The Single Dad's Choice
CHAPTER 1 — “The Search Begins”
The Man Who Wanted the Perfect Match to Take Care of His Child
The sound of an alarm echoed loudly inside the large apartment.
Adrian Reyes suddenly opened his eyes and checked the time.
7:45 AM.
His expression immediately darkened.
“I’m late…”
He quickly stood up, fixing his wrinkled shirt while walking toward the kitchen.
The apartment looked beautiful and expensive, yet strangely cold and empty.
In the dining area, Liam Reyes sat quietly with his head lowered.
The breakfast Adrian prepared remained untouched.
“Liam,” Adrian said while grabbing his car keys, “you need to eat.”
The little boy slowly shook his head.
“I’m not hungry.”
Adrian sighed tiredly.
This had become their everyday routine.
Ever since the last nanny quit, everything had become harder.
Work meetings.
School schedules.
Cooking.
Cleaning.
And trying to understand a child who slowly stopped smiling.
Adrian knelt beside his son.
“Dad has an important meeting today.”
Liam looked away quietly.
“You always have meetings.”
Those words hit Adrian harder than he expected.
For a moment, he could not speak.
Then the doorbell rang.
Another nanny had arrived.
A middle-aged woman entered the apartment with a nervous smile.
“Good morning, sir.”
Adrian nodded politely.
“Thank you for coming.”
The woman tried talking to Liam.
“Hello there! I heard you like drawing—”
Liam immediately stood up and walked away without saying anything.
The woman awkwardly laughed.
Minutes later, she approached Adrian quietly.
“I’m sorry, sir… I don’t think I can handle this job.”
And just like that…
Another one left.
The apartment became silent again.
Adrian closed his eyes in frustration.
“How many more times…”
Meanwhile, across the city…
Warm sunlight filled a small community daycare center.
Children laughed happily while painting at tiny tables.
At the center of the room stood Claire Santos.
A little girl nearby suddenly began crying after dropping her crayons.
Claire gently knelt beside her.
“It’s okay,” she said softly with a smile. “We can fix it together.”
The child slowly stopped crying.
Around them, the other children happily gathered near Claire.
One teacher quietly smiled.
“You’re really good with kids.”
Claire laughed shyly.
“I just like making them smile.”
Later that afternoon…
As Adrian walked Liam home from school, the little boy accidentally dropped his favorite toy near the sidewalk.
The toy rolled forward and hit someone’s shoe.
“Oh!”
A young woman picked it up carefully before it touched a puddle.
Claire.
She cleaned the toy gently with a handkerchief before kneeling in front of Liam.
“There you go,” she said warmly.
Liam stared at her silently.
Then for the first time in a very long while…
He smiled.
A small one.
But real.
Adrian froze in surprise.
Claire smiled back at Liam before standing up.
“Take care, okay?”
As she turned around to leave, Adrian suddenly spoke.
“Wait.”
CHAPTER 2 — “The Unexpected Offer”
The morning sunlight spilled through the tall windows of the Reyes residence, but the house still felt quiet… almost empty.
Adrian Reyes stood by the dining table, staring at the untouched breakfast again.
Across from him, Liam Reyes sat silently, holding his small toy car.
Neither of them spoke.
Adrian exhaled slowly.
Yesterday still lingered in his mind—the moment Liam smiled at a stranger for the first time in months.
A stranger named Claire.
Scene 1 — The Memory That Won’t Fade
At work, Adrian couldn’t focus.
Documents were open on his desk, but his thoughts kept drifting back.
That smile.
Small. Quiet. But real.
“Who was she…?” he murmured.
For the first time, Adrian wasn’t thinking like a businessman.
He was thinking like a father who had finally seen hope.
Scene 2 — Searching for Claire
That afternoon, Adrian made a decision.
“Find her,” he told his assistant.
Within hours, he learned her name.
Claire Santos.
A daycare worker. Part-time helper. No special connections. No hidden agenda.
Just… kind.
His assistant hesitated.
“Sir… are you planning to hire her?”
Adrian paused.
“I don’t know yet.”
But deep down, something was already changing.
