Jason

Jason slowly swallowed his drink, thinking about the past. If someone had told him before that he would soon be opening a branch in this part of the continent he would have laughed at their face. He check his watch and note that he still has time for a quick shower so he decided to freshen up. Today Nat has insisted on taking him out to dinner as a welcome package and eventhough he much prefer to take a rest and be by himself, he cannot really disappoint his friend whom he had not seen for more than two years. Maybe they can use the time to catch up on each other's life. He put on jeans and a polo shirt and headed out towards his car just as Nat pulled up in front of the hotel. He decided to look up real estate tomorrow as he always prefer to live in private, out of prying eyes. Maybe Nat will be able to locate a good property as he had been living here for sometime now. He made a mental note to ask him about that. He slowly followed Nat's car and they soon reach their destination. Nat was waiting for him by the main entrance. The place looked quaint and elegant at the same time. Jason looked around appreciatively. He tlited his lips and quickly regain his expression. Nat has always been a man who appreciates the fine things in life even from their chilhood days. Thinking about the past suddenly made his green eyes darker. How he wished he could forget the past. If his mother had not been curious he would have made the biggest mistake of his life. He shook his head and try to clear his thoughts as the waiter came to their table. They soon made their order and were having a drink while waiting. Nat was very cheerful as always and kept on discussing his ideas. Jason find it rather hard to concentrate as his mind kept wandering back to their past. He looked at Nat and mentally shook his head. It looks like Nat also could not tame the filly, he thought. Should he asked or should he pretend as if he don't know anything, like he had been doing for this past three years. He will keep an eye on him, that will have to suffice for now. After all he don't have to lost a friend over a silly waif. He decides to enjoy the dinner instead. If Nat does not seem to have any regret over his action he very well should not have none either. Nat was wandering what Jason was thinking about. He wanted to ask him about his personal life but he wasn't sure if Jason will be feeling the same closeness they had shared for all those past years. Well, they do have a chance to renew their friendship, there will be plenty of time to talk about their little friend, he thought instead. Soon their dinner arrive and they talk shop. It seems it is easier to steer away from personal feelings and discuss other things. After dessert Jason glance around the room while sipping his drink and wondered about the designer of the interior. It was beautiful, the designer must be quiet brilliant he thought. Thinking about that make his mind wander to Laurel, she would have loved this place he thought. The ambience, the decor, the food, everything seems to be to her liking he mused. When he look up, Nat was watching him strangely. "Are you alright?" he asked. Jason gave a small smile and blinked. " Sorry. I may have been more tired than i thought," he mumbled. "I would like to call it a night if you don't mind," he continued. Nat was watching him closely. "Of course. We will have plenty of time to catch up," he said and signal the waiter. Jason looked at his watch, "If we have time, i want to have a look at some real estate tomorrow. I would appreciate if you can point out some locations for me, " he said. "Sure. I can do that if you can tell me what kind of location you want." "Not much in particular. Some where a little remote perhaps." "So, near a lake, not far from the highway, a cabin, a sky scraper or something else." "Some where by the lake would be good, i think. Do you know a place like that." "Yeah. Old man John wants to sell his lake side house. We can have a look tomorrow." "Good. I hate living out of a suitcase." They went home their seperate ways after they exit from the hotel. Nat drives towards his apartment slowly. He often wonder why Jason and Laurel stopped seeing each other. It almost look as if they hate each other, which is a strange thing given their love for each other. They were inseperable in those days. When his father got transferred to another city they had to move. The day before they moved was the last time he had seen Laurel. Even at that time she doesn't want to talk about Jason. She seemed hurt and angry at the same time. After that they have no more communication and he often wondered if they have ever resolve their differences. It appear as if that did not happen. He wished he could help out his friends. He knows how much they love each other. Even if something happened at that time they could still be friends, he thought. Jason undress and took a quick shower. He can't understand why his mind kept wondering tonight. He closed his eyes and take a deep breath. He can still hear his mother's exact words. "Sweetheart, i'm so sorry. But i have to tell you that your friends are cheating you behind your back," she had said. Jason could not believe what he had heard but his mother was looking at him with tears in her eyes. He had never seen her mother like that and it made him angry at anyone who dared to hurt her. His mother hugged him and squeeze his body so hard that he could barely breath. "I know you love her, but you have to forget her. She is not worthy of your love. I could not keep seeing her father at work, knowing his daughter's treachery. I asked your father to fire him," she had sniffed. Jason had stood rigidly, inside his heart was breaking into small pieces. At that moment he made a vow to never trust anyone with his heart ever again. Given his standings in the society he can have a pick of any female company he want, but thats all they will ever be, company for his body. Thinking back about that day, his lips curled back aggressively. If his mother had not been curious, he would be still besotted with a cheater, he thought.
