I feel my throat closing up and my eyes beginning to burn. This is it. The end of my journey on Earth. Then, one elder I’ve never met before raises his glass. The woman next to him raises hers too. One by one, more goblets are lifted into the air. My heart is racing, accelerating as each vote is cast in my favor. I look over to Robin whose face is beaming with pride. “You were wonderful,” he whispers in my ear, keeping his hand resting on mine as we watch more of the Fae join in supporting me. A smile stretches across my lips, and I feel genuine hope for the first time in a long time.
