Eve’s POV: My mom waved her hand back and forth in front of my face while repeating my name, "Eve, hello! Anyone home?" "Um, yes, sorry, hi." I reply, shaking my head and meeting her gaze. I wondered how long I had been staring at the empty spot on the wall, lost in thought? Perhaps it is too early in the morning to be pondering on such serious topics. No need to scramble my mind before work. "Watcha' thinkin' 'bout kiddo?" She asked, with a small smile creeping onto her face. Before I had time to answer, she added to her previous question. "You were smiling awful big, might this have something to do with a boy?" She looks my way. Annagrace gave us a side glance, momentarily gaining her attention from her phone. I picked up my muffin, which had now cooled off a bit. I went for a bite before my hand was slapped, causing me to lose my grip and drop the food back onto my plate. "Hey!" I growled. I looked up at my mother, bringing my frowning face to her field of vision. "Blessing!" She said back. She closed her eyes, bowing her head. "Right." I huffed, not liking her physicality in addressing the subject. I bowed my head, happy to be giving thanks to the Most High for my meal. "Thank you Father for this food that we are about to receive. Please bless it and let it nourish our bodies to the best of its ability. Please watch over us and keep us safe. Please keep us on the right path, Father. Thank you.” When I finished my blessing, I look up, only to meet two eager sets of eyes staring at me. "What?" I responded, curious as to why my mother and younger sister were eye-balling me. I picked up my muffin that was now lying sideways from where it had been dropped. I bit off a little more than I was going for, which caused one of the warm chocolate chips to smear on the corner of my mouth. I took my napkin and wiped my face while listening to my mother talk. "So what's his name?" She said in excitement. "Huh?" I questioned, confused. "The boy you were thinking about. Tell me!" She smiled. I rolled my eyes. "Mom, there's no boy." I replied. She looked sort of sad, like she was hoping that there was a special someone in my life. "Awh!" She pouted. I smiled at that. My mom truly is an incredible woman. She is also goofy. I’m glad that more of this side of her has come out ever since we got away from my father. “How come you didn’t get excited when you heard that Elliot and I were dating?” Annagrace asks with a hint of annoyance in her tone. “Because you’re still a teenager. It’s more worrisome when you’re younger. Eve is an adult.” Our mother replies calmly. “I’m eighteen! I’m practically an adult too!” Annagrace argues. “You are at the beginning of adulthood, yes. However, I would rather you focus on your studies until you graduate high school.” Mother responds. Annagrace huffs, clearly displeased. We carried on small talk while feeding our faces with the delicious chocolate muffins that mother had made. I asked her about work and how it was going. I even asked about Will, and a smile crept onto her face. I love seeing my mom smile. It is one of the things that make life worth living. William is not currently eating breakfast with us because he is on a business trip. He's only a few hours away, but his job pays for a hotel room so that he would not have to drive back home so late at night. He should be here by dinner time tonight though. She threw in a few questions about my work and, of course, she asked if any boys had caught my eye, which they had not. She placed her dishes in the sink, then came back and grabbed mine and Annagrace’s laying them down gently beside hers. Annagrace scurried off to finish getting ready for school. "Well someone looks hot!" I laughed, admiring my mother’s outfit. Now that she was not hidden behind her cooking apron, I could see her clothes better. I love the way that my mom dresses. Height wise, she is a bit on the taller side and skinny, but some of her clothes would still fit me. My mother is taller than me and my sister. I am definitely considered to be short. Mom wears a lot of darker colors like I do. Sometimes she lightens it up with pastel colors. Either way, she always looks so beautiful. My sister and I even borrow her clothes from time to time. Admittedly, sometimes I would take her things without asking and earn a scolding from her. “You have your own clothes! Why are you taking mine?” She would yell. Today she was wearing a fitted black shirt with a beautiful ruffled, gray kimono over it. Her black pants really complimented her figure, and she had on gorgeous, chunky high heel boots that I would definitely be borrowing later. Her nails were painted in a dark brown color, which looked nice with her tan skin tone. "William will like that outfit." I said while getting off of my stool and flashing her a wink. She slightly blushed before throwing a towel at my face and asking, "Don't you have work?” Ugh, right, I have work. It’s also Monday, and for whatever reason, I asked to be scheduled everyday this week. I have a whole week of work ahead of me. Not to be that person that is constantly complaining about how Monday is the worst, but isn’t Monday just the worst? Friday, that was more of my kind of day. I always got the weekends off, which I was grateful for. I jog up stairs and into my bathroom to brush my teeth. Knowing that the weather is going to be chilly and our store sometimes feels like a meat locker, I grab my comfy, green hoodie. I pick up my car keys off the counter and walk out the door behind my mother. Although we have different jobs, our shifts start at the same time. We get home at different hours of the day though. Annagrace is already outside