Scene 3 — The Meeting Request
Later that day, Claire received a message.
A formal invitation.
“We would like to speak with you regarding a childcare position.”
She blinked in surprise.
“Me?”
She wasn’t looking for anything like that.
But something about the message felt serious… and strange.
Still, she agreed.
Scene 4 — First Real Encounter
A private café in the city.
Claire arrived nervously, looking around.
Then she saw him.
A tall man in a dark suit.
Cold expression.
Sharp eyes.
Adrian Reyes.
Claire straightened.
“Good afternoon… I’m Claire Santos.”
Adrian studied her quietly.
This was the woman.
The one Liam smiled at.
After a long pause, he finally spoke.
“My son… smiled when he met you.”
Claire blinked.
“Oh… really?”
Adrian’s expression tightened slightly.
“I need someone who can take care of him.”
Claire tilted her head.
“I’m not a professional nanny.”
“I know,” Adrian replied.
Another silence.
Then—
“I’ll pay you double whatever you earn now.”
Claire froze.
The offer was too direct.
Too business-like.
She frowned slightly.
“I don’t think taking care of a child should start with money.”
That answer surprised him.
For the first time in a long time… someone didn’t immediately agree to him.
Scene 5 — The Turning Point
Claire stood up slowly.
“If your son is lonely… then what he needs isn’t just a caregiver.”
She looked at Adrian directly.
“He needs someone he trusts.”
That sentence hit harder than expected.
Adrian didn’t respond.
Claire bowed politely.
“Excuse me.”
And she left.
Final Scene — A New Feeling
Adrian stayed seated long after she was gone.
Something unfamiliar settled in his chest.
Not frustration.
Not control.
Something closer to curiosity… and discomfort.
Because for the first time—
Someone didn’t say yes to him.
And Liam still had that same smile in his memory.
CHAPTER 3 — “The One He Didn’t Expect”
The city was already awake, loud and fast, but inside the Reyes home, everything still felt quiet.
Adrian Reyes stood near the window, staring outside without really seeing anything.
He hadn’t stopped thinking about her.
Claire Santos
Her words kept repeating in his mind:
“He needs someone he trusts.”
Adrian frowned slightly.
For someone who was used to people agreeing with him… her rejection stayed longer than it should have.
Scene 1 — Liam’s Small Change
In the living room, Liam Reyes was quietly drawing.
But this time… something was different.
Instead of blank pages or sad sketches, he drew a small park.
And a woman smiling beside him.
Adrian noticed it immediately.
“Liam… who is that?”
Liam hesitated.
“…the nice lady.”
Adrian’s expression softened for a moment.
So it wasn’t just a one-time thing.
Scene 2 — Claire’s Simple Life
Across the city, Claire was back at her daycare job.
Children surrounded her as usual—laughing, pulling her sleeves, asking for help.
She smiled naturally, helping each one patiently.
A coworker leaned closer.
“You turned down a rich guy’s offer?”
Claire blinked.
“Oh… that.”
She continued tying a child’s shoelace.
“It didn’t feel right.”
Her coworker laughed.
“You’re really strange, you know that?”
Claire just smiled.
“Maybe.”
But deep down, she wasn’t thinking about money.
She was thinking about the lonely boy she met.
And his quiet father.
Scene 3 — Unexpected Return
That afternoon, Claire was walking home when a black car stopped beside her.
The window rolled down slowly.
It was him.
Adrian Reyes.
Claire froze slightly.
“…Yes?”
Adrian looked at her calmly.
“I want to talk again.”
Claire blinked.
“I already said—”
“I know,” he interrupted.
A pause.
Then he added quietly:
“I want to understand what you meant.”
That surprised her.
He didn’t come to offer money this time.
He came… to listen.
Scene 4 — The Real Conversation
They sat at a quiet bench near a park.
For a while, neither of them spoke.
Then Adrian finally said:
“My son doesn’t talk much anymore.”
Claire listened silently.
“He doesn’t eat properly… he doesn’t smile at strangers… and every caregiver leaves.”
His hands tightened slightly.
“I thought hiring the right person would fix it.”
He paused.
“…But maybe I was wrong.”
