many friends and have an amazing time. And don't forget to try the food – Indian food is the best!" Destiny laughed, feeling grateful for her friend's support. "I'll try all the food, I promise." Reality dawned on Funmi that her friend will no longer be available at her beck and call “I will really miss you babe, you know that don't you?” “I sure do, you silly girl. I will miss you too, who'd be patient enough to put up with my baby-like tantrums if not you and Chike?” Just then, their friend, Chike, walked into the library, his eyes scanning the room for them. He was tall and lanky, with a quick smile and a mischievous glance. "Hey, girls! What's going on?" he asked, plumping down beside them. "Destiny got into the residency program in India!" Funmi exclaimed, bouncing up and down. Chike's face lit up. "That's amazing, Destiny! Congratulations!" He high-fived her, and the three friends spent the next few minutes discussing Destiny's plans. Dr. Okoro, their pharmacology lecturer, walked into the library, a stack of books in her arms. She was a no-nonsense woman with a kind smile, and Destiny had always admired her. "Ah, Destiny, I heard the news," Dr. Okoro said, smiling warmly. "Congratulations on getting into the program. You're going to do great things." Destiny beamed with pride, feeling grateful for her lecturer's support. "Thank you, ma. I'm excited to learn and grow." The library's closing time crept up on them, and they reluctantly packed up their things. As they walked out into the cool night air, Funmi turned to Destiny and said, "We're going to miss you so much, but we're also so proud of you. You're going to crush it in India!" Destiny smiled, feeling the tears pring to her eyes. "I'll miss you guys too. But I'll be back, and I'll have stories to tell!" The friends, hugging, and Destiny felt a sense of excitement and anticipation wash over her. She was ready for this new chapter in her life.
