SAN SETTIMIO FAIR 27 September 2009 It was already dark when Maria Lucia arrived at the Jesi train station. Although it was still hot, it was the end of September and the days were becoming shorter. She walked along the avenue of the station to Porta Valle. The city, outside and inside the walls, was full of the stalls for the traditional San Settimio fair. Wonderful! she thought. I’ll be better able to blend into the crowd and not be tracked, in case someone had followed me so far without me noticing. She skillfully made her way through the stalls, arrived in some narrow alleyways and started uphill to the high part of the old town.
