The Betrayal

1103 Words
Selene’s POV I climbed over the wall of our room windows to escape, Morgan was behind me, and I was taking the lead. We jumped down from the window and rolled over the small garden at the side of the wall. We need to get to the back of the building, there is a small gate at the corner, but the gate was a risk, it was always guarded, that’s why we have to take the fence which takes us outside of the building into the woods. “Hurry,” I whispered to Morgan, ignoring my bruised knee when I jumped down the wall from our window. “Don’t make too much noise with your feet, or else we will get caught before we get to the fence,” I muttered, and Morgan hummed behind me. “Who is there?” The torchlight, the deep voice of the guard team. “Don’t you dare move!” He shouted when his light caught a glimpse of us. “Run!” I scream at Morgan. We took to our heels running to the fence. “The girls escaped, get them!” There were loud voices behind us, hurried feet, and boots. “They are heading toward the fence, have the guard surround them, now!” “Run!” I yelled, pulling Morgan along with me. We were getting closer to the fence, “You’ve got to help me get up first.” Morgan said. “There’s no stepping stone,” I noticed that as well. “When you get over the fence, give me a helping hand so I can climb faster,” I replied in heavy pants. I squatted so Morgan could climb and get on the fence. “Hurry,” I muttered, the guards were coming, and if we didn't get past the fence any minute, we would get caught. Morgan was able to climb through the fence, and I stretched out my hand for her to help, she gripped my hand and pulled me up through the fence. Halfway through her hand froze. The guards were already surrounding the fence. “Morgan…” My voice croaked and I was barely hanging on. “Come on, pull me up.” “I can’t.” Her eyes went teary. “I’m sorry, Selene.” She said with trembling lips. “No.” “Morgan!” She pushed me hard with both hands, my mouth went ajar, I gasped fighting for air for something to grip onto, but there was nothing. My back crashed to the ground in a loud thud, a tear had escaped my eyes watching Morgan looking down at me, her face softened with sympathy, and for a moment she looked genuinely heartbroken for me, as if my pain had hurt her too. She ran off into the woods, the guards surrounded me and they didn’t bother going after Morgan, she had succeeded in using me as a distraction. “Get her!” I went numb when they held me roughly, binding my hands together, oblivious of what they were doing to me, I never thought Morgan would do that to me, the pain from the fall didn’t hurt, my heart ached more. I trusted her. “It’s you, this little rat.” The director lifted my chin with a finger, “I’m going to teach you never to go against any orders.” He spat on my face. “And the other girls are going to learn never to do anything foolish like what you just did.” “It was a foolish thing to do,” His finger was still on my jawline, tears rolled down from my eyes and dropped on his hand, and with irritation, I felt the slap. Twice. My hair sprawled over my disheveled face, and I tasted blood on my lips. “Don’t try to play innocent when you’re the one who is wrong, what makes you think you have the right to leave?” “Deal with her.” He shoved me aside, and my back again hit the ground, the guards surrounded me, hit me with whatever they could, their hands, their feet, their belts, and a wooden stick. “Don’t damage her face,” The director said, cleaning his hands with water, and wiping them with a towel. “She’s a pretty one,” “I can sell her for a higher price later.” He turned to me, and I already had my arms around my head shielding my face from being stepped upon. “Your beauty is what saved you and I need to make money, fair trade.” He snickered, “Lock her up.” I was dragged for everyone in the orphanage to see, he used me to intimidate the others, my dress was stained with blood and sweat. I saw the matron watching me with that disappointed look on her face, as if she expected this to happen. I was thrown into a prison room with iron bars on it, and no windows. It smelled of urine, cigarettes, and rotten eggs. I spent the night there without closing my eyes, I sobbed the whole time bitterly, I felt lost and didn’t know what to do, and I was at the mercy of the director. This was not what I wanted to happen. “…the girl that escaped last night I heard she reached the border of the Red Moon Pack and she was rescued by the patrolling werewolves.” I heard the voice of the prison wardener, and another guard outside the prison door. I smelled the cigarette they had lit. “She was wearing a ruby pendant.” He kept saying. “So?” The guard didn’t seem quite interested in the conversation but the warden went on as if he was about to say the interesting piece. “She happens to be the Alpha’s long- lost daughter.” “What?” I wiped my swollen eyes and leaned closer to the prison door. “That was my exact reaction when I heard it, now she has been saved, Alpha Marcus and his Luna are throwing a celebration to welcome home their long-lost daughter. They have accepted her as their child, because the ruby pendant she was wearing was from the Alpha himself.” I dropped to my knees, Morgan showed them the pendant that was mine, it belonged to me and not to her. “She will become the Alpha of the Red Moon princess.” The prison wardener whistled, and over a night, Morgan’s life took a turn over a plan that I made.
