Chapter 55Charlie heard loud whispers from behind as her Nil teammates noticed she was gone and tried to call her back. She ignored every one of them and kept walking.
All that mattered to her was getting to the shack, where the boy she loved--yes, loved--was being held hostage.
The whispers faded when she reached the front door. Would Nil stay put and watch what happened, or would they take advantage of her distraction and make their own move? She didn't know, and she didn't care.
All she cared about was Nolan.
Raising her fist, she knocked on the splintered gray wood of the door. "It's Charlie. I'm coming in."