Claire looked at him softly.
“That’s not something a person alone can fix.”
Adrian glanced at her.
Claire continued:
“He’s not broken. He’s just lonely.”
Those words hit differently.
Not harsh.
Just true.
Scene 5 — A New Decision
A light breeze passed through the park.
Adrian spoke again.
“…Then what should I do?”
Claire thought for a moment.
Then she said:
“Don’t look for someone perfect.”
“Look for someone he feels safe with.”
Silence.
Adrian slowly looked at her.
For the first time… he wasn’t thinking like a CEO.
He was thinking like a father who didn’t know what to do next.
Final Scene — The Beginning of Something Real
That night, Adrian returned home earlier than usual.
Liam looked up in surprise.
“You’re home early…”
Adrian paused.
Then he slowly sat down beside him.
“I met her again today.”
Liam’s eyes widened slightly.
“…the nice lady?”
Adrian nodded.
For a moment, Liam hugged his drawing closer.
And quietly said:
“…Can she come again?”
Adrian didn’t answer immediately.
But inside him… something had already started changing.
CHAPTER 4 — “Closer Than Before”
Rain softly fell outside the large apartment windows as Adrian Reyes worked quietly in the living room.
But tonight felt different.
For the first time in months…
Liam Reyes was not sitting alone in silence.
Instead, he sat on the floor drawing happily.
And every few minutes, Adrian noticed the same name written on the page.
Claire.
Scene 1 — Liam’s Wish
“Dad.”
Adrian looked up from his laptop.
Liam hesitated before speaking softly.
“…Can the nice lady visit again?”
The question caught him off guard.
Adrian slowly closed his laptop.
“You really like her?”
Liam nodded immediately.
“She listens.”
That simple answer made Adrian pause.
Listens.
Something he realized he hadn’t truly done in a long time.
Scene 2 — An Unexpected Visit
The next afternoon, Adrian stood outside the daycare center where Claire Santos worked.
Children ran around laughing while Claire helped clean paint from a little boy’s hands.
She looked gentle.
Comfortable.
Warm.
Completely different from the cold corporate world Adrian lived in.
Claire noticed him standing nearby and blinked in surprise.
“Mr. Reyes?”
Adrian cleared his throat awkwardly.
“I came to ask something.”
Claire tilted her head.
“What is it?”
A brief silence passed before Adrian finally spoke.
“…Would you have dinner with us tonight?”
Claire froze slightly.
“With you and Liam?”
Adrian nodded.
“He asked for you.”
Claire’s expression softened instantly.
Scene 3 — Dinner Together
That evening, the Reyes apartment felt strangely alive.
Liam happily showed Claire his drawings while she praised every single one seriously.
“This one is amazing.”
“It’s just a car,” Liam mumbled shyly.
Claire smiled.
“Then it’s the coolest car I’ve seen today.”
Liam laughed quietly.
Adrian watched from the kitchen in silence.
The sound of Liam laughing filled the apartment naturally…
As if it belonged there.
And somehow—
So did Claire.
Scene 4 — Small Warm Moments
During dinner, Claire noticed Adrian barely eating.
“You should rest more,” she said.
Adrian looked at her.
“I’m used to this.”
Claire frowned slightly.
“That doesn’t mean it’s healthy.”
No one had spoken to him like that in years.
Not as a businessman.
Not as someone important.
Just… as a person.
For a moment, Adrian didn’t know how to respond.
Scene 5 — The Quiet Realization
Later that night, Claire prepared to leave.
Liam held her sleeve gently.
“…Will you come back?”
Claire looked surprised before smiling warmly.
“If your dad allows it.”
Both of them turned toward Adrian.
For a second, he simply stared at them.
Then he quietly answered:
“…You’re welcome here anytime.”
Liam’s eyes immediately brightened.
And Claire smiled softly.
But Adrian suddenly realized something dangerous.
The quiet apartment that once felt normal…
Now felt empty whenever she walked away.
Final Scene — A New Feeling Begins
As Claire disappeared into the elevator, Adrian stood silently in the hallway.
His chest felt strangely heavy.
Not stressful.
Not painful.
