Chapter 20Sean gasped and lunged forward, twisting his body and rolling on his side over the small boulders. He dropped down behind them, flattening himself as best he could. His mouth gaped open from the pain the move brought to his bleeding shoulder. Over his heartbeat, he could hear rocks and earth from his wake still tumbling down the hillside. He held his rifle flat against his chest, laying perfectly still. He prayed he hadn’t been seen from the vehicle. If he’d made it higher than the view through its windshield, there was hope. Still, Montoya and Hector knew he’d gone up, and that he couldn’t have gotten so high that he was out of reach. Tasting dirt in his mouth, Sean carefully turned his head uphill.
