Chapter 14 - The Doctor

1646 Words
There was a long pause..... "Why? Did you find someone else?" She asked again, breaking the silence. "What if I did? Will you insist?" His voice was agitated. "Of course, you haven't paid me." She tried her best to calm him down. "Damn that money!" He shouted. "Tell me, you didn't show up here because I refused to give you the money you wanted!!!" Nathan was now mad and started to yell again, which she feared the most. "It's not it___" She felt a bit scared. "Then, what!?! All you care about is money! Money means everything to you!" Nathan was still shouting, and she couldn't help being teary. "If only... I had another choice... I would never come up... to you and ask..." She cried softly. "Then who would you come up to? Another customer from the bar?! Oh, how much do you have got?" he asked angrily. "Why... do you always... think about that? I already....told you___" Her words broke. "Well, come to think of it. Are you true to your words?" He cut her in disgust. "What else would I say... you won't listen to me..." She cried and sniffed as her tears fell rapidly down her cheeks. Then there was another pause..... "Where are you?" Nathan's tone was back to normal. "I'm outside... your apartment." She answered softly, which surprised him, and he fell silent. "Why didn't you come inside?" "I guess I need your permission first." She answers quietly. He sighed deeply and didn't say a word, so she continued speaking. "Mr. Conner... what do you want me to do?" "Damn it, Kimberly! Please don't make me feel guilty! It was not my damn fault! Get yourself here!" He demanded and hung up the phone. Kimberly took five minutes to go up to his room. She didn't think of knocking and used the duplicated key. To her surprise, Nathan was on the sofa with an angry face. So, like Nathan, he's shocked to see her soaking wet and realizes it's raining outside. Now he doesn't exactly know how to react. "I need to take a shower." She started and headed to the bathroom. Nathan took one more deep sigh, placed his hand on his face, and clenched his teeth. Then they followed her inside the room and anxiously lay on the bed. Kimberly went out of the bathroom wearing his bathrobe and found Nathan lying on the bed, still in his office suit. She approached him slowly; he seemed asleep with one hand on his head. She knew he was mad after the argument earlier. She sat at his side, stopped momentarily, and stared at him. He moved a little, his hand fell, and awakened. She got a bit surprised and moved a space between them. "Now what?" He suddenly asked. She always thought about the meaning of his "what" question, as if she refused to have s*x with him. So she moved closer and tried kissing him. "Stop it." He refused. She was shocked and moved inches away. Then he rose. "Did you think I was starving to have s*x?" He asked firmly. "I thought..." She said softly. "You thought what? I only care about s*x like you, who only cares about money!" His tone started to rise again. "I'm sorry..." She cried and hid her face. He took another sigh. "Get out of here." He steered coldly. "What?" She asked while glancing at him, despite his cold treatment. "You heard me." He treated her cold and just lay back in bed. For Kimberly, it was better he chose to let her leave. She felt so tired and not feeling well. After changing back into her wet clothes, she left without a word. Nathan didn't even bother to give her a look. Kimberly is walking down the stairs when suddenly everything seems black, and she collapses. Nathan, on the other hand, was still awake. He thought about many things, though he had no idea where to start resolving them. Then suddenly his phone rang. "Yes?" He asks halfheartedly. "Sir, sorry to bother you this late evening. But the girl you might know was unconscious on the second floor." It was from the security headquarters. "What!" He exclaims horribly and thinks it could be Kimberly. Of course, he didn't bring any other women. "Yes, Sir, she's in our quarters now. We have already applied for first aid. Do you want us to call an ambulance?" The other line continued. "No... I'll be right there..." He quickly ran towards the ground floor. "How is she?" He asked worriedly, then moved to Kimberly's side. She's lying on the bench with a cold- compress on her forehead. "She seems to have a high fever, Sir. " The female security personnel answered. "Kimberly..." He cried. "Do you want us to call an ambulance?" The man on the phone asked again. "No, I'll take her to my room." He refused. "Will help