Chapter 5: The Rift

Days turned into weeks, and Hiroya’s visits became less frequent. Cennet felt the distance between them grow, each passing moment like a heavy weight on her heart. She spent her evenings writing songs, pouring her emotions into melodies, using music as her solace. One day, as she played a gentle tune on her piano, she found herself lost in memories of Hiroya—the laughter they shared, the stories they told. But with each note, sadness seeped in, weaving through the chords like a dark thread. “Why is he pulling away?” she whispered to herself, her fingers hesitating above the keys. “Does he really think I’m a burden?” The thought gnawed at her, churning her stomach. As the melody drifted into the room, she closed her eyes, picturing his smile. “You’re a blessing,” he had said. But now, that reassurance felt like a distant echo. Suddenly, the door creaked open. Startled, Cennet turned her head toward the sound, a mixture of hope and apprehension flooding her. “Hiroya?” “Hey,” he said softly, stepping inside. His voice was laced with a familiar warmth, yet tinged with something she couldn’t quite place. “Where have you been?” Cennet asked, her voice trembling. “I’ve missed you.” “I’ve been… busy,” he replied, running a hand through his hair. “The media, my schedule… it’s all been a bit overwhelming.” Cennet’s heart sank. “Overwhelming enough to stop coming to see me?” He stepped closer, but the space between them felt larger than ever. “It’s not like that, I swear. I just needed some time to think.” “Think about what?” she pressed, a mix of frustration and hurt bubbling to the surface. “About us? About me?” Hiroya paused, his gaze dropping to the floor. “It’s complicated, Cennet. I don’t want to hurt you. The rumors… they’re relentless. It’s exhausting.” “Exhausting?” Cennet echoed, her voice rising. “What about my exhaustion? I feel like I’m losing you. I thought we were in this together. I thought we were stronger than what people say! “I thought so too,” he said, his voice cracking. “But every time I see those headlines, every time someone questions your worth because of me, it makes me doubt everything.” “Doubt what?” she challenged, her heart racing. “Doubt that we can make it? Or doubt that I’m worth fighting for?” Hiroya stepped closer, the distance shrinking slightly. “Cennet, you’re worth everything to me. I just… I don’t want to put you through pain because of my choices.” She took a deep breath, her fingers hovering over the piano keys. “You think being apart is easier? Because it feels like I’m losing a part of myself without you here.” His eyes softened. “I know. I can feel it too. But I thought that maybe if I distanced myself, it would protect you from the chaos.” Cennet shook her head, tears threatening to spill. “Protect me from what? From love? Love is messy. It’s complicated. But it’s real, and I refuse to hide from it.” “Cennet…” he began, but she cut him off. “Do you remember what you said? That we’d face the world together?” Her voice cracked. “I need you to stand by me now. Not just when it’s easy.” He stepped back, his hands clenched at his sides. “I want to, but I’m scared. Scared of what they’ll say, scared of dragging you into the storm.” “And what if the storm is where we find our strength?” Cennet said, her voice steadier now. “What if we can change the narrative, just like we talked about before?” He swallowed hard, his expression wavering. “I want to believe that, but it feels like I’m letting you down.” “You’re not letting me down,” she insisted, her heart pounding in her chest. “You’re human. We both are. We’re allowed to feel scared. But we can’t let fear dictate our love.” The silence between them hung heavy, charged with unspoken fears and desires. Cennet returned to the piano, her fingers dancing over the keys, playing the melody that had come to mean so much to her. “Listen,” she said, her voice softening as the music enveloped them. “This song… it’s for us. It’s about the light and the dark, about facing the challenges together.” Hiroya watched her, a mix of admiration and sadness in his eyes. “It’s beautiful, Cennet. Just like you.” “Don’t you see?” she continued, her voice rising above the notes. “This music is my way of fighting back against the noise. Just like we can. We can’t let them drown us out.” He stepped closer again, his heart aching with longing. “I want to fight with you. I really do. But can we promise each other that we’ll face whatever comes next together?” “Yes,” Cennet said, her heart racing with hope. “Together. Always.” The tension eased as Hiroya moved closer, finally sitting beside her at the piano. Their shoulders brushed, a simple contact that sent warmth through her. “Then let’s make a promise,” he said, his voice low and earnest. “To be honest, to share our fears, and to always come back to this—us.” “Always,” she echoed, smiling through her tears. As they played together, a new melody formed, intertwining their hearts and hopes. In that moment, Cennet felt the distance shrink. Their connection was fragile yet resilient, a beautiful testament to their love amidst the chaos. Together, they began to forge a path forward, ready to face the world as one, no matter the challenges that lay ahead.
