Chapter Seventeen

“This is the place.” He said to her as they stood outside the building. “It looks like a normal restaurant to me ,” Rose said to him judging from the activities going on inside. “Don’t focus on the outside. Come with me, and stay closely behind me.” He said to her as they walked into the building. Heading to the counter where the receptionist and other waiters stood, Storm flashed a golden card before them and they nodded their head. “Come with me,” the blonde receptionist said to them. She opened the door for Storm but was about to shut it in Rose’s face, “She’s with me.” Storm said. “She has to be a member,” “I’m Rose Blanc.” Rose said to her furiously. She looked at the list of names on her note pad and looked up at her, “I’m sorry, I can’t find your name here.” Rose began to grow impatient, but Storm stopped her from creating a scene by holding her hand. “Listen to me carefully, who is your manager? Call him. Tell him a Reed and Blanc are here. He’ll tell you the severe consequences of holding us back,” luckily for them, the manager appeared recognizing Storm. “Welcome sir.” “Rose Blanc is with me.” “Blanc?” He asked as if he missed it the first time, looking Rose up and down. “You’re here with a Blanc?” “What is with you all and the exclamation, a Reed and a Blanc can co exist in the same place. I need to go in!” “Your brothers said you’re not allowed here.” “What does it take to get a membership card or whatever?” “Someone who is a member has to vouch for you, and your loyalty. He will be responsible for you if you make a mess, or accused of breaking the rules of the organization.” “Storm will vouch for me,” she said to him. “A Reed with vouch for a Blanc? Interesting, never in a million years did I ever think this day would come.” “Can I go in now?” Rose asked already impatient, “Yes, I’ll send the card to you.” “Be careful of the toes you step on.” Rose warned the blonde girl before walking inside. Walking into the busy room, that it looked like a completely different world on its own. “Everyone here is either a werewolf from different tribes, or affiliated with a werewolf and has sworn the oath of secrecy or they are surrounded by a very high level of power and influence.” “Interesting. But, I can count the ladies here,” “Your brothers meant it when they said it’s not for women. As Luna werewolves or any other kind, it is believed that putting the women on the forefront of battle is not good. In case the men die, there is security in the home that the kids have someone around to protect them.” “They’re sick in their head then because I don’t even have a boyfriend.” “That’s shocking. You seem like the type to be tied to an Alpha werewolf,” “I have floods of requests, but they don’t have what I’m looking for,” “And what are you looking for?” “Someone who has a stand on their own. Someone who is driven to achieve a lot more than they can think and someone who does not believe in the crap that women need to remain at home and sort out the kids and only offer a little amount of support on the battlefield.” “Hardly before I come across women of your kind Rose. No one is so driven to want to get involved in the affairs of their companies, but you, it’s a different kind of drive.” “Competing against you all of my life put me in a very competitive zone. You know, the day my father died,” she said as they picked a table that was in the far corner of the entire room but where they could watch everything. The waiter came around their table, “What would you like to have?” “A glass of your best wine would do.” Rose said to him. “How about you sir?” “I’ll go with what the lady is having. It’s good that we sit here, we can manage the attention we attract towards ourselves as it seems like we draw a lot more than we could ever imagine. And sitting here, you have a wider and clearer view of everything, just thought to explain. Go ahead with your story,” “It’s not a story. It actually happened in real life, my life.” “My apologies ice queen.” “The day my father died, I was meant to be preparing for a competition against you. He didn’t want me to be so driven by competition that I forget to live, unfortunately he died, and took my mother along with him and I lost the will to live.” “Your brothers?” “They love me, no doubt about that, but they hardly take their time to understand me. Most especially Jack. Being of both the same power, the struggle for position and leadership amongst each other is very high and little time is provided to bond as siblings. All we ever do is talk about business, plans, schemes, agendas. Fight over who runs which company, who attends which meetings. I miss the orderliness that father had established. Since they died, my nana only did as much as she knew,” “I don’t even see eye to eye with those fools. They make a whole lot of nuisance and I’m left to clean their mess up for the sake of my brand, my name, my companies.” “I hate them.” “That’s something we can both agree upon.” Just then her phone rang interrupting their discussion. Jack read on the caller ID, she turned off the screen of her phone, ending the call. “Not answering that?” “For all I know , it’s another scheduled argument. I’m not in the right frame of mind to have that back and forth with him.” She said and proceeded to silence her phone. “If I had been told that there would come a time that you and I would be seated before each other having a civilized conversation, and not fighting to bite each other’s head off, I would have blown that person up in a heartbeat.” “They wouldn’t even breathe to finish up their sentence.” “Thank you for having my back out there, and tending to my wounds.” Rose shook her head as she looked around the room, “Don’t thank me. In as much as I have a lineage with the werewolves, I am a human being. And besides, the entire world is aware of the existing hatred between the Reeds and the Blancs. If you had died while on a business trip with me, it would have jeopardized a whole lot. So I like to consider it as saving myself.” “My mother says to always say thank you, even if it the intention was not meant to save me, as long as it helped me in one way or the other I’m obliged to say thank you.” “Your mom sounds like mine. So full of wisdom and motivational speeches that sometimes I want to crawl away.” “I’m suspecting the death of my mother.” “How did she die?” “He brought her back home in a pool of her own blood.” “Who?” “My father.” “How did she die? Do you know?” “No. But she did say something to me,” “What did she say?” “Be careful. The enemy is closer than you think” “That sounds revelational, do you suspect that anyone around you is responsible for her death?” “You mean, you know nothing about it?” “Nobody is really aware about your mother. We don’t know anything about her, hardly has her case ever crossed the lips of anyone in my home. It’s only that of your wicked step mother, and of course we think of ways we could butcher her and feed her to the birds.” “Another thing we can agree upon,” the waiter brought their drinks to them. “And your membership card.” She said handing the golden card to her with her name written boldly on it.” “Why don’t we make a toast, to a successful mission ahead of the both of us, and to us, a Reed and a Blanc agreeing upon something, two things actually, for the first time in their lives.” “Cheers!” She said clinging their glasses together before having a sip of the drink. The door opened and a man in his late sixties walked in, with white beards and a white full hair. He was dressed in black trousers and a t shirt that hugged him so tight, revealing his ever protruding belly. “That did our target.” Storm said as they had their eyes fixed on Alejandro. “A lot of guards and people surround him all of the time so getting him away from them is extremely hard.” Storm explained. “That is his known table.” Watching the man, he sat down on the chair. They watched as some men dragged a man by his collar throwing him to the ground, they exchanged some words, the man on the ground looked like he was pleading for mercy. They watched as Alejandro pulled out the pistol from the waist of his trousers and blew the bullet straight into his brain without any remorse on his face. “Is this legal?” “People of power and higher authority are here. Nobody really has a say.” Storm explained to her. “Frightened already?” “No. Why would I be?” She defended herself. She watched as the men dragged the now lifeless body of the poor man and cleaners cleaned up his blood immediately. “This is just a lot more hostile than I imagined.” “Welcome to the club.”
