Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1
Rosaline was trying to get her lipstick perfect on her lips when she heard a horn outside her apartment. “Just right there” trying to make sure her blonde hair was well combed and arranged before leaving to meet her client waiting outside her apartment. It’s not what you’re thinking, of course she is not a slutt. She just gets hired to act as a partner or girlfriend. At least it’s better than selling herself.
The bills kept coming after her, and she had nobody to help her because she was all alone in this lonely world. It was the least she could do to help herself earn a living. She was earning from this job and there was no stopping her in any way.
She walked out of her house and entered the car parked right in front of her apartment. Her client who was looking 5 years older than her who was barely 20 years broke the silence.
“You know what you should do right?” as he maintained a game on the road while driving. “Sure, I told you I am experienced in this” giving him a firm stare. “Sorry about that” he immediately apologized. “I...I am Desmond by the way” while trying to summon the courage to continue the conversation.
Rosaline smiled “I always love being formal with my clients” she quickly tried to dismiss the conversation that was about to start. Desmond decided to just focus on getting to the ball and focus on business. Rosaline’s conscience had already started to criticize her for being rude but she quickly dismissed the thoughts.
They both walked into the ball together. Most times Rosaline would hold hands with her client to spice up things and make the setting look real. She grabbed his hand, placing, it across her waist as they both walked together. Desmond looked at her with shock and she whispered with a soft voice “this is part of the job”. They sat together at the ball as they both had a drink.
The arrangement of this contract was to make Desmond’s ex-girlfriend jealous. “May I have this dance with you” offering his hand while bowing to her. She placed her hand on his as they both walked romantically and slowly to the dance floor. “Here she is” he quickly said as he saw his ex-girlfriend approaching the dance scene.
They both danced to their best and soon they were approached by his ex. “Who is she?” looking at Rosaline with disgust. They both ignored her and continued like there was no one talking. “I am asking you” trying to hold Desmond by his hand. “I am his lover” Rosaline quickly interrupted.
“Baby please tell her to leave us” holding herself closer to Desmond. At this point Desmond’s ex became filled with rage and anger. She decided to just walk away and sit close to them.
“Let’s go and have a sit” Rosaline opted, holding Desmond in her hand. They were served steak by the waiter. Desmond took Rosaline’s steak and helped her cut it into bits. This act just helped spice things up a bit.
“Enough of all this love play” pouring a glass of whiskey on Rosaline. Immediately, she stood up and gave her a face. “Hey! stop harassing my woman” Desmond stood with rage in his eyes.
“No baby I’ll handle this, this is just women talk” standing up to return the slap. After slapping her she walked out of the ball as Desmond came chasing her. “Just make the payments as discussed, our work here is done. '' She stopped a taxi and got in without waving goodbye.
All she could think of was getting home and placing an ice on her cheek to avoid getting a scar there. Getting a scar would mean no work for some weeks, and this was not in her list at all.
“He never told me he had a mad rat as an ex,” she said in soliloquy. She kept on regretting why she accepted the job. The taxi stopped in front of her apartment. She made her way to her purse and quickly paid with some cash.
She got down from the taxi as she held her heels in one hand and her dinner dress in the other, walking slowly to her house. “Where’s my card” looking for her key card to open the door. She made her way into her house as she closed the door behind her.
She reached for the refrigerator as she pulled out an ice bag and placed it on her cheek. She took her phone as it beeped. A smile ran through her lips as she saw the money sent to her account. “Who said money is not a good thing?” she smiled as she reached out for a bottle of her favorite soda.
She undressed and put on her nightgown. As she laid on her bed she kept having deep thoughts as to whether she was doing the right thing for herself. She kept on wondering why her life got to this level. All she could say to her weary thoughts were “what choice do I have” placing her hand on her chest.
Besides, she was living a comfortable life and had already cleared most of her bills. At least she was far better than a p********e or stripper in clubs. She consoled herself and slept off.
Covering her face from the morning sun, Rosaline placed her head under her pillow. She always hates mornings because she feels they just come too fast and demand a lot. “Can’t I just get more sleep” , fixing her head firmly under the pillow making sure she avoided the sunlight completely from her face.
She hears a knock at the door and she begins to wonder who it could be. She was not expecting any visitors and that too early in the morning. She ignored for a while but the knock kept coming. With her weary and sleepy face she lazily got up from the bed and made her way to the door. She didn’t believe who she saw.
