Chapter 3

The graduation ceremony’s tomorrow. Great. Glad to be OUT of that hellhole. OUT of the place where I feel stupid and goddamned JUDGED for every single damn thing that I do (sounds familiar? High school? Ahem-ahem #UGH. Not everyone matures after those “essential teen high school years”, unfortunately). AWAY from all the “should bes” and “should dos” aka EXPECTATIONS from people who will NOT be in my short life forever (and people who mean NOTHING to me outside of college). Away, away, far far away from it all. THAT’S what I look forward to from college the most. The ONLY goddamn thing that matters to me at one point onwards.

If only I could be totally honest and make this my graduation speech! But the damn event will be HOURS longer if every student has to give a speech. Maybe I can sneak out the back door when no one is looking? And leave my ugly graduation cap and robes somewhere for the people in charge to collect them back. I have no clue how the oh-so-grand (from how they promoted it on the college website) looks like from the inside. Not many interior photos. And I’m not sure which one is the hall we’ll be gathering in. The Sunbird Hotel. Sounds very…… tropical.

I’ve graduated. At last. I am now a free man in the body (and formal graduation-appropriate outfit) of a woman. The world don’t know bout the last part of that sentence yet. But free? You bet they’ll know I’m free.

I stayed in college a few years later than my peers to avoid making “The Big Decision(s)” of what the hell I’m gonna do after that. But (sigh) eventually I’m going to have to make it anyway. I kinda have a plan and some things on my agenda, but whether they follow through or not is an entirely different story. Everyone expects you to have made up your mind by the time you finish tertiary (or quaternary for some people who can last that long) education but before that we still had to ask our teachers & lecturers for permission to leave for the bathroom. Top that.
