The Ghost of Blackridge
Blackridge University was on edge. Again.
By dawn there would be yet again, another building covered in paint.
No one knew where he would strike next and clearly, no one knew how he always escaped.
And most of all, no one, not even the campus security, not the dean, nor the dozens of security cameras scattered across the university had ever managed to catch him.
But the students had. Sort of.
They had always seen a hooded figure in the midst of others whom he led in the vandalism.
A crew known as Ghosts who moved only in the dark hours of the day.
And there he would be, right in their midst where he always stood out with those distinct black gloves while he carried out his rule breaking acts.
They never really get to see his face and even if they had, they knew better than to talk.
Tonight, the target was the Faculty of Science.
Its pristine ivory walls had been repainted less than two weeks ago after the last vandalism incident by the same crew.
Apparently, that had only made it a more tempting canvas for them to design.
In the middle of the night, constant rattles could be heard.
A spray can shook and more rattle followed.
The metallic sound echoed through the cool night air as a crowd of students gathered at a safe distance, phones already raised as they took record of what everyone knew they'd be posting before morning.
"He's actually doing it."
"No way..."
"Roman's insane."
"I heard security doubled patrols tonight."
"Tch. And so? When have they ever caught him?"
A ripple of laughter swept through the crowd.
On the wall not too far off were several figures dressed in black who worked with practiced precision.
Paint bloomed across the concrete in bold streaks of crimson, silver, and electric blue.
At the center of the business stood that one person every lingering student had come to watch.
Roman.
With one hand tucked lazily into his pocket, the other moved the spray can with effortless confidence. It was just as if the wall belonged to him to use as he seemed fit.
It was like the university existed solely for his amusement. A wolf's grin tugged at his lips beneath the shadow of his big black hood while he worked.
"Rom." One of the guys drew close to him while checking his smartwatch. “We have three minutes max."
Roman didn't even look up from what he was focused on but he spoke.
"That's generous." His rich voice penetrated through the working...
Ethan, as usual, was nothing without his neatly pressed shirt and pants. Call him a walking hot stuff who is super organized.
Nora? Well, an oversized tee or sweater over jeans does the trick and her go-to were comfy sneakers.
They stepped out of the room with locked arms and building mates hailed them as they walked to the exit.
No one in Blackridge would say they weren't aware of Noan25. A mix of their name plus the year they started dating which was the current year.
Ethan beeped his car open and Nora tossed her bag in before she got in.
Someone shook Ethan's hand.
“Man! You missed jogging this morning again."
“Yeah. I'm sorry. I can't leave my girl alone."
“Right. Rub it off on us who are single. And oh! Did you hear about last night?"
Ethan's face crumpled. “What happened?"
The guy laughed. “Dude. Your twin did it again. Man! He's a legend."
Ethan chuckled and nodded. “Right. What can we say? Roman is a little too much."
The guy slapped his arm in laughter then bounced inside.
Ethan shook his head and got into the car.
He glanced at Nora.
“Girl, I've been waiting all morning. Ethan sure knows how to steal you from me. Not fair.”
Nora chuckled as they lowered to sit. "I promise I'll make it up to you. Although we're planning to leave campus for the weekend…”
Taylor's face fell.
"..I swear I'll make it up.” Nora quickly assured.
Taylor's face brightened up again and she held her bestie's hands. "Of course I can't stay mad at you. You're my BFF for lifeeee.” She chanted and they giggled.
"Keep it down would ya!” Someone snapped from across the hall and they stuck their tongues out at the person in unison.
Right before they bursted into laughter.
"They would beat us up one day.” Nora sighed.
"They wish.” Taylor brushed her retouched hair with her freshly done nails.
Nora settled on her desk while she brought out her notebook.
“You're waiting for me to ask you to spill on how your date went with hot stuff Mickey?" She asked and faced her best friend who blushed insanely.
“Ugh, I thought you would forget about it."
Nora made faces. “Me? In your dreams girl. Now spill." She faced her and Taylor giggled then cleared her throat.
“Ok. So he tipped the main gate security to give us an hour pass and right after, we literally cruised around the entire city. Who knew he was such a badass behind wheels?"
Her excitement made Nora smile even more then she shrugged.
“It's expected. He's part of the rule breakers." She replied and Taylor made faces.
“Just because he races illegally on campus? Your man does that too –”
"For fun. Not betting or aiming for the top.” Nora chipped in with her defense.
Taylor rolled her eyes and stroked her hair again. "Of course, gurl. Defend your man. Don't forget that his twin also engages in that and you loathe him like gaaaaaa”
Nora frowned deeply. "You can't compare Mickey or Ethan to the insane things Roman does. That guy drives like a mad man during the races. So insane that he nearly killed his own brother.”
"That was a mistake. Plus it was pro level and Ethan got in the wrong race.” Taylor defended.
Nora gave her a hard look. "You know, I'm starting to think you're getting close to Mickey as an excuse to be close to Roman cause why on earth are you always defending his shenanigans?”
Taylor opened her mouth to speak when the professor walked in.
“We will visit this later." Taylor said hushedly. “And ew, why on earth would I want to dance with the devil? No can do." She added and Nora chuckled.
Of course. Her best friend was smarter than that.
They fixed themselves quickly to attend the class with rapt attention.