standing by the neighbor's vehicle waiting while talking to Elliot. Colby is leaning against the car, scrolling on his phone. My mother greets them both, and they smile and wave at her. Baley usually gives Annagrace and his younger twin brothers Elliot and Colby a ride to school. I go over to my black SUV and my mother goes over to her silver car. I always liked my mom's car, but I loved mine and could not bring myself to get rid of it. I have so many memories of great adventures in my SUV. My mom, however, was not a fan of my vehicle. She said my father used to have one just like that, and it would always reek of alcohol. I guess my father and I had one thing in common and that was what we drove. However, I assure you that mine smelled nothing of alcohol. Just that one time, I went out with friends and one of them spilled some of their drink in the passenger seat. My mom way over reacted. Although, considering what we went through, I don’t completely blame her for getting so angry over drinking. She just kept yelling "I don't want you to be like your father!" Before she locked herself in her room for the night. I could hear her trying to muffle out the sound of her crying with her pillow. Certainly not one of my favorite memories. It sure made me think twice about drinking alcohol. "Good morning Baley!" My mom called to our next door neighbor as he walked out of the house. He smiles brightly and waves. “Good morning Ms. Simmons!” He responds. Baley and I had went to the same school since we moved into this house. Of course, we have graduated now, but we still live with our parents. Both his mom and mine always wanted us to date, but I refused. My mother always thought he was the sweetest boy, but man is she wrong. I could sum up Baley Sempton with one word: player. Not to mention, he is extremely rude at times. But I do have to admit, he is an attractive man. Baley has long eye lashes, dark brown, wavy hair, and a fit body. Back in middle and high school he played various sports, so he was used to staying in shape. The thing about him is, the moment that he opens his mouth, he ruins all of his good looks. My mom and his mom are good friends. We all went on vacation together last year. Baley and I ended up spending a lot of time together while our mothers and siblings did their own thing. He made sure to flirt with me every time we went swimming together. I made sure to inform him each time that we were never going to happen. I would never date Baley Sempton. Mom sent a smile my way and wriggled her eyebrows. In return, I rolled my eyes and hopped into my car. I remember when I first got my car. I was so happy about it, and I still am. I love the fact that I get to listen to music as loud as I want. My mom likes to listen to music loud too, but she would always get phone calls, causing me to have to lower the volume. As soon as I pulled out of the driveway, I turned my music up. To my amusement, the radio plays a song by one of my favorite bands, Pariahs. My friends and I, like many other fans, find them to be quite incredible. When they first came out, I admit, I was not their biggest fan. However, they won me over. Their music moves me, and not a lot of artists can do that. I felt like I could really relate to some of their lyrics. I suppose everyone feels that way about their favorite artists though; that is why they are their favorites. I’m not going to lie, it does help a bit that they are all five very good looking men. Enzo is one of my favorites from the band. There is just something about him that draws me in. He is one of the main singers of the group. Enzo sang a lot of the choruses of their songs. Besides the fact that both of our names start with the letter ‘E’, we also both have naturally curly, dark hair. Lots of people think that they would make a cute couple with their favorite celebrity, but honestly, Enzo and I would make an incredible couple. I sigh, I should really stop thinking like this. I’m only getting my own hopes up. Besides Enzo, I also have another favorite, Dean. Enzo and Dean are close friends, or at least that is how they are portrayed to the public. Dean is always making me laugh, as he does the other band mates. He makes their interviews more lively. I think Dean is one of the most popular of the group because he is so hysterical. Well, I mean that and the fact that he, like the others, is very good looking. He is a brunette with wavy hair. Dean’s voice stands out from the rest, it is different, but still so nice to listen to. Dean is the drummer of the band. The other members of Pariah are Torin, Quinton, and Novak, who is the leader of the group. I have been a fan of their group for years. Mom bought me their first CD back in school. I own every album that they have released, but I had forgotten them in my room today so I could not listen to my CDs now. My thoughts have been quite scattered this morning. I kept singing to the blaring radio, while tapping my fingers on the steering wheel to the beat. Occasionally, I would accidentally hit the horn and apologize to the other people in their vehicles on the road, even though they were unable to hear me. I laughed as the song reached the end. I can admittedly be such an unusual person at times, but I am okay with that. I’m grateful to have a mother, sister, and friends who accept me for who I am. That could be due to the fact that they are a bit bizarre themselves and know that they are in no position to judge. A few songs later, I was pulling into work. I sighed as my car came to a halt in the employee parking lot. I made my way inside and immediately spotted my friends putting on their aprons and clocking in.