Just unfamiliar.
Then Liam tugged his sleeve.
“Dad.”
Adrian looked down.
Liam smiled softly.
“You smiled too.”
Adrian froze.
Because he hadn’t even realized it himself.
CHAPTER 5 — “The Woman From His Past”
The following week passed more peacefully than usual inside the Reyes home.
For the first time in years, laughter could be heard inside the apartment.
Small laughter.
Soft laughter.
But enough to slowly change everything.
Claire Santos had begun visiting more often, helping Liam Reyes after school and spending quiet evenings with him.
And somehow…
Adrian Reyes started coming home earlier without even noticing it himself.
Scene 1 — A Different Home
“Miss Claire!”
Liam ran toward Claire the moment she entered the apartment.
Claire laughed softly as he hugged her waist.
“Someone seems excited today.”
“I got a star in school,” Liam said proudly.
Claire gasped dramatically.
“That’s amazing!”
Nearby, Adrian quietly watched them while loosening his tie.
The apartment no longer felt cold.
And that scared him more than he expected.
Because he was beginning to get used to her presence.
Scene 2 — Unexpected News
The next morning, Adrian arrived at work as usual.
But his assistant looked nervous.
“Sir… there’s someone waiting in your office.”
Adrian frowned slightly.
“Who?”
Before the assistant could answer, the office door opened.
A beautiful woman stepped out gracefully.
Elegant dress.
Sharp eyes.
Confident smile.
Sophia Laurent.
Adrian froze immediately.
“…Sophia.”
She smiled calmly.
“It’s been a while.”
Scene 3 — Claire Hears Something
Later that afternoon, Claire waited outside Liam’s school.
Other parents nearby whispered quietly.
“Did you hear? Adrian Reyes’ former fiancée returned.”
“They said she came back from overseas.”
Claire blinked slightly.
Former fiancée?
For some reason…
Her chest suddenly felt uncomfortable.
She quickly looked away.
Why should that matter to her?
Scene 4 — Old Feelings, New Confusion
Back at the office, Sophia sat across from Adrian confidently.
“You look tired,” she said casually.
“I’m working.”
“You always were.”
Adrian’s expression hardened slightly.
“What do you want?”
Sophia leaned back.
“I heard about your son.”
A pause.
“And I heard there’s a woman staying close to your family now.”
Adrian immediately looked colder.
“That’s none of your concern.”
Sophia smiled faintly.
Interesting.
So the rumors were true.
Scene 5 — The Growing Distance
That evening, Claire arrived at the apartment quieter than usual.
Liam noticed immediately.
“Miss Claire… are you sad?”
Claire forced a smile.
“No, sweetheart.”
But Adrian noticed too.
When their eyes met briefly, something felt different.
Awkward.
Uncertain.
Then Adrian suddenly spoke.
“…Someone from my past returned today.”
Claire froze slightly.
She tried to stay calm.
“Oh.”
Only one word.
But Adrian somehow noticed the disappointment hidden inside it.
Final Scene — A Dangerous Beginning
Later that night, Claire stood alone outside the apartment building waiting for the elevator.
Her thoughts felt strangely messy.
Why did hearing about Adrian’s past bother her so much?
Meanwhile, upstairs, Adrian stood near the window silently.
For the first time in years…
The past he buried had returned.
And now, the peaceful life he had slowly started building with Claire and Liam might begin to fall apart.
CHAPTER 6 — “Jealousy”
Rain poured heavily across the city that night.
Inside the Reyes apartment, silence filled the living room.
Adrian Reyes stood near the window, his expression unreadable as memories from the past returned one after another.
Meanwhile, Claire Santos quietly helped Liam Reyes organize his school things at the table.
Everything felt normal on the outside.
But underneath—
Something had changed.
Scene 1 — An Uncomfortable Feeling
“Miss Claire,” Liam whispered softly, “are you angry at Dad?”
Claire blinked immediately.
“What? No.”
Liam tilted his head.
“Then why are you quiet today?”
Claire forced a small smile.
Children really noticed everything.
“I’m just tired.”
But even she knew that wasn’t the real reason.
Her thoughts kept returning to the same woman.
