Chapter One
CRYSTAL
"Do I...have to do this?" I asked my dad, whose arm was entwined with mine.
"Of course. Our family's company depends on this. You have no choice, so put a smile on your face, and let's go in." He replied in a rather harsh tone, and I sighed, nodding my head. I guess I have to do this.
Today, I am getting married to the heir of the richest Conglomerate in the country, Javier, the man whom I don't even know anything about. My parents forced me into this, and I have no choice. I have to do this to save our company.
Just some weeks ago, Dad made a wrong investment which the company had to pay for. It is currently on the verge of going bankrupt, and the only way to stop it from happening is to get married.
The door to the church opened, and we walked in gently. All the guests present stood up immediately, their eyes on me as we walked down the aisle, with my wedding gown dragging at me.
I could say I was very uncomfortable in it because the bodice of the dress was so tight that I could barely breathe while the skirt flowed down from my waistline to the floor. Not only was it excessively long, it was also so bulky that I found it hard to walk in it.
I wanted to curse at the person who chose the dress, but I didn't, it was obviously my mum. She did not only choose the dress, she also made the makeup artist apply a lot of makeup on my face. Though I looked really beautiful when I checked the mirror, I still preferred the no-makeup or light makeup look.
Sighing out, my eyes settled on Javier who was standing by the altar, his face void of an expression.
Seconds felt like minutes, and we finally got to the altar. My father released me before walking away. Without sparing me a glance, Javier turned to the priest. I swallowed nothing before doing the same.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are all gathered here today to witness...." the priest began, but I wasn't even listening. I just wanted all this to end.
Finally, it was time to exchange the rings. We both turned to each other, and he picked one of the two rings that was on the steel plate.
"Your hand." He muttered, and I took a deep breath before slowly pointing my left hand at him. He inserted the ring into my ring finger and I did the same.
" You are now officially husband and wife. You may now kiss..."
"I would pass." Javier cut the priest off, which caused gasps and inaudible whispers around the hall.
They seemed shocked, but I was relieved. I didn't want to kiss him either. We left the altar and my parents, together with Grandfather Jo, came to us.
"Congratulations you two!" my mum said cheerfully, and I released a small smile.
"You guys look great together. I am glad he got married to you and not some other girl." Grandfather Jo smiled.
"Thank you." I muttered.
"You made the right choice. My daughter is surely the best for your grandson." My dad said, and they all chuckled except Javier, though. He had a kind of expression on his face which was hard to read, but he was surely not interested in what they were talking about, same as me.
My father kept talking and praising me, obviously for his own benefit.
"She is the best, and I'm so proud of her." I almost rolled my eyes when he said this, but I controlled myself and maintained the smile on my face. I was still doing that when I heard someone call my name, so I turned around to see, a lady...I know her, but I don't seem to remember her name. She is a distant cousin, but I have never really gotten along with her.
"Do you remember me, Elisa?" Oh yes, that's her name. I said nothing and only nodded my head.
"Congratulations on your wedding." She said with a smile.
"Thank you." I forced out a smile.
"You are welcome. But, I didn't expect you to get married so early. I mean, you are just twenty." She said, and I rolled my eyes, I knew it. She was surely here for something, but I'm not bothered.
Putting on a broad smile, I shrugged. "I know, right? I got married early but at least, I am doing something better with my life."
"What do you mean by that?" She frowned.
"Nothing, just saying." I shrugged, and she scoffed before walking away. I rolled my eyes.
"I will be right back.” Javier excused himself before walking away.
"Follow him." My mum whispered, and I faced her, "Why?" I asked.
"What do you mean why? You shouldn't be away from him. You are his wife, so go on." She replied.
"I'm not interested." I mumbled, shaking my head.
"Come on, follow him." She urged, and I sighed. I really don't want to do this.
"Fine." Mumbling, I walked away, going after him silently.
I watched as he entered the female restroom, and I stopped walking. Why did he enter the females' restroom?
I stood there, wondering why, until I began hearing low moans, and my brows furrowed. Going closer to the restroom, a gasp left my lips at the sight of Javier kissing another lady. They pulled out of the kiss and my eyes widened when I saw my best friend, Riley.
What is she doing with him?
"I missed you." I heard her say, and I watched as he smiled before kissing her again.
What the hell is this? Riley knows him? How can my so-called husband be kissing another lady, my best friend, and on his wedding day?
A minute passed, and they were still making out, but I could not watch them any longer, so I turned around and walked away.
