In the beginning
“Whatever souls are made of, his and mine are the same” - Emily Brontë
In the days before days, the time before time, there was nihility. Vast emptiness. Collective nothingness. There was only them.
Even they were nothing; nonentities. They did not create nor consume; they did not live nor die. They just were.
They, were the guardians. Their sole purpose was balance, there was no past, present, nor future, there was only balance.
Perfectly aligned and in sync, they were as one and balance and order were maintained.
Until.
‘Two ethereal beings, connected in every way, maintain the balance in perpetuity’ - it had always been that way, they thought. ‘This dense material which houses so much potential, sits there; stagnant. When there could be so much more.’ They continued.
From then on, maintaining this balance became more difficult. The peaceful bliss was gone, the equilibrium was no more.
They named each other, so as to call on one another, to devise how to keep order and find balance again, but this did not come to pass.
No longer one: they began to function independently of one another; to preserve the power inside what they now referred to as ‘The Sphere’ . Ri, set upon releasing themselves from this bind and servitude, of letting chaos reign and becoming a witness and deity to whatever unfolded. Yue, set upon the path they had always been on, keeping the course and working with Ri to correct the imbalance and restore order.
“Our bindings grow weaker and weaker every day, the forces want to escape, they want to be free.” Spoke Ri.
“Hold fast dear one, we have held this power forever, we will not lose control now!” Replied Yue, confident in their conviction.
“Maybe, this is what is supposed to happen, maybe this is what comes next, maybe it is meant to be released? Questioned Ri, this exact situation having occurred on multiple occasions without any avail to brig Yue around to Ri’s point of view. Ri, had long since refused to contain the energy they had an ingrained obligation to keep confined, they refused to maintain this so called balance that facilitated this nothingness. They wanted and needed more.
The closest Ri had come to their goal had allowed Ri to communicate with the energy within The Sphere only once. The sounds of the sphere ceased and instead Ri’s mind was filled with images of an unimaginable expanse of space, entire worlds and an incomprehensible amount of matter and life, and from that moment Ri ceased any form of control over the sphere.
‘It just keeps getting more erratic and uncertain’ Yue thought to them self. ‘No matter how hard Ri and I work, we have never been able to find The Sphere’ true balance again, We work together as one, but somehow, instead of growing calmer, it grows more uneasy. Not long ago, there was a moment where we almost lost control, the humming of the sphere ceased and we almost lost control.’ Yue unaware of Ri’s true intentions.
“Trust in what has always been Ri, balance is all there is” replied Yue, hoping they would find a way to restore the balance soon.
“But it is not all there could be...” Ri said growing more impatient and eager to be released from her once home, now prison.
“ I don’t understand Ri,” said Yue concerned for her counterpart “this is who we are, we maintain the balance.
“It is who YOU are, not me. That hasn’t been me for a long time, there is so much more waiting to occur” shouted Ri. The Sphere began to hum at a higher frequency.
“What do you mean Ri? It is who we are, it is our very existence. Said Yue, channelling more power into holding The Sphere steady.
“That’s just it Yue, we don’t exist.” Ri’s voice grew louder and The Sphere’s him followed suit. “But we can. We can exist, we can live and we can rule. Just as we always have, together, but we can be free, free to watch The Sphere expand and create, and grow, it will create worlds and beings, all under our domain”
Yue couldn’t comprehend what Ri was saying, they were part of each other, they worked in unison for as long as their was, this didn’t make any sense, they had never ruled before, they just were, they kept the balance, nothing more, nothing less. But before Yue could collect their thoughts Ri had accumulated all of their power and concentrated it into a holding force; Yue relaxed knowing that Ri’s power was about to help them maintain this ever growing restlessness inside The Sphere.
Suddenly, there was the glow building at the core of The Sphere and Yue came to many conclusions all at once.
1. Balance was no more.
2. Ri had used their holding power, not on The Sphere, but on Yue.
3. What was now to pass, couldn’t be stopped, but Ri’s plan to control and rule could be hindered.
Yue’s power; diminished by the hold Ri had, began to formulate. This had to be done now, before what was about to happen came to pass. Yue, knew that Ri would try to trap them, so that they couldn’t try to undo what Ri had done. In those last moments before the beginning, Yue separated all of their power and separated it into 3 parts, their current host would keep some of this power but be unrecognisable and more importantly untraceable by Ri. Yue made a vow to find balance once more, maybe it wouldn’t be the balance they once had, but they would find balance again, someday.
And then there was light.