Sophia.
Beautiful.
Elegant.
Someone who clearly belonged in Adrian’s world.
Unlike her.
Scene 2 — The Name That Stays
After putting Liam to bed, Claire prepared to leave.
But before she could reach the door—
“Claire.”
Adrian’s voice stopped her.
She slowly turned around.
Adrian hesitated before speaking.
“…You’ve been avoiding me.”
Claire looked away slightly.
“You’re imagining things.”
“Am I?”
The room suddenly felt smaller.
Claire tightened her grip on her bag.
“I just think… your former fiancée probably deserves your attention more than I do.”
The moment those words left her mouth—
Silence.
Adrian stared at her carefully.
And then he realized something surprising.
She was jealous.
Scene 3 — A Dangerous Realization
Claire immediately looked embarrassed.
“I shouldn’t have said that.”
She quickly tried to leave, but Adrian gently held her wrist.
Not forcefully.
Just enough to stop her.
“Claire.”
Her heartbeat instantly became uneven.
Adrian’s voice softened.
“Sophia is part of my past.”
Claire slowly looked up at him.
“And you?”
The question escaped before she could stop herself.
Adrian froze slightly.
Because for the first time…
He didn’t know how to answer.
Scene 4 — Sophia Makes Her Move
The next day, Sophia arrived unexpectedly at Adrian’s company again.
This time, she smiled confidently.
“Have dinner with me.”
Adrian immediately refused.
“I’m busy.”
Sophia crossed her arms.
“Busy with work? Or with the nanny?”
His expression instantly turned cold.
“She’s not just a nanny.”
The words came out naturally.
Even Adrian looked surprised by his own response.
Sophia noticed immediately.
And for the first time—
Her confident smile weakened slightly.
Scene 5 — Claire Pulls Away
Meanwhile, Claire decided to visit less often.
She convinced herself it was the right thing to do.
After all…
What place did she truly have in their lives?
But Liam noticed immediately.
“You’re leaving early again?”
Claire smiled sadly.
“I’ve been busy lately.”
Liam lowered his head quietly.
“…Did Dad do something wrong?”
Claire’s heart tightened.
“No.”
Then softly, almost painfully—
“Your dad is a good person.”
Final Scene — The Truth He Can’t Ignore
That night, Adrian returned home earlier than usual.
But the apartment felt empty again.
No laughter.
No warm voice.
No Claire.
Liam quietly sat on the couch hugging his toy.
“Miss Claire left already.”
Adrian slowly looked around the silent room.
And suddenly—
He understood something terrifying.
Claire was no longer just someone helping his son.
She had become someone important to him too.
Someone he didn’t want to lose.
CHAPTER 7 — “Stay”
The Reyes apartment felt colder than usual.
Not because of the weather.
But because someone was missing.
Adrian Reyes loosened his tie tiredly as he stepped inside, only to find silence waiting for him again.
No soft laughter.
No warm voice in the kitchen.
No Claire.
Across the living room, Liam Reyes quietly hugged his pillow.
“Dad…”
Adrian looked at him.
“Miss Claire didn’t come today either.”
The disappointment in Liam’s voice made Adrian’s chest tighten painfully.
Scene 1 — Avoiding Feelings
Meanwhile, Claire Santos sat alone at a small café after work.
She stared absentmindedly at her untouched drink.
Her thoughts were a mess.
Every time she told herself to step away from Adrian and Liam…
Her heart hurt even more.
A coworker noticed immediately.
“You miss them, don’t you?”
Claire blinked.
“I—”
“You talk about Liam all the time now.”
Claire lowered her eyes quietly.
Maybe she had gotten too attached.
And maybe that was dangerous.
Scene 2 — Liam Gets Sick
That night, Liam suddenly developed a fever.
Adrian immediately became worried.
“Liam?”
The little boy looked pale and weak beneath the blanket.
“I don’t feel good…”
Adrian tried everything—medicine, cold towels, comforting words—but Liam only whispered one thing repeatedly.
“…Miss Claire…”
Hearing that name again made Adrian pause.
Then without hesitating further—
He grabbed his car keys.
