"What's going on, Kyle?"
"Nothing, Mom. We just have a few things to work out. We're fine. I've got to go." He said a quick goodbye and hung up, even though she was still talking. The guilt hit him like a sledgehammer; he hated lying to his mom. He was about to make another call when his cell phone rang. "Meredith. I was just about to call you. I need you to run interference with Mom. I can't go into everything, just keep her away."
"What's going on, Kyle, and don't tell me nothing. Tell me or I'll bring her over."
