The Silent Girl
The first light of dawn spilled through the glass windows of Lunaris Elite Academy, painting the marble halls in silver and gold. The academy stood like a fortress of power — elegant, intimidating, and home to the strongest alphas, betas, and gifted heirs from every pack across the kingdom. To survive here, you needed dominance. To thrive, you needed a voice. Lyra Vale had neither. Her boots clicked softly against the floor as she walked, head bowed, silver hair gleaming under the light. Her eyes — clear, pale blue — darted briefly toward the laughing students gathered near the lockers. Their words, sharp and mocking, carried down the hall. “She’s still here? The mute girl?” “Maybe she thinks silence will make her special.” “I heard she’s cursed. That’s why she can’t shift or speak.” Lyra said nothing — she couldn’t. But her silence wasn’t weakness. It was survival. Ever since the night her family’s pack was slaughtered, her voice had vanished, stolen by trauma and pain. No doctor, no healer, no alpha had been able to restore it. And though her body healed, her words never returned. At Lunaris, silence was the greatest flaw a wolf could possess. Still, she moved through the day like a ghost — quiet, graceful, unseen. Until she found a folded note inside her locker. > You don’t belong here, Vale. This academy is for alphas, not broken wolves. Her fingers tightened on the paper. She didn’t tear it, didn’t flinch — only slipped it into her pocket and kept walking. The sting was familiar, but she refused to let them see it hurt. --- The morning bell echoed across the courtyard. Time for Combat Training — the one class where Lyra’s silence didn’t matter. The training arena shimmered under a high glass dome, sunlight gleaming on the black stone floor. Students stood in groups, stretching, laughing, boasting about their wins. Lyra stayed to the side, wrapping her hands with cloth as her pulse thudded quietly in her ears. Then the doors opened. A wave of dominance rolled through the air, sharp and heavy enough to silence the entire room. A tall man stepped into the arena — broad-shouldered, dark-haired, dressed in black. His golden eyes caught the light like molten fire. The students straightened immediately. Professor Kael Draven. The academy’s most feared alpha. Powerful, disciplined, rumored to have destroyed an entire rogue pack by himself. “Pair up,” his voice commanded, low and controlled. “And show me what you’ve learned.” Lyra, as usual, had no partner. Kael’s gaze swept the room — and stopped on her. “You,” he said simply. “Step forward.” The snickers began instantly. “Professor, she doesn’t even talk.” “She’ll last five seconds.” Lyra ignored them and stepped into the ring. Her opponent was Ronan, one of the academy’s top-ranked students — tall, arrogant, and cruel. “This’ll be fun,” he sneered. Kael’s golden eyes flicked between them. “Begin.” Ronan lunged. Lyra moved like a whisper — fast, precise, fluid. She ducked under his swing, twisted his wrist, and sent him crashing to the ground in one flawless motion. Gasps erupted around them. Ronan snarled, sprang up, and attacked again — harder, faster. But Lyra’s body remembered every lesson her father ever taught her. She sidestepped, spun, and swept his legs again, pinning him before he could even blink. Silence. Ronan’s pride shattered; Lyra rose, expression calm and unshaken. Kael watched her closely, his eyes unreadable. His aura brushed against hers — a sharp, electric pulse that made her wolf stir deep within. “Enough,” he said finally. His tone was steady, but something in his gaze lingered — curiosity, respect… and something else. As the students dispersed, still whispering, Lyra grabbed her bag. She was almost out of the room when his voice stopped her. “Vale.” She turned. Kael stood a few steps away, his expression carved from stone. “You’ll train under me from now on. Your control is… impressive.” Lyra’s heart skipped. No one had ever said that to her before. He didn’t wait for her reaction — only gave a curt nod and left, his presence fading down the hall. For a long moment, Lyra just stood there, staring after him. Her fingers trembled slightly, though she didn’t know why. Somewhere deep inside, her wolf whispered a truth she wasn’t ready to face. He’s not just your teacher. He’s your destined mate. And with that whisper, the silence around her no longer felt empty. It felt like the beginning of something she could neither control nor escape.