Scene 3 — The Unexpected Visit
Late at night, Claire heard urgent knocking at her apartment door.
When she opened it—
She froze.
Adrian stood there carrying Liam in his arms.
Rain soaked his coat.
His usually calm expression looked shaken.
“Claire,” he said quietly, “he keeps asking for you.”
Claire’s heart immediately softened.
Without another word, she stepped aside.
“Come in quickly.”
Scene 4 — The Warmth She Brings
Claire gently sat beside Liam, brushing his hair softly.
“I’m here now.”
Almost instantly, Liam relaxed.
His small fingers held onto her sleeve tightly as if afraid she would disappear again.
Adrian watched silently from nearby.
And once again—
Claire brought warmth into a situation he couldn’t handle alone.
After Liam finally fell asleep, the apartment became quiet again.
Rain tapped softly against the windows.
Scene 5 — The Honest Moment
Claire stood carefully, preparing to leave the room.
But Adrian suddenly spoke.
“…Don’t go.”
She froze.
His voice sounded low and sincere.
Not commanding.
Not cold.
Just honest.
Claire slowly turned toward him.
Adrian looked exhausted.
Vulnerable.
Completely unlike the powerful man everyone feared at work.
“When you stopped visiting…” he admitted quietly, “…this place felt empty again.”
Claire’s heartbeat became uneven.
Adrian lowered his eyes briefly before speaking again.
“And Liam wasn’t the only one who noticed.”
Silence filled the room.
Heavy.
Emotional.
Dangerously soft.
Final Scene — A Heart Beginning to Open
Claire stared at him speechlessly.
Because deep inside…
She understood exactly what he meant.
For the first time, neither of them could keep pretending anymore.
The distance between them had already begun disappearing.
And somewhere between loneliness, healing, and quiet nights together—
Love was slowly beginning to grow.
CHAPTER 8 — “The Place Beside Them”
Morning sunlight slowly entered the Reyes apartment.
For the first time in days, the atmosphere felt peaceful again.
On the couch, Liam Reyes slept comfortably beneath a blanket while Claire Santos carefully checked his temperature once more.
“No fever,” she whispered with relief.
Nearby, Adrian Reyes quietly watched her.
And once again, he realized something dangerous.
Claire fit into their lives too naturally.
As if she had always belonged there.
Scene 1 — Morning Together
Liam slowly opened his eyes.
The moment he saw Claire beside him, he smiled weakly.
“You stayed…”
Claire gently brushed his hair back.
“Of course.”
Liam looked genuinely happy.
Adrian stood silently near the doorway watching them.
A strange warmth settled in his chest.
This scene—
It felt like family.
And that thought both comforted and frightened him.
Scene 2 — Sophia Notices
Later that afternoon, Sophia unexpectedly arrived at Adrian’s office again.
But this time, she immediately noticed something different.
Adrian looked calmer.
Softer.
Distracted.
Sophia narrowed her eyes slightly.
“You’ve changed.”
Adrian continued reading documents.
“I’m busy.”
Sophia leaned forward.
“You’re in love with her, aren’t you?”
For the first time—
Adrian stopped moving completely.
Silence filled the office.
Sophia laughed bitterly.
“So it’s true.”
Adrian slowly looked at her.
And quietly answered:
“…I don’t know.”
But deep down—
He already did.
Scene 3 — Claire’s Fear
That evening, Claire prepared dinner while Liam happily sat beside her drawing pictures.
But inside, her thoughts remained troubled.
She cared about them far more than she should.
Especially Adrian.
And that terrified her.
Because the closer she became to them…
The more painful losing them would be.
Scene 4 — The Drawing
“Miss Claire!”
Liam suddenly held up his drawing proudly.
Claire smiled.
“What did you make?”
It was a picture of three people holding hands.
A tall man.
A smiling woman.
And a little boy in the middle.
Claire’s smile slowly faded in surprise.
Liam pointed happily.
“That’s us.”
Her heart skipped painfully.
At that exact moment, Adrian walked into the room and saw the drawing too.
Silence.
No one spoke for several seconds.
Then Liam asked innocently:
“Doesn’t it look like a real family?”