you sir." The other one offers. "No, it's fine, thank you." He refused again and carried Kimberly back to his room. Nathan lay her on the bed, taking off her shoes. Then he took some clothes from his wardrobe and dressed her, removing her wet clothes. After that, he pulled the blanket at half her body and sat beside her. He watched her tenderly before calling Henry. "Nathan? Can't wait to see me tomorrow?" Henry teased. "I need you to come over here to my apartment." "Why?" Henry got alarmed. "Please." "Fine, I'll be right there." "Bring some of the medical stuff." "Hey, tell me, what is it? You made me panicky." "You'll see when you get here." Nathan didn't take his eyes off her. He was worried, confused, and bitterly thinking about this trouble she'd been in. The need for money seems to have a huge reason. Then the doorbell rang as Henry arrived in an hour. "Why in such a hurry?" He asked. "Come in." Nathan fetched the door. Henry stopped and stared at the woman lying in his bed. "Oh? Tell me, is she __?" "Yes, Kimberly, she collapsed." He started. "What happens?" "She fell unconscious." Henry sat beside her and touched her head. Then he pulled the blanket down to her feet, showing almost her whole body in Nathan's clothes. "She's hot; get towels and soak it in cold water." "Okay!" Nathan went out to get what Henry instructed. He went back quickly with the basin of cold water and the towel. Henry put the thermometer on her and checked her eyes and ears with his flashlight. And he then used the stethoscope, sliding the tip of it inside the shirt to her chest. "What the hell you're doing?" Nathan protested with a mean look. "Do you want me to check her or what?" Henry pretended to be irritated, but it only teased his best friend. "Yes, of course, but that one? Does it exactly?" Nathan muttered distinctively. "You gross! I'm a doctor! I'm not like you! You're so malicious." "Well, just make it clear." "Mor*n, just wipe the towel on your girlfriend." He instructed, but wore a smile. Nathan sat on the other side of the bed, wiping the towel on Kimberly's face. Henry continued checking her heartbeats and blood pressure. He stopped when he saw her face all wet, dripping down onto the pillow. "What the heck are you doing?" He asked Nathan. "You said wipe her with this." Henry shook his head. "Can you just get a dry towel?" "Ha?" "Just do it!" He insisted. When Nathan gave him the towel, he pulled the wet pillow from Kimberly's head and snatched it slowly. Then replace it with a dry one. "Watch and learn!" Henry soaks the towel in the cold water bowl and then squeezes it. He wipes it from her face, followed by the dry towel, then repeats the process in her arms. Then he pulled the clothes showing some of her skin to wipe it freely. "Hey... I'll do that." Nathan quickly ran to stop him but fell on Kimberly's stomach. She moaned, and he froze. "She's sick, bro. Give her some rest." Henry teased again with a little laugh. Nathan rose and slapped his best friend's back. "Ouch!" "Stop it! How is she?" "Nothing serious. She seemed over fatigued. You should at least give her some rest." He jested while taking medicine in his bag's side pockets. "Here, it's for the fever. I advise her to take a long rest." "Do you think she can make it tomorrow?" "The fever might come back, but I think she can as long as she rests until tomorrow." Nathan didn't ask any more questions and stared at her as he wiped her body. "She's pretty." Henry suddenly spoke. "I know." He agreed without a glance. "Well, I got to be going. There's nothing serious to worry much about." He instated and stood carrying his bag. "Thanks, bro." "Anytime. Anyways, I was with George when you called. You want to join us?" "Sorry, I must stay." "I know, just testing you." Nathan led Henry back to the door. "Tomorrow, then." "Yah!" "Call me." Nathan went back into his room and lay beside her. She's in her deep sleep, her lips are so red that it's so tempting, but then she kisses her on the forehead. He stared at her long before falling asleep. In the middle of the night, Nathan awakened and found her shaking badly. He shifts on top of her, putting his hand at her side to balance. "Kimberly...Kimberly..." He shakes her worriedly. "Cold... I'm.... cold...." She whispered weakly. Nathan pulled her closer and locked her in his chest. Then cover them with a blanket. "It's gonna' be okay." He whispers back, kissing her shaken lips lightly and holding them until she stops. It seems effective because, under the blanket, Kimberly sleeps deep in his arms.