Claire immediately lowered her eyes.
But Adrian couldn’t stop staring at the picture.
Because somewhere deep inside—
He wanted it to be true too.
Scene 5 — The Almost Confession
Later that night, Claire stood outside the apartment elevator preparing to leave again.
Adrian followed her quietly.
“Claire.”
She turned slowly.
For a moment, neither spoke.
Then Adrian stepped slightly closer.
“When Liam is with you… he smiles.”
Claire’s heartbeat quickened.
Adrian continued softly:
“And when you’re here…”
His voice lowered.
“…I feel like I can finally breathe again.”
Claire froze completely.
The distance between them suddenly felt dangerously small.
Too close.
Too emotional.
Too real.
Final Scene — Interrupted Feelings
Just as Adrian slowly reached toward her—
A voice suddenly interrupted.
“Adrian?”
Both of them turned immediately.
Sophia stood at the hallway entrance.
Her expression darkened the moment she saw how close they were.
And Claire instantly stepped back.
The fragile moment shattered completely.
CHAPTER 9 — “The Truth in Her Eyes”
The hallway suddenly became tense.
Sophia Laurent stood frozen near the elevator, her sharp eyes moving between Adrian Reyes and Claire Santos.
Claire immediately stepped back.
The warm moment from seconds ago disappeared completely.
Sophia forced a small smile.
“…Am I interrupting something?”
Adrian’s expression instantly hardened.
“What are you doing here?”
Sophia crossed her arms.
“You stopped answering my calls.”
Claire lowered her eyes awkwardly.
“I should go.”
But before she could leave, Liam’s apartment door suddenly opened.
“Miss Claire?”
The little boy rubbed his sleepy eyes before noticing Sophia nearby.
His small smile disappeared immediately.
Scene 1 — An Uncomfortable Introduction
Sophia looked at Liam carefully.
“So this is your son.”
Liam quietly moved closer to Claire instead of responding.
That small action did not go unnoticed.
Sophia’s smile weakened slightly.
Claire gently placed a hand on Liam’s shoulder protectively.
Adrian noticed everything.
And for some reason…
Seeing Liam instinctively choose Claire over Sophia stirred something deep inside him.
Scene 2 — Old Wounds Return
Sophia finally looked directly at Adrian.
“We need to talk.”
Adrian’s voice turned cold.
“Not tonight.”
Sophia frowned.
“You’re avoiding me.”
“And you came without permission.”
Silence.
Claire could feel the tension growing heavier by the second.
She softly whispered to Liam:
“Come on, let’s get you back inside.”
Liam nodded quietly, still holding her hand tightly.
As Adrian watched them walk away together—
He suddenly realized something painful.
That scene felt natural.
Comforting.
Like they belonged together.
Scene 3 — Sophia’s Question
Once Claire and Liam disappeared inside the apartment, Sophia’s calm expression finally cracked slightly.
“You really care about her.”
Adrian looked away briefly.
“That’s none of your business.”
Sophia laughed bitterly.
“You never looked at me the way you look at her.”
That sentence made Adrian pause.
Because part of him knew she was right.
Sophia stepped closer.
“Do you even realize what’s happening to you?”
Adrian stayed silent.
But silence itself became the answer.
Scene 4 — Claire Overhears
Inside the apartment, Claire quietly helped Liam back to bed.
But as she walked toward the kitchen afterward, she accidentally overheard part of the conversation through the slightly open door.
Sophia’s voice echoed softly:
“You’re falling in love with her.”
Claire froze completely.
Her heartbeat instantly became loud inside her chest.
Outside, Adrian answered quietly—
“…Maybe I already did.”
Claire covered her mouth slightly in shock.
For a moment, the entire world seemed to stop.
Scene 5 — Feelings Become Real
Claire quickly stepped away before anyone noticed her listening.
Her heart felt completely out of control.
Adrian…
Loved her?
The thought alone terrified her.
Because deep inside—
She knew her own feelings had already grown far beyond simple attachment too.
Meanwhile, outside the apartment, Sophia finally looked defeated.
She gave Adrian one last painful smile. .........
To be continued
